We enjoyed watching sturbridge traffic thru the porch screens. I would have liked a few more fancy martinis - maybe some sweet ones like snickers or gingerbread?"

  • "Overall, a very nice dining experience, it's getting harder to find quality dining establishments in the Sturbridge area. My wife and I both ordered seafood dishes and found both dishes to be a little heavy with the salt. Also found it a little odd to have crackers served with the Antipasto, they just seemed a little out of place. Otherwise the service was excellent, the prices reasonable and the ambiance was exceptional. They did a great job renovating the old Whistling Swan."

  • "We caught Avellino on a quiet (Sat of Memorial Weekend) night. Service excellent, attentive, but not overly bothersome. Appetizer of bruschetta was unique and very well done. Salad fresh, but average. Entrees were very good, mine was egg plant parm, my wife had seared scallops on saffron risotto. Both were well presented and delicious. The menu had a nice variety of selections. Great dessert menu. Wine list was primarily Italian, with nice price and quality selections. Dining room was bright, nicely decorated, pleasant and spotless. Overall a terrific experience....and we'll definitely be back."

  • "We visit "Duck" every time we went Antique fair at Brimfield but Avellino first time, reason is they close on Sunday. Small plates. Arancini(fried rice balls completely different from Japanese rice ball) was very nice. Mussels was also good. Spaghetti al Frutti di Mare was big volume, enough for two. We regret that their house wine(asked white and dry) was not so good. "

  • " I am immediately relaxed when seated at a table in any of the lovely dining spaces. I like red wine and have had some lovely ones at Avellino. Every meal I've had has been wonderful; from salad to dessert! My favorite comfort food is the eggplant parm; and mushroom risotto with scallops(the scallops are melt in your mouth delicious) for seafood. Ricco and his staff know how to cook seafood, so if there is a seafood special do try it, you won't be sorry. My husband is not an adventurous eater so he sticks with more traditional dishes like pasta with bolognese sauce, chicken parm, and lasagna; he gives all 5 stars. Save room for dessert! The entire staff is welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. Avellino is my choice for a special night."

  • "After seeing a write up in a newspaper that a customer had left at my place of business, we decided to go and check it out with another couple. Having made reservations, we were promptly seated when we arrived. Almost immediately we were brought water and warm fresh bread with dipping oils.There was a fairly large wine menu and several Chianti choices. Once we had decided what are meal choices were,The waiter was very attentive making sure that our glasses never really emptied too far. The veal was cooked perfectly, along with the scallop dish. I loved that there were so many risotto options. Can't wait for our next trip back to try some other options on the menu, and maybe sit at the chefs table or even venture for a cooking class."

  • "This was our first visit and we will definitely be returning! We really enjoyed the open kitchen and being able to watch the chef at work. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The antipasti was a nice mix of meats, cheeses and vegetables-a small was enough for 4 of us to get a little taste of everything. We had chicken piccata (very good), veal parmigiana (excellent) and the ricotta gnocchi in bolognese sauce (completely magical!). The gnocchi alone will ensure a return trip for another serving! The desserts were good, but only the special (a chocolate cup with chocolate mousse and fresh fruit) and the lemon grass panna cotta were notable. Our waiter, Daniel, was attentive without being intrusive and very helpful."

  • "So this is a qualified endorsement: if you're in Sturbridge, this is a good place to go. We traveled west to pay this place (the former Whistling Swan) a visit and while it is decent, very nicely appointed it is nothing special. That said, in a town with a lot of chain and pub-type places it is probably one of the better local spots to dine. My biggest complaint was a misrepresentation on the menu. The appetizer was listed as bacala (salt cod, re hydrated) with potato cakes. Instead we received bacala in potato cakes, sort of a "fried/breaded fish cake"; not what I was reading and expecting. The rest of the meal was good to very good. The wine list was a pleasant surprise, some decent Italian choices that paired well. The room is very nice."

  • "A romantic, candlelit dinner with delicious cocktails, mouthwatering appetizers, and entrees to die for... What more could you ask for? The restaurant itself was beautiful and homey. It was like being in Grandma's kitchen all over again. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He made our decisions even more difficult with the incredible list of specials he described with ease. Everything that we ordered was fantastic but the entrees are what we'll be back for. If you like seafood and you like pasta, the Spaghetti al Frutti di Mare is for you. The highlight of the night, for me anyway, was the Ricotta Gnocchi Bolognese. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It was a perfect Valentine's Day dinner!"

Great food- Great Chef! You will not be disappointed at this establishment. And with the addition of the new renovations that will be completed in April 2014, Avellino's will soon become the number one Italian restaurant in the town of Sturbridge, in my humble opinion."

Gluten free vegan had the best meal ever...even had 4 dessert choices that were vegan gluten free. The waitress was helpful,friendly and very attentive. Will be back and hope the chef puts the grill Brussels sprout salad on the spring menu."
