Diner Reviews
  • "Good food but for the prices charged the service was so-so."

  • "sometimes you don't. My husband ordered guacamole appetizer, chipotle ribs and bacon wrapped shrimp dinner. The guac was,at best, so-so. The ribs and shrimp were AMAZING! Came with an avocado sauce we could have just drank with a straw it was so delicious. The guac on his plate was great, much better than the appetizer. I ordered the salmon because I saw a magazine review that it was one of the 50 best dishes on the north shore. It was good, but not great. It was forgettable. The green beans on the side, however, were delicious. I guess it's in what you order because he won, I lost."

  • "Great place and wonderful consistent food quality. The service is outstanding and. We love sitting outside, I highly recommend this experience"

  • "Authentico used to be such a great place to meet for an awesome, fun dinner with friends or family. We live in the area - so we try to support our local restaurants if at all possible. But Saturday night's experience was dismal. That's three for three. Not only was the service very poor, the food wasn't good at all. Everyone at our table has been there many times - and we all agreed it will be a long time before we are back. So sad!"

  • "Husband and I ate at Authentico on a Saturday night Really good atmosphere- great service- and I was wary since I had ready that the service is erratic We all enjoyed our food- the nachos appetizer was creative and delicious my Halibut was a little spicier than I anticipated, but I enjoyed it the chicken Fajitas smelled divine Our friend who does not really enjoy Mexican food loved the skirt steak- so menu has something for most Will definitely return"

  • "Good food. Salsa could be better. Service was less then average. Not a lot of variety of vodka for mixed drinks. Okay place. Not worth all the hype."

  • "Either lower the prices or increase the quality! No value added. Drinks and food too pricy compared to value and quality"

  • "Had dinner on a Saturday evening, very busy everything was very good but a little pricey."

  • "As locals we are always trying to support local restaurants..previous experiences at Authentico had been mediocre but decided to give it another try. Big mistake. The place was a chaotic madhouse and not in a fun way! Clearly understaffed and disorganized, we received horrible service and average food (nothing complicated.... Simple fajitas). Paying top price for unacceptable fare and service is an experience I won't repeat. "

  • "Good casual neighborhood spot. I like energetic, but its so loud inside you have to yell across table to your friends to have a conversation."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "While the overall experiance was above average, it was disappointing due to the waiter not paying attention when we first placed our order and ended up with the fish tacos rather than the steak toacos. My wife had completely finished her meal while I waited for the for steak tacos to arrive. The manager didn't even come over and at try to appease us."

  • "I love going here for dinner or just drinks and appetizers. Tasty tequilas and very good fajitas. I recommend the chocolate cake for dessert. The best! Service can be iffy. Some nights it is great other nights not so good."

  • "Good ambience, fajitas were terrible, Crab enchiladas and tacos good, Service stinks, extremely slow or understaffed "
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "Varied Mexican menu that includes staples such as tacos, burritos, etc. and some interesting fish, chicken and beef entrees. Food is very good, prepared with fresh ingredients. The guacamole is terrific. Our few times there service has been average. Waiters do their job but do not "engage" guests in a friendly way that would make the experience complete and more enjoyable. "

  • "The restaurant is really a great location. The outdoor seating is quite nice. I like everything about this place but the food. The drinks were way overpriced and watery. The food was bland and lacking in any form of character. I really wanted to like this place, it's too bad. The service was great and the vibe was really good too. Yet, all that is overshadowed by a $16 margarita that tastes like it is half water. Oh well, I guess the search for a great Mexican place on the North Shore continues..."

  • "Food was very good; service was wonderful. I would give this restaurant high praise. We never felt rushed even though they were busy. Prices weren't outrageous. Everything tasted delicious. I really liked our waiter. Offered suggestions and described the dishes to us. Helpful and funny. There is a nice outdoor seating area that looked really nice. In good weather, it looks great for groups! "

  • "Enchiladas Authentico are my favorite. Salads are great as well. Portions are not too big which make for guilt free Mexican Dining. The Margaritas are outstanding."

  • "I have been to Authentico before but not since change in management. Overall characterization is that food has come down a couple notches and emphasis on turning over tables. After one drink, we were not asked whether we wanted another. Manager/owner was over our shoulder repeatedly. I understand wanting to be present but I felt like every time I took a bite, manager or waiter was asking how things were. Waiter described dessert choices, left for us to consider, and did not come back to ask whether we had made a choice or wanted coffee. Just presented the bill. Was a fan but may have to travel to Zapatista for a better experience."

  • "David was our waiter. He was friendly and made us feel very welcome. The food is superb. Fresh, flavorful and simply a classy mexican restaurant with a twist. although the menu is a bit higher than normal mexican food, it is well worth it."

  • "It's now my favorite Mexican restaurant. Everything was perfect--food, service and ambiance! Fun, lively place."

  • "The food there is excellent. Best tacos I have ever eaten. However, the service was horrible but it was only because we had a bad waiter. I was watching the other waiters around us and they were so much better than the one we got. He never noticed that our water glasses were empty and I had finished my water before we even ordered and I didn't get a refill until I had to ask another waitress to get us some more. I was already half way done with my entree by then. I also asked for a side of pinco de gallo and he charged me $3.50 for it and didn't even tell me that it was extra. It was just ridiculous. He was no where to be find the entire dinner too. Only came by once. "

  • "Excellent dinner. Good chips and dip right away as we sat. Nice job on cocktails. Entrees were great. Had chicken taco special and steak taco special. Will definitely go back."

