AureoleCan't find betterYou won't find better food anywhere in the world. The tastes blend and everything melts in your mouth. If I have one complaint it would be being charged $8 per person for one glass of sparkling water after ordering a bottle. I don't mind spending over $800 for 3 of us to have dinner but I resent being taken advantage of.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulIt is truly wonderful to have this beautiful, elegant restaurant in the theater district. The food is excellent and the ambiance is perfect.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat for birthdaysit can be expensive, but you live once, might as well live it up!
the aureole cocktail was so delicious, get it!
and I requested a candle in the dessert and they brought out a lovely plate with a candle and written in chocolate "Happy Birthday" it was so cute!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful dining experience!!!Everything was incredible. It was one of our very best dining experiences ever. We had the 7 course chef's menu and could not find anything negative to say about any of the dishes. Service was impeccable. This was our second visit to Aureole and we are already looking forward to the next one.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you like good deconstructedIf you like good deconstructed cuisine at high prices near the theater, this is the place for you,5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCod was amazingI would highly recommend this restaurant. All the dishes were artfully plated and tasted as good as they looked! The decor is very tastefully done inside. The cod was amazing and the toffee dessert was delicious too. I liked this better than LeBernadin for atmoshpere and food.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Pre Theater restaurantWe dined at Aureole before our Broadway show in New York last week. The location next to the lovely Bryant Park on 42nd street is perfect, as you can just walk the few blocks to most of the theaters after diner.
But the true gem here is the food. we choose 3 courses from their pre-theater menu ($55), and I must admit that they where all outstanding. I had the best Pasta dish I have had for years, and their chokolade dessert was outstanding.
In between the steak dish was also very good, with especially the smoked potato on the side which really impressed and gave the dish another level from the normal steak dinner.
First class all the way. Highly recommend dining here before your theater show.

Visitors from Denmark.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNot your childhood OreoBrilliant adult restaurant. Food and Service outstanding. Ambience great but somehow I still miss the old location with its old world elegance.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch and a very capable,Great lunch and a very capable, low key waiter. The dishes were served attractively with sensible portions.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for the Sunday RoastWe went for the Sunday Roast Beef dinner, Big Mag Boeuf Sundays, in the bar. The meal was very good and an excellent value - three courses with wine was $49 before tax and tip. There were no options on this menu but that wasn't an issue for any of our group since the dishes were perfect for a roast beef dinner. The dessert, Baba Bouchon, was outstanding. Also, one of us doesn't drink red wine so they offered a white instead. This gets our highest rating - it is a Do-Over.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb service, exquisiteSuperb service, exquisite food and wonderful presentation. I will definitely be back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMA true culinary experience!Five Course Dinner served with perfection! Timing, discretion and professionalism of service team was outstanding - every dish was visually appealing and every bite was a true culinary experience. We enjoyed tasting every fresh ingredient - it was divine!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was really good......butThe food was really good......but the portions were tiny and the price was outrageous. The food was not worth what we paid for it.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI've eaten here before, thisI've eaten here before, this time I opted for the 5 dourse tasting menu. Everything I ate was delicious. Service was unobrusive, but prompt. Overall a wonderful meal.
Can't wait to return.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOur third time here in lastOur third time here in last 3 visits to NYC. A little bit of a weight for our table in dining room this time. Bar area quite lively and noise level high. Dining room was very pleasant in contrast. Mark, our maitre de table and his team was very good. He easily handled our request for vegan dishes and the chef created very good entree dishes for us. Very convenient location for us when we come to town. Also proximate to a number theaters you can walk to.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMPower Lunch for Conde Nast SetYou can literally feel the power of important lunches happening around you. The food is solid, not outstanding. I appreciate the portion sizes for the pre fixe are perfect. Just wish the food was prepared a bit quicker...good thing we weren't in a rush.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time in their new location,First time in their new location, and they have managed to attract both the dinner crowd as well as a more sophisticated bar crowd with an a la carte menu at the bar.
