  • "The food and service were really good; however, the murals on the wall were really odd. Not sure how they were to relate to the amibiance that Augies was trying to create."

  • "Reserve an early time for Augie's - you'll need it to thoroughly study their cornucopia of wines, cocktails, and dishes. The atmosphere is energetic but not clamorous; food quality top notch. It doesn't come cheap but is well worth the price. The only shortcoming is being closed on Sunday. "

  • "Service was nice, but the food was a little dissappointing for the price"

  • "Our 6:45p reservation got us our table at 7:10p. Place was crowded and extremely noisy. There were five of us and conversation amongst us was impossible the entire time we were there. My beef ribs were tough and flavorless. Disappointment since previous meals there, for lunch, were very good. The shining star at dinner was our server. She was superb. Do not remember her name."

  • "Enjoyed eating outdoors with nice view of Old State Capitol building. Fifth street is a little busy but entertaining as well"

  • "The waiter wouldn't explain anything, even when asked questions he gave answers that didn't make sense. Even when called out on incorrect information was when he would ask a second time and only then did the answer make sense. The food was cold and not appetizing at all. Even the dessert appeared to be leftovers re-plated as though that was a real dessert. Not at all a place I would ever go to had I not been given raving reviews of this place. Major disappointment and will never go back, ever. "

  • "We liked the food at Augies. Unfortunately, our waiter seemed to be preoccupied and did not detail the specials the first few times he talked with us, or we would have ordered different beverages. He also disappeared for long periods, during which none of the other wait staff bothered to check on us. As it was, the cocktails seemed be pedestrian, and I feel that the Martini was served in an iced tea glass with the special "tea" containing limoncello in the martini glass. The wine list had some interesting selections,. There was a great discrepancy with the volume of the pour for the white vs red wine. Why bother to have a nice by the glass selection and then stiff the white wine drinkers by using such a small serving glass. "

  • "I like coming to Augie's... I like the ambiance, it's a festive atmophere...but I have to say, they don't know how to cook a burger. If you say "medium" it comes raw...then you send it back, it's just warmer, but same red-ness...then you send it back again and they cook it until it's dry. I mean come on; some kind of joke? Waiter was nice enough, but the experience was so weird. This is the second time this has happened. Not getting the burger again..."

  • "Our meals had mediocre ingredients, inaccurately prepared. An adjacent diner his entree back and left the restaurant. Truly awful evening."

  • "We have visited Springfield a couple of times. Augie's is always on the list. Lobster Bisque is great. Caesar Salad is garlicky and crisp. The potato encrusted cod was so fresh and perfectly cooked. Don't hesitate to dine at Augie's when you are in Springfield."

  • "Waiter, Matt, was very friendly, attentive and just plain fun. Food was excellent and well-presented. Only issues: a bit over-priced; single glass of wine way over-priced compared to most restaurants."

  • "Yes, we all shared an appetizer (crab cakes). Each of us had a different entree. The food was excellent and served nicely. For the quality the price was right. We plan to return soon."

  • "Our dinner was nice. Crab cakes were cold. Entrees could have been warmer as well. Good variety. Casual and friendly"

  • "New to the area, I chose Augie's for my first Valentine's out with my wife of 24 years. I'm a chef who always works on Valentine's Day and every other holiday, so I wanted somewhere memorable. I searched online for the right place and found Augie's Front Burner. Great atmosphere, professional servers, nice wine list and food created to entice the eyes as well as the palate. Nice glass of Zinfandel to start. We split the Crab Cakes to start. Lump meat prevalent. 3 cakes with chef made sauce & garnish. Served hot, they were delicious. Next roasted Kale and 2 Beet Salad with deep fried Egg. Light, colorful, flavorful and a fresh twist for salad. She Salmon, I Asian duck,- again, flavorful, elegant. Couldn't have picked a better experience"

  • "Went as a couple. Ordered the salmon for me and the roasted chicken for guest. Both were wonderful. The service was outstanding. Dessert was Lemon cake, very good but a little cold. We both had goat cheese salad which was tasty. They have a chaning and always interesting menu."

  • "We attended Saturday night 2/15 for valentines day. A special menu was provided for valentines day. We had soup and salad, bacon wrapped shrimp skewers, and both got the grass fed filet. Great food as always. The server didn't read us the specials before we ordered. Everything else was great."

  • "First time i was here was on a busy saturday night and service was poor, extremely slow, food pricey, dishes more artsy rather than tasty. So i was hesitant to go again. However, a group of friends and i braved the subzero temps and went on a thursday night for the $12.99 special. What we got was delicious! We had a choice of entrees. I had the sweet and sour chicken thighs served with rice and broccoli. Others in my group had the crispy red snapper or pork tenderloin. Everyone raved about their food. Portion size was decent, nothing huge, but we were also given fresh baked rolls and Caesar salads. To top off the three- course dinner, a chocolate caramel trifle!"

