A word from Aureole - Liberty Room
Charlie Palmer's signature Progressive American cuisine first took root in the original townhouse location of Aureole, where the chef made an early commitment to farm over factory food. Today, Aureole continues to shine at One Bryant Park under the kitchen leadership of Executive Chef Marcus Gleadow-Ware. Dining at the contemporary Aureole is staged in two venues: the formal dining room and more casual Liberty Room.

Designed with modern conviviality in mind, the smart, casual Liberty Room offers a la carte access to many selections that share the same style and ingredients as tasting menu dishes from the Dining Room. Enjoy a glass of wine al fresco and choose from our extensive list of roses and sparkling wines by the glass on The Patio.

Reservations can be made here for the Liberty Room only.

Aureole is a wonderful experience whether you are in the Dining Room or The Liberty Room (bar). We see about 20 Broadway plays a year and have searched the Theater District/Times Square for "the" place to have dinner before the theater. The search is over. We have stopped trying to find anything better than Aureole. It does not exist. The atmosphere, the impeccable service, the truly delicious food and an impressive wine list all combined in a convenient location to get to the theater without feeling rushed, makes Aureole our pre-theater choice.

Great food, but it is unbelievable that they cannot adequately cover the windows that face the glaring Times Square lights. The billboards light up the faces of the guests (literally). We asked if they could lower the translucent curtains they have (which may or not have worked), but they said they could not. Picture eating dinner while your guests faces light up like they are watching a fireworks show. Great food and an amazing wine list/selection of single malt scotch - strange that one of NYC's top restaurants cannot figure out something as simple as curtains though.

Walked in at 6:15 and got seated right away since we had a reservation at 6:30. Plenty of open tables. The hostess gave us each a food menu. Didn't see our waiter until about 6:45 and that is after we asked another waiter to take our order. When our waiter finally came over, he took another 5 minutes to give us a drink menu. And another 10 minutes to come back and take our drink order. By then we were already thirsty so we picked a random bottle of cabernet. We didn't wait that long to get our glasses filled. Food was good. Appetizers: two salads, a foie gras and a tuna tartare. All excellent. Dinner: burger, chicken, salmon and sea bass. All were excellent as well. This restaurant is for people who have a lot of time to waste.

  • Noisy with Blinding Light Across St
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 11/4/2014
Although we have enjoyed eating at Aureole-Liberty Room twice before, we do not plan to return based on our most recent, unsatisfactory visit. Aside from the unacceptably loud noise level, there is now a full-size lighted billboard across 42 St which blinded everyone facing the street; and the staff, incl. the maitre d' claimed it was not possible to lower the blinds further. Also, despite the fact that our server was aware that we had to meet a certain curtain time, we sat with nothing in front of us for at least ten minutes; we finally had to ask him about our entree, which was only warm when it arrived. (It had probably sat in the kitchen cooling off while he -- and we -- waited.)

  • Very Disappointing Dinner

I had expected much more from The Liberty Room. The ambience is poor - noisy, bright, unpleasant. It felt more like a diner than a dining experience. The service from at best fair, a mixture of too cloying and too slow. The food was quite tasty, but very highly priced. Overall, I will not return. NYC offers much better choices for similar price ranges.

Seemed like it would be great choice for pre-theater dining on a Tuesday night. Pre Fix Theater menu was limited with some nice choices. Food was very good but the noise level in the Liberty Room was out of control. Seems like lots of people were able to get a head start at the bar by leaving work early.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this spot hidden among the chain restaurants and mediocre italian options in the Times Square/Broadway area. I needed a spot for a pre-theatre dinner and this ended up being perfect. Their prix fixe menu was interesting, delicious, and very efficiently served (all three courses). Our waiter was very attentive and sensitive to our time constraints (he asked immediately after we sat down). The cocktails were a little pricey but unusual and quite tasty. Overall it was a very enjoyable meal!

We ate at Aureole for a restaurant week dinner. The restaurant week menu was not meant to impress. The only part of the meal which was better than average was the chocolate cake. The biggest problem that I had was the intense noise from the bar. It was so loud that I could barely have a conversation with my husband across the table. The other thing is that the waiter did not seem to be available when needed. I would not go back and I would not recommend it to others.

Four of us dining on Restaurant week were provided with the same menu for dinner at $38 that we could have gotten for lunch at $25. That could not be because the portions were larger at dinner, as except for the main course, the other courses were tiny. The roast chicken and the cod-fish cake were good. The vegetable risotto was watery and tasteless, and we left that over. The manager gave us a $14 credit when we mentioned this to the waiter. I refer to the gazpacho and (lack of) cinnamon flavored tiny fruit salad. The restaurant was over booked which accounted for the inability of the wait staff to addend to us well. The noise was so loud we and all around us were shouting to be heard. Restaurant Week is to intice returns. Not us.

The food tastes really good, especially the deserts. One caveat is the the portion of the entree is pretty big. However the service definitely needed improving. nice mood from great interior, but the food isn't enough to give that quality level as well. Feel like waiters were pick on the street. Importantly, the food was like anything on the deli. I lived close by Aureole so I choose it to be my first restaurant-week spot. They didn't let me down. The bread and the soup was phenomenal. The main courses that we relished was such a refresh for summer. The dessert, chocolate cake was extraordinarily rich and tasty but not overly done! Started at the bar where the bartender ladies were not exactly friendly. Had to ask twice for a glass of water (had already ordered a glass of wine). When we were seated, we were told we were getting a nice side-by-side table. In reality we were facing a large pillar. The right thing to do would have been to show us the seating and ask if we were fine with it?!!! On the plus side the food was very very good. Not exceptional, but very good. Btw. Glass of wine at the bar came to $21 with tip and tax!
