  • "We had the chef's tasting menu. We enjoyed each course. The food was delicious. We mentioned that we loved cheese so they added a cheese course (we thought it would replace dessert, not be an additional dessert to the 2 they served and be an additional cost item). We each had one drink plus my husband had one glass of wine and a cup of coffee. As I said, we enjoyed the meal, but the price was such that it will be a while before we return."

  • "My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Avance last night and it was an extraordinary experience. We had the chef's tasting and everything about it was a surprising delight. The meal was impeccably creative, not only in taste but in visual presentation and along with the attentive wait staff this was an extra special evening. Every detail was a gift. Every morsel was thoughtfully prepared building to multiple crescendo's throughout. This chef is truly an artist and his fare culinary art, satisfying on every level. Thank you Avance and Chef Bogle for having the courage to introduce this city of fine restaurants with one that raises the bar and amazes on it's own terms."

  • "My husband and I are frequent diners at Philadelphia restaurants; however, it's been a long while since we've been as impressed with a dining experience like we had at Avance this weekend. We sampled the fare from the tasting menu, and thought that the meal was perfectly balanced -- wonderful flavors prepared with precision to bring the most out of the very fresh ingredients. The service was top notch, yet down to earth and friendly -- not unlike some of our favorite restaurants in Paris. The staff accommodated my specific food preferences (I'm 7 months pregnant), and each of the staff personally signed a birthday card for my husband, who was celebrating his special day at Avance. Would highly recommend."

Asparagus and scallop dishes missed the mark. It was an ok meal but certainly did not meet expectations when a dinner for 4 costs close to $500. Hoped for better at the former home of Le Bec Fin."

  • "Absolutely the best place in town!!! This was our first visit, and they made sure that we wouldn't forget it. We chose to do a la cartè, and have a bottle of champagne. The entire team visited our table to congratulate us for our anniversary. The food was phenomenal and the presentation was top notch. As a server in a competitors restaurant, I must say, we can take a few pointers. Very well done!! Looking forward to our next visit."

  • "Wonderfully doting service combined with great dishes. Really cool interior. Was expecting a different (Le Bec Fin awning) look outside but walked right past the new decor. Loved the drinks and wine as well! I was presented with a birthday card signed by the staff. It was such a nice surprise. "

  • "Second time to Avance after loving it the first time. This time did not disappoint! We opted for the Chef's Tasting and told the server some of the dishes we preferred. We loved every one. Favorites were foie gras, king crab, skate, and the grilled vegetable platter. The bread served with each course is absolutely delicious; even a carb avoider can't say no...and, with the delicious butter and sea salt - it is amazing. Wine list is excellent; the chocolate dessert and salted caramels I received for my birthday treat was fabulous! The staff could not do enough for us; beyond attentive. We can't wait to dine again! A must try for a special occasion or even a group of friends! It is just that good!"

  • "We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at Avance and enjoyed it tremendously. The 5 course tasting menu was our selection; everything was delicious. When dining at a special place, it is expected there will be plates which would be nearly impossible to replicate at home so we were more than satisfied on that front. Philadelphia has become such a foodie town, with many wonderful restaurants to sample but we will definitely return to try to tasting menus for the rest of the seasons."

It is expensive and some might find the staff pretentious but go in with the willingness to be served and enjoy it! The food is nothing less than exceptionally delicious and beautiful as well.   • "The Chef's tasting menu was spectacular. Creative, interesting, beautiful, and delicious. Despite LaBan's complaints, the service was impeccable, not even slightly over the top or pretentious, and "we have a bread program" wasn't mentioned even once (so maybe they changed things since he visited). An expensive indulgence, but one of the finest dining experience Philly has to offer. BTW, the bar downstairs is also excellent (love the lamb burger!)."

  • "Very good tasting food, knowledgable staff. The chef is very talented and creative. He pairs things together that one would normally toss - a broccoli stalk or the stem of dill. There were too many servers so it did get a bit confusing. The prices were a bit too ridiculous for the small amount of food that you actually get and not worth it. I left feeling very taken advantage of. "

  • "What a lovely dinner on a holiday Friday evening at an avant-garde but refreshing restaurant in Philly, in the space of the venerable Le Bec Fin. Chef Bogle outdoes the deconstructionist trend by reassembling many dishes in innovative ways, and the staff are sublime in being helpful, funny, engaging, and adding to an overall wonderful experience. Price ranges include a standard one or two starters followed by a main, and a dessert, or go to the full 9 yards of Chef's "omekase" in the best sense of the word (it is not a Japanese restaurant). Wines are lovely for domestic, the best of those from France and Italy. Treat yourself to a wonderful experience in how food and dining can be a holistic experience. i won't miss it in Phlly. "

Presentation was artful but that's the only positive. Service was extremely slow, with long wait times between courses. Misinformation from the wait staff, such as desserts being large enough to share (they are not). Look elsewhere in Philadelphia as there are much better restaurants at half the price."

  • "Exceptional says it all at Avance. From the moment we were greeted by the head server to each delectable course from the spring tasting menu, we enjoyed our experience at Avance. Each server presented these petite dishes that were so creatively designed from taste to appearance. Every ingredient that was used was mentioned by the server and I must say by the end of the meal my taste buds were completely satisfied. We will definitely return with a group as it was so fun to taste each ingredient and share our opinions. Exceptional wine list and we enjoyed a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir. "

  • "Everything was wonderful, from the décor to the excellent service. But the best part of our dining experience was Chef Bogle's imaginative food preparation and presentation. His two Michelin stars are obviously well deserved. We chose the chef's five course tasting menu and every bite was a new delight. Chef Bogle's creativity competes with Chicago's Grant Ashatz of Alinea, and the tastes rival dishes we have enjoyed from New York's Daniel Boulud and Napa's famous Thomas Keller. This was our fourth visit to Avance, and each time has been an enjoyable treat.. Since the 1970's Philly has been known for it's fine dining options. Avance has raised that to a much higher level."

  • "My husband and I went there for our Anniversary. It was perfect! The decor is more understated elegance than you would expect from the place that now inhabits the former Le Bec Fin's home for over two decades. The service was exception and the staff was knowledgeable but not the lease bit pretentious. We eat out often and have a pretty extensive resume of fine restaurants but the menu was so intimidating that we decided to do the chef's tasting. It was the right decision for sure. Tom took a list of things we thought we might like and the chef incorporated them into our meal. The presentation was exquisite and the food was outstanding from first bite to last. We only had 2 glasses of wine and dinner for 2 was nearly $500 yet we shall return"

We love eating out and are generally pleased by the great restaurants and chefs we find in Philly, but for this occasion I wanted something more special. We left Avance in awe of the staff, the chef, and the incredible food. The tasting menu was superb; complex, thoughtful and perfect. Yes, this place is pricier than the average good Philly meal, but you're paying for a quality of ingredients and service that we haven't experienced anywhere else in the city. We were blown away by the staff's efforts in helping us make this celebration special. I highly recommend Avance if you're looking to treat yourself and others to an unforgettable meal."

  • "I was a fan of Guilt in NYC and now a fan of Avance. Service was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed the 7 course Chef's menu. Particular highlights were the scallop course, sweetbreads and a tender sirloin. Wish we lived closer. The different breads are a definite highlight. Restaurant was elegant without being stuffy."
