  • "No one does justice to the abaca do like the appetizer at Aveline. For steak lovers, you can choose from the Japanese or American wagyu, both excellently prepared. The seafood selection is a tribute to the Bay Area's offerings. Finally, the wine list shows great variety, although in need of more California wines."

  • "It was lovely to sit in a restaurant for dinner that exuded a beautiful femininity for once. Our entrees came out about at least 5 minutes apart due in part to us receiving an order meant for another table. Apologies were made, so it wasn't a big deal, but it was noticeable enough. The amberjack and the abalone dishes were heavy handed with the salt. I loved the fazzoletti. The yolk beignet tasted like Chinese cha sui bao, not impressive. WE LOVED THE BREAD. I hated the Szechuan Peaches dessert. My mom's from Szechuan so I know the flavor profile well, and it didn't work for me. We felt like the "Me So ____" was a completely tasteless title that ended the meal on a sour note. No need to make people feel needlessly uncomfortable."

  • "Every dish that was presented to us was a work of art. The corn pudding with squash blossoms was perfection as were the oysters and clams on ice. My Chilean sea bass was delicate and delicious. We ran out of time so no dessert for us, but we will be going back soon. Wait staff is top notch. Even though their water glasses are small and my husband would empty them every 5 minutes, they were promptly refilled. We LOVED this place!"

  • "For a brand new restaurant, only open a little over a month, we were blown away. Everything was perfect. The food was interesting, hit the umami scale on almost every dish, and beautiful to look at. We loved the staff and they really knew the menu. Attention to detail evident at every step of the way! Marla even recommended an adaption to the desert menu which we loved. We will be back and will recommend to all in the downtown area."

I was absolutely floored by this amazing restaurant which opened in early June. The food was excellent and the service could not have been any better than it was, my only regret was not being able to sample everything! Aveline will be a regular stop for me while visiting San Francisco, bravo!"

  • "Food was lovely to look at and delicious. It is also pricey and portions are on small side, so may not be welcome by big eaters. It was fine for me, but I don't eat a lot. One objection - they charge for bread which consists of a few cubes of bread. Our server was wonderful and very helpful. Overall it was a fine, special occasion place for us."

  • "If you don't try this restaurant soon you won't be able to obtain a reservation. Be sure to try the Crab Macarooms for one of the greatest, and most fun, presentations you will find anywhere. Every course of our meal was perfect, memorable, and delicious. The wines by the glass were exceptional, as were the cocktails from The European Bar next door. The menu is small, but there is something special for everyone. The service equaled the food as well. The evening will set you back a few dollars, but you will walk out raving about the experience."

Food excellent but someone needs to be watching front of house. So go to try some great, creative dishes and hope you get served."

  • "After looking at Yelp reviews, I feared this would be a big hit to my pocketbook, considering that the dishes are small plates. My tab, including tip and tax, came to $85 for 2 dishes, 2 cocktails, 1 dessert. That's fair. Especially considering that this is some of the BEST FOOD EVER! I had the crab macaroons and the yolk beignets, both because of other reviewer comments. I shared one of the macaroons and I DID NOT WANT TO - I wanted to covet them. The waitstaff was so helpful, honest, and gracious, considering they had to stagger service when my dining companion was 45 minutes late stuck in traffic. I will be back next time I'm in the Union Square area."

The morel dish was one of the best appetizers we have had, with layers of flavors and textures; the crab macaroons were cute and presented in a box with a string tied around it. I had the sea bass, and the sauce/soup poured around it was deeply flavored. My husband had the pasta with pig cheeks and it was rich and unctuous. The wines are ones that are not seen elsewhere, and they had good coffee too. The chef was in the house."

  • "We were more than pleasantly surprised at the quality and inventiveness of all our courses. The "garden" salad was a true garden, planted in various kinds of soil -- the most delicious soil you'll ever eat. It was beautiful and an incredibly new and delightful experience for our palates. Diners all around us were enjoying a variety of other dishes. The sea bass also was unique in its exceptionally well flavored juices. Could not have been better, can't wait for our next visit."

  • "We had a pre-theater dinner at Aveline and loved it. The food was generally delicious and very creative. We highly recommend the morels appetizer, wagyu beef entree (unbelievable) and the see bass entree (delicious, but could have been a bit hotter). We also had the "batter" dessert which was tasty and hilarious. I don't want to ruin the surprise for others, but the presentation is priceless. The only dish we did not love was the fazzoletti pasta appetizer with squash blossoms, possibly because we weren't expecting it to be so spicy. The service was also a little slow. Besides that, the restuarant was amazing and we're thrilled to have such a great new restaurant in the theater district."

  • "My husband and I used to eat at the Italian restaurant that was previously in this location before going to the theater. When I saw it on Open Table, I decided to give it a try. It was completely out of the ordinary. To start, the avocado and crab cake appetizers were unbelievable. The wagyu yolk brioche was good, though had more bread than I expected (no fault of the restaurant; it was a brioche). The fried chicken with pickled veggies and kimchi was fantastic. I loved the palate refreshers too. Unfortunately, there were timing issues in the kitchen so we didn't have time for dessert. I'm a risk taker, but a few items were too daring for me; one dish included "sea foam." Huh? Still, an excellent and unique dining experience."

It was such a treat to try all these different cuisines with a twist...crab cakes served like french macaroons with a hint of ginger; savory donut served with egg yolk center and outer shell was wagyu steak which just melted in the mouth. All ingredients were based on seasonal fresh produce."

  • "Great service. Menu looks eclectic, but it all works together in harmony. Plate delivery is well timed and plating presentation enhances the experience. The palate cleansers are wonderful and should be shared. Wine list is small and you will find some gems. My only complaint is that some of the chairs are not right for a longer dining experience. Overall a great night, at the right price that exceeded expectations."
