A friend and I won a gift card to this restaurant. We had heard it was good, and now we had a chance to try it. Not only was the food amazing, but the all the staff were so pleasant. We were notably the youngest people in the restaurant, yet still given the same care that the other patrons were given. If you happen to head to Aura this winter check out there scallop appetizer... hands down the best scallops in town, prepared perfectly in a beautiful chestnut sauce with kale and bacon.... perfection !

The deep fried sushi was excellent. The pork entrée left a bit to be desired - croquette was dry; the plate was unimaginative with little variety of colour. The lamb was tasty, and the chocolate brownie was very good. While eating our entrée, the smell of 'past its prime' fish permeated the room, a little off-putting. Unfortunately, a nearby family allowed their 2-year-old girl to run around the restaurant, screaming at the top of her lungs. Service by Suzanne was excellent; she was most helpful and informative.

I didn't care for the menu - it was limited in terms of selection. Also the food was not fabulous. My sister enjoyed her meal very much but two others at the table found it merely Ok, not great. However, a friend ate there recently - on three occasions - and loved it.

The location is secluded but allows a great view of the harbour. The staff (Susanne) is friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The food is creative and tasty. The Asian influence offers some new twists on old favourites. We enjoyed the duck breast and a novel pork presentation (and all plates were finished). It is one of our Victoria Top 5 restaurants

Casual atmosphere, exceptional food and service. The kind of food and service one would expect in an upscale, white tablecloth restaurant in a large city, but few of them could match the food and personalized and attentive service here. Everything we had - luscious grilled halibut, delicious blackened snapper, tender-crisp veggies, inspired homemade bread - was perfectly prepared and sublimely delicious. I am very critical of seafood preparation, but Schooner exceeded my expectations. Mind-blowing dessert: maple bacon cheesecake SMOKED in their grill, topped with a whole piece of candied bacon. Very creative and original, absolutely delicious, perfect for the bacon lover. I want to go back and try the whole menu. The chef is a genius.

What an amazing evening to bring to a close our annual visit to Victoria! Amazing food from start to finish--the appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts were all delicious. Each of the four of us ordered different food items and, of course, everyone had to try everyone else's food selection. Everything was delicious, and the wine selection, cocktail selections and service were excellent. The staff were welcoming and friendly, as well as knowledgeable. What a fun evening full of exceptional food and drink. Definitely on our "to do" list for next year.

  • Both excellent & disappointing...
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014
    Dined on 9/19/2014
Setting is spectacular; atmosphere casual but elegant; service very good. Food beautifully-presented, but in our case, inconsistent. Deep-fried sushi appetizer outstanding; calamari excellent & unusual; scallops a real disappointment (nicely presented, but lacking flavour interest). Lamb main also outstanding & paired well with Merlot, but halibut was overcooked, and with the squid-ink infused rice cubes, bland enough to be overpowered by a Sauvignon Blanc from Marlboro). Ice creme sandwich also outstanding with a Calvados. Real potential here for an excellent dining experience, which I am sure is frequently met... but the mark was not hit in all our dishes and, at this price point, probably should be. Will go again.

Aura is a gem in a neighbourhood right outside downtown. One of the best harbour views in the city with a great outdoor, heated patio. Exceptional food and friendly service. Staff went out of the way to make our anniversary dinner special. Recommend the cheese plate for an appetizer or dessert - impressive variety of cheeses, breads, fruit and condiments. Entree portions are the perfect size. Creative vegetarian entree offered. We will visit again for sure.

Located on the bay. Floor to ceiling glass for outstanding view. Our waiter Simon was friendly and attentive. We shared the grilled calamari and the deep fried sushi appetizers on the advice of the restaurant manager. Neither was as we had expected and both were excellent. My wife had the duck as a main course and I had the steelhead trout. Again, both were excellent. For dessert we shared chocolate forte. We'd be happy to return.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal on the patio on a warm summer day. The appetizers were spectacularly presented and delicious -- especially the unusual sushi dish. The two beef tenderloins were both rare -- as ordered -- and were much enjoyed. The trout came medium as announced and was also of excellent quality.

