The hostesses got me the table I had requested with my reservation, which was right in front with a harbor view. Our wait staff was amazing, from the water and bread server's all the way to our main waitress. The food was outstanding as well! The restaurant was extremely busy, but I would definitely go back and give my recommendation.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best optionWe were visiting Avalon for a few days and ate at this spot twice. Both times the service was great and atmosphere good although pretty quiet both times. I live in Colorado, so when I'm on the ocean, I want fresh seafood. It was strangely absent from most places in town. The Avalon Grill did a great job with the limitations they have of trying to have a high end restaurant with a nice menu in a town driven by seasonal tourism. Service was attentive. I recommend the fried green tomatoes starter. Sand dabs were the special seafood of the day and they were prepared perfectly! I usually don't care for calimari but my husband ordered it as an appetizer(fried)and it was the best I ever had! They threw in some shrimp in the mix and it made for a good portion size.
Our server was extremely helpful. I had a long day at work and asked what drink she suggested. I had the "French kiss"- vodka, pineapple&raspberry juice, garnished with blackberries . And that was exactly what I needed!
This time I had the salmon which was amazing but next time im going to have the "half chicken" again. Employees were super friendly. Waiter was professional but not stuffy, which we really liked. We were disappointed with the calamari appetizer and drinks (margaritas). My quail entree was delicious. Calamari: I think the cap must have fallen off the salt shaker. Some pieces were bland and others were so salty they were hard to eat. I declared it inedible, but my husband who loves salt ate it but admitted that it was hard to eat. We also thought our margaritas were way too sour (face puckering sour), but we watered them down and drink them.
