Ava Kitchen & Whiskey Bar is a modern version of an old world setting, serving American and Mediterranean favorites. It is a long sexy space with comfy sofas and zinc top tables facing Kirby Drive. A patio wraps around the entrance. Menu selections range from small plates (ideal for sharing), to… pasta, seafood, steaks and a great burger (of course). "While the atmosphere at Ava's is great, the food was subpar. While the menu had some great choices and the execution was good, the cuts of meat were poor at best. Both the t-bone and lamb were extremely fatty and the sides and salads were average."

"The waitstaff was nice and the food was good. They squeezed our party of 6 at a 4 person table that backed up to the bar. It was very loud and hard to hold a conversation. It was not well suited for our group."

"I was pleasantly surprised with a nicer atmosphere than the name applies. I expected more of a casual gastropub, but experienced a nice restaurant instead. The upscale design called for nicer attire than what I chose. The cuisine was also geared more toward the mid-scale foodie as opposed to being nice bar food. I should have visited their web site first because their presence on OpenTable doesn't do it enough justice. Superb service, nice wine selection, delicious fresh bread, Speck Wrapped Dates, Pappardelle ‘Grandmere’ & Rigatoni ‘Vecchio Mundo’. The Manager even surprised us with a shrimp stuffed squid appetizer that was quite a palate teaser. We'll be back for more and to try the Pizza and bands at Alto upstairs as well."

"We are welcomed to Ava by an extremely helpful and friendly Hostess. We waited for more in our group and enjoyed drinks at the bar. Service was attentive and the drinks were appropriately priced for the level. Seated and then greeted by our server was also pleasant. However, the dining experience took a turn for the worse when the food arrived - beginning with the "fishy", imitation-tasting, crab cocktail. We promptly returned this dish to be greeted with a steak tar tar, that while tasteful, lacked the typical firm texture found in the average tartar. Things did not get any better with the entrees, from the overcooked, dry steak, to the overcooked Ahi Tuna steak. The creme brulee was topped with still frozen berries."

"The menu here is great; however, my meal disappointed on the lack of basic salt. The steak tartare was okay but needed some salt either in the seasoning or the toast. Then my striped bass was slightly overcooked and the broccoli rabe needed salt or some type of seasoning. My margarita was okay…supposed to be spicy but wasn't. I like the style of restaurant and the menu sounds wonderful. It could be magnificent with a little more attention to seasoning and execution. I'll give it some time and try again."