  • "Had a great experience the first time we went. This time around our waiter was horrible! Forgot to serve us 2 items included a drink we had ordered twice. The wine list (by the glass) had very few options, including 1 item that was not even available."

  • "Authentico is my go-to restaurant for celebrations & business meetings. It's a bit of a drive for me (I live in Wisconsin), but it's worth the trip every time. I have several food allergies, & am restricted to a diet of fresh fish, vegetables and no gluten. The mahi mahi tacos (w/ corn tortillas) are amazing. Even the accompaniments (the steamed rice and the black beans) are fresh, simple and perfect. The mango margaritas are a special treat. And if you come when the mariachi band is there, your night will be especially festive. (They serenaded me on my birthday!) My only complaint (a minor one) is that the corn tortilla chips are not fried in a dedicated gluten-free fryer, so some of us are unable to enjoy the amazing salsas and chips."

  • "We recently dined at Authentico on a Saturday evening with friends. The staff went out of our way to make it a fabulous dining experience! Will definitely be back. Our server Dina (along with the rest of the staff) was exceptional, engaging and attentive but not intrusive."

  • "Very friendly and welcoming, however, we were disappointed with the food. We ordered the enchiladas Authentico, which is seafood enchiladas, and chicken enchiladas. Both had a sweet flavor to them. Not what I want when I'm eating enchiladas. Also, they were on the small size and didn't come with any lettuce or tomato on the side, as in other Mexican restaurants. It came with black beans and cilantro/lime rice. We ordered guacamole which was pretty flavorless. The chips don't seem to be homemade and are salted. I prefer non-salted chips. Mexican food usually has enough salt in it that you don't need the extra salt and if they make their chips they have enough flavor without the salt. We won't go back."

  • "This is the second time my husband and I ate at the restaurant. Just love the food bothe of us had tilPia and were crazy about the preparation.the only fault I found was it was incredibly noisy...a little hard to talk. However the food made it worth the visit."

  • "We went on a crowded Saturday night. The place was lively. The waitress took our drink orders and I knew as soon as I tried mine it was all wrong. I sent it back and it came back wrong again. Turned out she put in for a regular margarita instead of the mango one I ordered! Even when the mango one came, very little mango flavor! You would think they would have taken it off the check. Then when our food came they gave me the wrong food order as well. I guess this time it was the buss boy's error. My chicken taco's came out momentarily. Have to say my taco's were excellent as well as my husband's mahi mahi taco's. We just wish the service would have been better."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dinner at Authentico this past weekend, including the couple that joined us that had never eaten at the restaurant. The menu is quite varied, with options for the carnivores and herbivores. Our dinners ranged from Tacos de Tinga, to Chile Rellenos, to Cheese Enchiladas to my order of the special chicken tacos of the evening. Plenty of food to go around. I loved the two salsas that come with the chips. The red sauce had a great kick to it. The noise level is normally pretty high. But, on this visit, we sat near the back where it seems to be a bit quieter. Service was friendly and helpful."

  • "My husband and I went here for Valentines Day dinner. The food was fabulous with a wonderful presentation. I loved the incredible variety of gluten-free options available listed right on the main menu. We had a wonderful time, even though we may have had the only bad seat in the restaurant...inches away from the kitchen door which made my broad-shouldered husband a little uncomfortable. Despite the seating arrangement, we will definitely try this restaurant again for the wonderful authentic food!"

  • "Authentico in Lake Forest, Illinois is a great little place! The salsas are fresh, the chips always pack the perfect crunch! I ordered the cerviche appetizer, and my table had to order two more orders, it was so delicious.. We also had the mussels with chorizo sausage, what an interesting combo… As usual, Authenico did not disappoint! We are locals, and we had friends from outside our town meet us~they were very pleased! Not your "average" mexican neighborhood restaurant. Oh, and how can I forget the "North Shore" margarita? Dangeroulsy delish."

  • "We started out just fine with Guamcamole and drinks. The ladies ordered seafood enchiladas and I ordered the Wahoo special recommended by the waitress. When the food came our they brought fish tacos for the ladies by mistake and the dries piece of fish in an unimaginative sauce. The seafood enchiladas arrived about ten minutes later with apologies from the waitress. All they did was not charge us for the fish tacos which we did not order and charged us for a more expensive white wine than we had. I dined there two or three times earlier as it is convenient but it is always a bit disappointing and I doubt I will return for dining. Maybe just the guacamole."

  • "Last time we tried this restaurant it was right after they opened. I have to say everything has improved 100%. Amongst us we had chicken enchiladas with verde sauce, beef enchilada with red sauce, diablo shrimp, and fish tacos. All was excellent. But most of all the black beans were FANTASTIC! I took a container home and had them for lunch the following day. Also, I'm not a rice eater, but their rice is heavenly. Very light and flavorful. We were there on a Tuesday night when it was 5 degrees so it was a bit slow. I imagine with the restaurant filled it would be a rather loud environment."
