A word from Aureole - Liberty Room
Charlie Palmer's signature Progressive American cuisine first took root in the original townhouse location of Aureole, where the chef made an early commitment to farm over factory food. Today, Aureole continues to shine at One Bryant Park under the kitchen leadership of Executive Chef Marcus Gleadow-Ware. Dining at the contemporary Aureole is staged in two venues: the formal dining room and more casual Liberty Room.

Designed with modern conviviality in mind, the smart, casual Liberty Room offers a la carte access to many selections that share the same style and ingredients as tasting menu dishes from the Dining Room. Enjoy a glass of wine al fresco and choose from our extensive list of roses and sparkling wines by the glass on The Patio.

Reservations can be made here for the Liberty Room only.

Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner in the bar room was spectacular. We were going to a concert so didn't need a full-course dinner in the restaurant. The pre-theater dinner had the best selections on the menu and we also ordered ala carte. The wine list was exceptional and the sommalier took alot of time to introduce us to their wines. She was very professional as she prepared the bottle for decanting as well. The food was outstanding and service was even better! The staff asked what time we needed to leave and were very attentive."

  • "Tables too close together detracted substantially from an otherwise excellent experience. Food is very good, room is beautiful, service professional and friendly, but our table for two was so close to the one next to us that their conversation could not help but hinder ours. Not the case with all tables but most of the 2-tops are way too close"

  • "We had an early dinner at Aureole's Bar before the show and could not have been happier. The three course dinner was perfect. From the asparagus salad to the NY strip and the creme brûlée with chocolate gelato, the entire meal was delicious and delightful. They have a very nice selection of wines by the glass and an impressively diverse wine list. The service was spot on and allowed for a relaxing meal while getting to the theater with plenty of time to spare. Aureoles is on the south side of The Sondheim Theater. Finding a good meal in Times Square can be challenging, but Aureoles is the exception and definitely worth a visit."

  • "Dined here recently. Native NYers who done out a lot. Go back to This restaurant when it was amazing and located in the 60's. Foud was lackluster...over done and served cold. Management seemed to be inexperienced. Won't be returning."

  • "I recommend Aureole for an excellent, upscale lunch. I got the lobster bisque which was oustanding. Our server was exceptional: helpful and knowledgeable."

  • "I went here pre-theater and the appetizer was served right on time and then the entree came 30 minutes later. I asked the waitress and she said she realized that and had already inquired and that is should be out in 1-2 minutes. It came out about 8 minutes later. We had to rush through it and down dessert and then rush to the theater. I got the manager when after we had waited so long and he should of circled back around. It was disappointing to have to pay that and not enjoy the meal. They said we could come back after the show for dessert, but that wasn't an option for us at the time."

  • "Great food in more casual environment. Particularly good place if dining alone. The food is top quality and the wine list has an excellent and varied selection. Really cannot go wrong with any dish on the menu. Salmon is as good as it gets."

  • "Amazing food, very good location (near Times Square). highly recommended for couples and groups."

  • "Had to watch advertisements on Big Screen across the street for entire meal. Very distracting. Only affects a few tables but if one is yours, watch out. They have a screen up on the windows, but it doesn't block it out. Wine by the glass is way overpriced."
    Dined on 3/25/2014
  • "There was a problem with every course. They did not bring one of the appetizers until we pursued it, salmon sent back not cooked to request and served to wrong person. Coffee didn't come until after dessert and the check, when we were ready to leave. It was hard to get anyone to help us during the meal."

  • "Went with family and loved it. 42nd Street location is BUSY! Came at reservation time and theater crowd was leaving...noise level was perfect after that. Everyone at our table got a different appetizer and entrée and all were great. Service and wine list were excellent. Bar Room dining experience was great!"

  • "I have been here 3 times now. They always remember me from the last time, the sign of people who care about the details. We sat in the main room, not the bar room and got really fine and exquisite service. The meal was really delicious, as well. Buttery swordfish on pea puree. The chocolate tart was to die for."

  • "The food was good but not WOW. The Tuna Tartare was amazing though. The service was average for this sort of restaurant."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "While the food was good the noise level was much too high, had to raise my voice to be heard by my dinner partner sitting across from me and we are not hard of hearing. The noise level made it an unpleasant experience"

  • "Food and service in the bar are very good, but they pack you so tight and the bar is 2 deep right behind you, so conversations are not happening unless you join the one next to you. Fine for "eat and run" before a show, but go into the intimate dining room to truly savor this kitchen's awesome talents."

  • "Food was good, but not great. Glad we tried it during restaurant week, because I would have been extremely unsatisfied had I paid their regular prices for the meal I had. Nothing was bad, but nothing was memorable either. The service was more befitting of a diner than a four star restaurant. We had to flag down wait staff to get any attention and the attention we got was minimal. Overall, a very mediocre experience. Not likely to return when there are so many better options in the City."

  • "This was my 3rd time visiting. The first two times were great! Attentive services and delicious meals, vastly different from our experience during RW.Okay I get it, RW menu is not in the same price range, but it is the chef's opportunity to showcase their skills in a more moderate price point. Why serve something so different from the regular menu that the guests won't return again? 1) Fluke tartar: Fish by itself w/out the sauce was a bit bland. 2) Cavatelli Pasta: Nothing special. 3) Grilled veal chop: this dish took me by surprise (IN A BAD WAY). I was expecting a clean grilled veal chop with vegetable on the side, but the meat was IMMERSED in the sauce. I am sad to say that the Austrian riesling we got WAS the highlight of the night."