  • "This place was so good, we went there twice in our 3 days in Springfield. The first time, we had the “Thrifty Thursdays” special, a three-course meal for $12.99. There is a salad, then a choice of entrees (we both had the stroganoff, with tender beef, fresh-cooked mushrooms, a dollop of crème fraîche, and a thin-sliced pickle), then a dessert (peach and blueberry parfait). It was all good-to-delicious, and very good value. We liked it so much we ate there again two evenings later. They welcomed us as repeat customers. Husband had the half duckling with oriental vegetables, and I had a soup-and-salad meal (served at the same time as Hubby's entree). For the quality, the price was very reasonable, and the service attentive and friendly."

  • "Love their quality of service and creativity in meal selection."

  • "Hard to pass up the steaks at Augies. The flatbread appetizer was outstanding as well. Augie has clearly found a job he loves and he shares that passion and creativity with his patrons. When the executives come to town for business, it's the place they want to go."

  • "Everything was wonderful. We celebrated our 39th anniversay. The only prfoblem was a party of about 12 could not refrain from making a great deal of noise."
    Dined on 12/7/2013
  • "need to allow plenty of time for dining as service is a little slow, so not the best place to go if you have plans after dinner"

  • "Augie pulled out all the stops and offered a memorable dinner ala Charlie Trotter."
    Dined on 11/16/2013
  • "On our arrival at Augie’s the four of us were greeted by 2 friendly staff and were taken directly to our table. The atmosphere and décor is warm, vibrant, exciting and the aromas sensually enticing. The signature cocktail and wine lists were as to be expected, extensive. The wine list had far ranging regions, varietals and prices ranging from comfortable to uncomfortable. It even helped that Matt gave us a sample of a few wines as we were undecided on a few of them. A “special tribute 5 course dinner in honor of Charlie Trotter” was being offered and that a ‘slightly narrowed’ regular menu would also be available to us. OMG, the sauces that accompanied each dish. Way too many flavors and complexities to detail here."

  • "This was my first experience with Auguies. I tried the Jazz Musician featured 5 course meal. I had not tasted most of the food in the entrees but wanted to try something new. Everything was great except for the 3rd course. I just didn't like the taste. The ambiance was great and my waiter, Matt was awesome! The prices are reasonable for what you get. I do not mind paying a little extra for great food, great service and a great atmosphere. I will be back in 3 weeks to bring my girlfriends."

  • "This restaurant was perfect for our small group of women! Creative and delicious combinations that was healthy too! Great wine list! We had a time constraint and the staff was prompt and we felt well cared for! All of the entrees were fresh and tender from the filet to trout, organic chicken to the spare ribs! They used all the fall veggies in creative combinations that was perfect for the final touch ! Only problem, we didn't hae enough time for any dessert! Next time, for sure!"

  • "Outstanding is the word that comes to mind during our recent visit to Augies. Matt was great and took care of all our needs and provided suggestions for us to try. The food is always great and the spacing of the meal is perfect. and I can't to return again!"

  • "I would have to say that Augie's Front Burner has probably the best food and service in central Illinois. Being my first time there they definitely noticed and treated me and my date as if we were royalty. They gave us a complimentary appetizer dish while we waited for our food and it was only a taste of what was to come in the entrée. I had the Salmon and it was seared and seasoned to perfection and my date had the duck that was out of this world. The service was amazing and they were on top of everything, my drink was refilled continuously and we were checked up on to see if we needed anything. Last to mention is the price. For a five star restaurant it was extremely reasonable. I recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "Everything was fantastic except one entree. The short ribs were awful. dry, hard and stringy. They were ordered due to reviews saying they were a house specialty and so great. Everything else was given high marks by the diners. Waiter, Gabe, was outstanding."

  • "Excellent fresh food fairly priced for a top end restaurant. Flavorful and meticulously prepared. Wonderful attentive service without annoying hovering. Hardest working busboy in the city. Staff seemed very happy with their jobs...a very good sign around food."
    Dined on 9/26/2013
  • "The entrees were quite good; however, I had the lobster bisque, and it had no lobster flavor whatsoever. In fact, it tasted like it came out of a can. We both ordered dessert, apple crisp. What we got was cooked apples with uncooked oats on top, covered in sweet sauce. The flavor was good, but there was nothing crisp about it. I did not expect breakfast cereal in a dessert. Overall, we might go back, but the bisque and desserts need improvement."

  • "This was our first visit to Springfield and Augies -- and both were fabulous! Mu husband had the NY Strip - outstanding! I had the pork chop - incredible!! And our waiter, Gabe, was professional and friendly at the same time. We finished with a slice of carrot cake - oh my gosh, great! Will definitely be back the next time we visit the area!"

  • "Augie's is always excellent! The wait staff, hostess and bussers are all professional, personable and attentive. The food is always excellent and the presentation is first class all the way, especially for the price range. If you support local growers and farmers their approach is totally in tune with that work as well as they always featue local vendors. We love the restaurant and appreciate the attention we always receive!!"