Portions are small by NY standards but prepared with care and delicious.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate in the back diningWe ate in the back dining room, which has a different menu than the front dining room. It was a fabulous experience. The seared fois gras is out of this world delicious4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMwe had made reservations forwe had made reservations for the dining room (because of the "romantic rep") and were steered into the bar area dining upon arrival (which is neither intimate or romantic). Food similar in both areas (and was awesomely tasty) but patrons should be clear ahead of time what area of the restaurant they want.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSerendipitous delight!Went for pre-theater dining. Wished we had more time! Not rushed by staff, just would liked to have lingered longer. Rabbit incredible, foie gras divine, and free-range chicken succulent...presentations tastefully elegant. Highly recommend and we will return. If it is pre-theater, we will add at least 30 minutes to our reservation...4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe five course dinner menuThe five course dinner menu was great! The Hudson Valley foie was spectacular. The evening I went there was a private function at the bar and the room was noisy. Other than that the experience was very good and will repeat.
The move from their previous location is a definite plus.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMPas de deuxAlways enjoyable, standards still surprise. The beef carpaccio elegant and light with a silky marbled sheet of beef; the salmon gravlax constructed like a small planter ringed by a crispy dough, with herb sprigs, green sprouts and shoots delicately tucked in to tease the palate, stacked with funnels of cucumber slices holding caviar, radish rounds cut like flowers it was as beautiful as it was delicious. The butter poached lobster was succulent, just cooked flesh infused with the decadence, the rib eye was the heart of the cut perfectly done as a round of savory, crusty meat sliced through the rare middle. Wine list is extensive, by the glass perfectly adequate. With spouse tucked into the banquette, I felt like proposing - again!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect! The Aureole staff was exceptional, which added to the amazing food. The fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The beef dish was flavorful and cooked perfectly. Every dish left us proclaiming the quality of the chef. The staff served the pre-theatre crowd with precision and a smile, something difficult to do in such a small space!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMRead some of the negativeRead some of the negative reviews and I was skeptic, specially because the "new" location is kind of not the crowd that they use to have at UES, but I was very impressed and happy with the food, service, ambiance, etc. I loved it and food was as fantastic as always.
Definitely the best experience pre-theater around there.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMService was excellent. MostService was excellent. Most of the dinner crowd is pre-theatre since Broadway is located a block away. We were not pre-theatre and advised them of that, and they did not attempt to rush us at all through the meal. Prix-fixe is reasonable for restaurants of this calibre and overall a good experience.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSure to pleaseCelebrated my niece's 13th Birthday with a day trip to NYC. Aureole for lunch was one of several highlights. I've visited on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Lunch is spectacular and the prix fixe menu is always fabulous and very reasonably priced. Service and food are everything you'd expect from a James Beard-winning chef's restaurant. A wonderful destination sure to please.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAureole -- Great Service and FoodWhen we arrived, I realized I could not recall what time our show began that evening. The staff researched it for me and let me know. We had one or two special requests that the staff handled with graciousness. My black cod was truly outstanding. Everyone else at the table gave the food rave reviews. It was a terrific experience. We enjoyed every minute and would definitely go again.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperbOnly one word fits - superb. Nothing negative to say about this dining experience - well, maybe it took a little long to get our check after we were done.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb meal. We have the 3Superb meal. We have the 3 course tasting menu. Foie Gras & Spring Rabbit were fabulous. Sommelier made great recommendations for our wine pairings. Didn't rush us, and their anticipation of what we needed (time, wine, space) was spot on.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA spectacular meal. WouldA spectacular meal. Would have to be in my top 10 best meals. Every dish had it's own twist and was well presented. My wife had the lobster and I had the Rib Eye for our main courses. Can't say enough about the meals, steak was done to perfection and the lobster was perfect. A meal we won't soon forget - excellent food with excellent service - highly recommended.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMPre theater menu was veryPre theater menu was very good. Pumpkin soup excellent. More sauce on chicken please! Enjoyed desert.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMService was lively and funService was lively and fun and kitchen and new chef were excellent and accommodating.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTruly outstanding food withTruly outstanding food with no drop in quality from the prior location and hey day. Unfortunately a lot of the personal dining experience is now gone as the when we ate at the prior location we had our own personal table attendant who oversaw the other waiters, made suggestions, was a wine pro, and great guide for the evening. In addition the restaurant was quiet and romantic. Now it is a hustling and bustling place with a bar scene up front which is very loud and the noise filters into the open door into the small dining room. Instead of a personal attendant you now get a standard waiter who is very good mind you (ours was Mark) but it is not the same as in the old place. However, the food itself makes it still worth the visit.