  • "We went for restaurant week. The server was very professional. The quality of the food was pretty good, execution was mixed. We had the fluke tartar, it was excellent, the cavattini was not very good, it lacked seasoning and pasta was overcooked. For main dishes, the cod was perfectly cooked but lacked flavor, the veal chop was not well cooked, the fava beans had no flavor. The chocolate dessert was pretty good. Overall, highend quality of service and food, poor execution."

  • "Our group of 8 arrived at our reservation time (I believe 5 PM, maybe 5:15). Our theater, about 3 blocks away started at 7, so we needed to leave at 6:40. It took nearly 20 minutes to get seated and place our orders. Our appetizers came out at 6:00, and our entrees at 6:15. We mostly ordered from the pre-theater price fixed menu. We had to down our meal so quickly, that we didn't have time to enjoy it. With our price fixe menu, came dessert which came out at 6:30. If the service was prompt, there would have been adequate time to enjoy our dinner. Poor service contributed to a rushed meal and anxiety about getting to the theater on time. I don't recommend it."

  • "The Aureole Bar Room is great for pre-theater dining. The food is delicious and they know how to get you in an out before the show. I do very much miss the Aureole town house of years past. Its far from that but it does what it does very well."

  • "Always a great meal, excellent service, outstanding every time I go."

  • "I was awestruck at the hospitality of the staff. Every one was polite, professional and courteous. I arrived a little early, was seated right away and had my order taken accurately. The lighting was exquisite. The bussers and the waiter(?), not sure if that is what they are called, were very informative and attentive. The food was superb, not overwhelming. The first, main and dessert courses were evenly spaced out and came on time. I never felt like I had to sit at wait for the next coursee. I loved my solo dining experience. Keep up the excellent service."

  • "The restaurant week menu was very good. The fluke tartare and the cod were both delicious, but I was not crazy about the panna cotta. Service is excellent."

  • "We were very disappointed with our meal during the New York Restaurant Week. Especially the main course was badly cooked. We had grilled veal chops which were both tasteless and overcooked and still not tender. The starters and desserts were fine."

  • "The Aureole Bar Room was spacious and wonderfully quiet, meeting my request. The food was both well prepared , served, and consumed with verve. My favorite dish was Fluke tarter, one I will remember for its perfection of flavors."

  • "We have eaten at Aureole many times but this time the food was disappointing. The entrees were ok, selection limited and the desserts were hardly noteworthy. The restaurant now just seems overpriced and we all left hungry. I think my daughter had three scallops in her entree. We won't hurry back."

  • "My husband is on a unique diet not including dairy and they were great about adapting the dishes and serving him a fruit platter instead of serving him a dessert he wouldn't it. The special occasion was a birthday and they helped make it special. I hadn't been to their new location and would certainly go again."

  • "We enjoyed our Restaurant Week meal here - and the service was just outstanding, treating us RW customers with generosity and pride. The food was fine overall, although we could quibble about slightly overcooked cod and cavatelli that tended to clump (and where was that guanciale, actually?). But the flavors were delicious, the portions perfect, and the wines by the glass were reasonable and expansive. We had a lovely, unhurried meal in spite of its being prime time in the theatre district. We will be back!"

  • "Since we were there for a restaurant week, I think our waiter wasn't happy with us. Also we didn't order any drinks. However, food was excellent and we enjoyed it very much. Since we work very close, it is a major plus."

  • "We went there for the pre theater dinner. It was a great value, the restaurant is gorgeous and the servers were great at timing everything so we could sit and enjoy our meal. I would highly recommend this as an option for people looking for a nice spot before the show, be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to eat slowly and really enjoy the meal!"

  • "I went for a birthday celebration during restaurant week and we had a great time. Food was good and service was great. I wasn't very impressed by the prix-fixe menu options, but the a la carte menu looked good, I may need to try it some time."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "If you want to eat like an adult and not be packed in like a tourist trap cattle call in the Theater District this is the place to go. The service and the food as well as the ambiance are all top shelf. If you are looking for gooey, cheesy, and obscene proportions this is not yo yr place. This is what fine dining is about ( or used to be about). The service is quite professional and charming and the food was prepared expertly and with great flavor. You can carry on a conversation with your date with out yelling above the crowd noise."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "Food, service, wine and location all combine for great dining. Although I still miss the ambience of their old uptown location, I can't think of a single other thing I would change."

  • "We had dined at Aureole several times and greatly enjoyed. Bar Aureole was equally delicious, with wonderful service and a terrific menu. We will go back for sure!"

  • "I went to the original Aureole about 15 years ago and was floored with the food and the top notch service. The new Arueole still has amazing food but the service is just like that of other restaurants. The place now has a well designed modern loft feel in a prime location. However I miss the days of the quaint, private Aureole. In spite of all that I still highly recommend it. The food is outstanding."

  • "We reserved a table in the Bar room for restaurant week. We anticipated a crowded noisy experience, but were so surprised when we were led to a very elegant dining room behind the main room. From start to finish, everything was wonderful! The staff were spot on but not intrusive. The pacing was perfect. The food was delicious and very plentiful for restaurant week. Due to some health issues, I asked for sorbet instead of the luscious desserts. My request was granted very elegantly. I was provided with six small scoops of different flavored sorbets presented in an escargot plate! It was delicious and beautifully presented. When the bill arrived, we assumed that we would be charged extra for the dessert. Not at all. Great dinner."
