Diner Reviews
  • "Maybe the best combination of food and service in Routte County. We have been in Steamboat Springs since Jume 26th and I think we and our family and friends have probably had 8-10 meals (lunch & Dinner together during that time period. No other restaurant have we been to more than 3 times!"

  • "Steamboat Springs surprisingly has some outstanding fine dining restaurants. Aurum has already placed itself in the top 5. A little more fine tuning should allow it to move up a notch or two. The food and wine selections were very good with some unique and tasty items. Food was properly prepared for our party of four except the wonderful cut of pork chop was over cooked. Fortunately, the delicious sauce with it helped cover up the error in cooking. Pricing is high, but about on par with other area fine dining restaurants. The restaurant facility itself is quite attractive and its location on the Yampa River that runs through downtown Steamboat is fabulous for both outside and inside dining. Wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable."

  • "Second time for dinner at Aurum. We sat outside. The sun was glaring in our face and the bugs were biting. So next time we will be indoors. There was also a gentleman playing the guitar and singing for a little bit. The speakers could be turned down a bit. It was difficult to talk to people at the table with the music blaring. Could maybe use umbrellas tilted to keep the afternoon sun from baking the customers. The service and the food were excellent! Tried the tenderloin for dinner and the muscles for appetizers. Mouth watering. Always enjoy the great food here."

  • "This was our first time in and as locals we were very happy to have this restaurant in our town. The food was delicious and we will be coming back."

  • "What's not to love? Sitting along the river with great drinks and tasty appetizers was sublime. We moved on to dinner with a nice bottle of Adelsheim Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley that was a perfect pairing for our salmon. The salmon was perfect with a nice mix of flavor within the fish accented by a sauce with some nice spice. As always the staff was great with just the right amount of personal attention from Lee, Jon and Phil the owner."

  • "A great new addition to Steamboat's dining choices. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Our food was great - the calamari was superb - light and crisp, and the caprese salad was divine. We were eating light that night so had the pasta, which everyone loved, in order to save room for the fantastic desserts. Pretty spot on river, tasteful minimalist decor. We will be in Steamboat for the next month (and back for the winter) and we will definitely return to try more of the menu."

  • "Aurum was a great eating experience. Started with heirloom tomato/burrata salad which was outstanding. Chilled romaine salad also very good. Beef and crab cakes were the dinners we chose--delicious. Good wine choices. Service was very good."

  • "We loved it. The food was great, and we especially liked the fact that we could talk to each other without shouting over a high noise level. Calm and relaxing with great views of the Yampa."

  • "A little rough around the edges, but pointed in the right direction."

  • "The food was quite good except for the tuna ceviche which was tasteless. The service was attentive but not overly so and our server was very cheerful and pleasant. The outdoor seating can't be beat. It's right on the river and has huge umbrellas to keep you in the shade on hot summer days and evenings. It's a little on the pricey side especially for outdoor, resort dining. I have heard that it has a great happy hour also."

  • "This restaurant has a chance but the service was terrible. We were the first 2 people to be seated in the dining room. We asked for a different table. We were told that they were all taken by reservations. When we left an hour later, only 2 additional tables were taken. We were provided a happy hour discount pricing and appetizer list too. When we asked the server for some items, he told us that he didn't think that happy hour prices were still available (30 minutes after the restaurant opened). We asked again and received the items. We were never informed about any dinner specials. We later heard another waiter giving great detail about the specials and the restaurant in general. We definitely got the wrong waiter."

  • "We were thrilled to try Aurum last week. The food was fantastic and the wine list was creative and great. We're from San Francisco and have the opportunity to eat at wonderful restaurants there and in Napa often. Aurum is right up there!"

  • "We had a large group for dinner and sat outside - wonderful that they could accommodate us on the patio. We tried almost all of the appetizers on the menu and really enjoyed them - especially the calamari and tuna and the ribs were SO GOOD. Entrees were hit or miss. Pork chop was excellent; lamb burger was just ok; kale salad was blah. Will happily return for drinks and apps."

  • "Food is always wonderful at Aurum. That night tho, there was a table with a group that was so obnoxiously loud we couldn't hear our selves think. We weren't even sitting next to them. It was a chilly night and the windows were open so we were cold. Our waiter was excellent. Our food took FOREVER to come out. Too long of a wait."