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous fine dining stepsFabulous fine dining steps from the theater district. The Tuna Sushimi was the best I've had in a long time. Our waiter was warm and helpful.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Dining Experience EverNo words can describe the pure excellence of my recent 5-course tasting meal at Aureole. Like no restaurant I have ever been to before. I can't find a flaw in a single thing. The private tour of the kitchen was an amazing add on. The service was spot on - the only time my water glass was empty was at the end of the meal; the timing on the refills was great, in fact all of the logistics were pitch perfect. There was the appropriate amount of time between courses, and the entire dinner. The food was the best I've ever eaten, and the portions were the right size. I was left without hunger whatsoever, but was not by any means stuffed. The price was well worth it. Note: I ordered the normal 5 course tasting menu.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMpeople with no jackets inpeople with no jackets in the main dining room changes the experience
I miss the old east side location as well as it's ambience4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe didn't go for the tastingWe didn't go for the tasting menu as it had some things on it that didn't grab us. The three course prix fix was perfect and we both loved out food and service. We had a position where I could watch the service staff and it was very clear they are very well trained. The activity level of the staff was almost blinding speed, but they delivered and removed everything with a coordinated grace. Wonderful place in the back room. Very quiet and easy to talk.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe main complaint I haveThe main complaint I have is the long delays between courses. If you planning a pre-theater meal, I would recommend a 5 or 5:30pm reservation for an 8pm show.
We came in early for a 6pm reservation & had to quickly eat our desserts in order to make it to the show on time. To be fair, the waiter did warn us, but we ordered from the Prix Fixe menu. The food and service otherwise was excellent. We were a family of four & all of us truly enjoyed our meal. This is an expensive restaurant and the serving sizes are small, but each dish is a work of art.
The Charlie Palmer teas are the best we have ever had! But again, $10ea ($40 total for a party of four) for sparkling water was a bit much.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food, service and ambianceThe food, service and ambiance were outstanding! I will recommend your resturant to friends and family.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great evening out.We had a great evening out. Intially placed on a table with a fair amount of 'traffic' going past us and asked to move. Offered another 'not so good' table but eventually did get a good table so it was worth perservering.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe (me and my wife) wantedWe (me and my wife) wanted to try a starred Michelin restaurant and were very pleased to have chosen Aureole. Food and service were outstanding3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Best NYC has to OfferAureole, is simply outstanding in every way. We come to NYC 4 times a year and on each trip we dine at this great restaurant. We often dine at upscale well regarded restaurants and always find Aureole to the be the best of the best.
The service is A+ and the food is sensational.
To anyone wanting to experience the best of NYC restaurants, this is the place.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed the pre-theatreWe enjoyed the pre-theatre menue. The food was delicious, the ambience was special and the service was excellent. We did not feel rushed and were finished in time for our show.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely meal - wine lacklusterWe enjoyed our evening and the 7 course Chef's tasting menu. The wine pairings with our meal were very disappointing - 2 of which we simply chose not to drink. All of the wines were fresh from the vine and too young for our palette. With the exception of the Sauterne, we would not order any of them again. I had hoped that they would pull out the big guns with the meat course but that was not the case. We may return for a meal again at some point but will leave the wine to our own devices next time. The service was excellent but at times almost a distraction with 9 or 10 wait staff bustling around the small 15 table room.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful meal. Staff is soWonderful meal. Staff is so very attentive, was quite impressive. Felt so special dining here and will definitely come again.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMService was outstanding andService was outstanding and food was wonderful. My parents celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary and we were well taken care of.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMChefs tasting Menu was fantasticChefs tasting Menu was fantastic along with wine pairing. Fabulously expensive as well but a wonderful experience.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fabulous. EverythingFood was fabulous. Everything from the choice of breads to the dessert was outstanding. We ordered off of the pre-fix theater menu and it was no compromise. I had the steak, which was cooked perfectly. Portion size was large enough that I could not finish it. My companion had the fish (salmon?) which she loved. Again, portion size was spot on. Dessert was amazing. We ordered both the chocolate and the pear tarte and both agreed the pear tarte was the superior choice. It tasted like it came right out of a Parisian patiserrie!
Ambiance was just OK. We were in a back room which was quiet but windowless and away from the action. I feared that we pre-fixers were bannished but still service was impeccible.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous! Best of the bunchFabulous! Best of the bunch of restaurants visited in our week in New York. Food, environment & service all outstanding!!?3/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