  • Rude maître d' - go elsewhere

    Dined on 8/25/2014
The food here was good; however, we ordered the lamb and there were mushrooms in the dish that were not listed in the menu. My husband is very allergic to mushrooms. When we notified the waitress, the maître d' came over and argued that the menu said there were mushrooms. We looked again at the menu and no mushrooms were listed. Having been shown to be wrong, the maître d then continued to argue in a rude tone that we should have disclosed the allergy (even though there was no indication that mushrooms were in the dish in an otherwise very detailed dish description). We told him we disagreed and they should be listed on the menu. He continued to tell us we were wrong and that it was our fault. Apparently the customer is not right here.

This was a thoroughly fine dining experience, with a gorgeous view. The food was carefully created, creatively plated, and even the Chef himself came to say hello. It says a lot when the sides of an entree are as exciting as the protein itself! The Steelhead Trout is absolutely not-to-be-missed. The duck breast was the best I've had because it was sweet, light, and perfectly cooked. The deep fried sushi is an experience, and the desserts made it all worth it. Do not miss this restaurant.

We had lunch here on a recent visit to Victoria and it got our trip off to a great start. The view from the patio is of the inner harbor area, along with the Empress Hotel, many float planes, harbor taxis, whale-watching boats, and ferries. And the food was very good- a double cheese grilled sandwich was very tasty. It's a nice place to have lunch and get some of the harbor ambience. Recommended!

My wife and I went here for her birthday and right after checking in, they wished her a happy birthday. So from the start they were already showing good service. We had a nice table with a great view by the windows. It's too bad it was a bit cloudy that day. The waitress was very attentive and we didn't have to wait long for our appetizers or our main courses. We also asked her to take a few photos of us, which she did and jokingly referred to her as her "second job" there at the restaurant. The food was excellent and very artistically designed. In particular the lamb and chocolate brownie (not eaten at the same time, of course) were fantastic. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this place and I'm sure my wife and I will come back.

Happened upon Aura while planning a trip to Victoria. So glad we took the chance! The food was outstanding -- interesting ingredients without being overly exotic, and great presentation, with something on the menu for every taste or food preference. There were 3 in our party and we were pleased with every dish, from appetizers, through to mains and desserts. Fantastic BC wines. And the best oysters I've had anywhere. Service was equally outstanding. Highly recommend Aura and would definitely return.

We very much liked the dining room setting, the view of the outdoors, and the quiet ambience that allowed us to renew our friendship with our neighbours from Arizona. The food at Aura was very good! The duck dish was amazing and my husband really enjoyed the halibut. The flour-less brownie was a wonderful way to finish off our dining experience. We ordered drinks and said we'd wait to order our dinner. We thought our waitperson had forgotten about us as she didn't check in on us for a very long time! She was very nice but seemed a little timid to begin with.

Our appetizers and soup were outstanding--very creative presentations and great flavor. However, some of our entrees must have gotten left on a warming tray--the halibut was just too dry to eat. The fortunate ones who ordered duck were very pleased. We had difficulty getting our waiters attention through the entire meal. That may have contributed to the dry fish. The location is interesting, in a hotel but on the harbor also an easy walk from both cruise pier or downtown.

Aura is exactly what you'd expect from a top restaurant with a great menu and great service. The patio dining on a clear evening in the summer can't be beat. Food choices were select and all well prepared and beautifully presented. The waiter was knowledgable, friendly, but not intrusive. The tables are not too close as to feel you are being overheard or crowding other diners. Can't think of a reason not to come here everytime we visit Victoria. Also for gluten free diners this was heaven as it had virtually everything on the menu that could be prepared wheat-free. A diner's delight.