  • "Our meal with friends at Aurum along the Yampa River will be long remembered. Service was friendly & professional. Food was expertly prepared. The salmon was innovative and fresh. The Colorado stripped bass was also very fresh and delicious. Will definitely return when in Steamboat."

  • "The host was rude and confrontational. We had a reservation and showed up five minutes early and he seemed very put off by that despite our willingness to sit at the bar and have a drink while they got our table ready. All in all, he seemed irritated to have to be doing his job. It was really quite bizarre. The waitstaff was nothing but helpful, nice, and polite but the kitchen was backed up a bit so service took a long time. No big deal, but they got our order wrong and forgot to bring us silverware. Maybe we just went on the wrong night or maybe they're having growing pains. If they get the machine oiled and running well this will be a great spot. But, they should get rid of the host."

  • "The best customer service I have experienced in a long time. Very nice menu and extremely interesting wine choices from a superb winery near Cortez, Colorado. Owner Phillips is fantastic, checking in with customers, explaining food and wine in a way that excites the palate, and does whatever it takes to make the experience memorable. While we were there, we even saw him sweeping the floor. He is totally committed to a great customer experience, and instills that commitment in each of his employees. Great job!"

  • "My husband and I were visiting Steamboat for the first time and wanted to enjoy an evening out. Since we had never been I relied on the reviews I found on Open Table to select a restaurant. There were quite a few to choose from but I chose Aurum because of the fresh and local foods featured on the menu as well as it having an interesting twist to your everyday finds. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely return next time we are visiting."

  • "A group of 8 had dinner at Aurum and was completely and unanimously impressed. From greeting to departure, staff was professional, friendly and welcoming. Food was imaginative; portion sizes reasonable; the chef is to be commended for excellent work. We wish Aurum well and will return when we're next in Steamboat Springs."

  • "Aurum will rival the two cornerstones of Steamboat higher end dining, Bistro CV and Cafe Diva. The food was excellent. The wine list both interesting and exceptional, the food was outstanding, and the service was warm, engaging, and Colorado laid back. This is a great new restaurant."

  • "In case you are wondering: Aurum is the Latin word for gold. For this restaurant, the title fits perfectly for a world-class restaurant nestled on the Yampa River. The menu design was truly novel, with refreshing flavors and food combinations, it truly will inspire your palate. The staff was helpful and friendly, as well as the sommelier. They all took great care to ensure we were enjoying our meal. The atmosphere was very comfortable, and relaxing. Highly recommended spot for a romantic evening. "

  • "Oustanding in every aspect. Food was incredible, portion size was on the larger size. Share a salad as they are too big to each have one. Smaller menu but something for everyone! Service was spot on, felt more like dining in Europe than the US, Service is not trying to push you out for the next table setting, relaxed but very attentive. "

  • "We enjoyed our dining experience at Aurum a new restaurant in Steamboat. The food and service were excellent. The only concern was the interior restaurant was quite noisy. This was also true of the predecessor restaurant occupying that space. We will go there for dinner later in the summer when we can sit out doors on the deck."

  • "This is the third restaurant in this building during my 25 years in Steamboat. Until now, this outstanding location has had underwhelming food at best. Aurum is good and borders on excellent. We had the Heirloom tomato/buratta salad which was excellent despite early season tomatoes. The pork chop and halibut special were especially good with complex flavors. While the restaurant is proud of their crab cake, I found it only average despite the fact that the Cajun mustard was awesome. The crab cake just does not compare well to those from the eastern seaboard of the US. That being said, the service is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. You can tell that the chef and owner are pros and will have a very successful run in Steamboat."

  • "We are always eager to try new restaurants and Aurum did not disappoint. My husband and I were well attended by our waiter, Nick, and enjoyed a lovely conversation with Phillips, the owner. The menu provided plenty of inspired choices and our food was delicious. We look forward to returning, especially over the summer months when we can be seated outside on the beautiful deck overlooking the river. While we did not stop at the bar, it is attractive and has a great vibe."

  • "We were treated very well here, and our hostess seated us at a better table that we were booked for, one right by the windows with a great view of the river. The food was really good. The waitress recomended an off the menu special, beef stew which sounded good on a cold night. The problem was that she forgot to mention that it was hot. Very hot (not sure why a chef would put that much cayenne pepper in anything - you cant taste any other flavors when its that hot). When I mentioned it, she promptly whisked it away and brought me the Korean bbq ribs which were delicious. Everyone else in our party of 4 said their meals were excellent."
