  • The view at this restaurant
    OpenTable Diner Since 2002VIP

The view at this restaurant is amazing especially in the spring or fall. If you can sit on the back terrace area it is worth it. The food is amazing and the service was good - just a little stuffy. The only complaint that I have with this restaurant is we were heading to the restaurant and we called to let them know that we were going to be a few minutes late. The hostess informed me that if we were more then I believe 10 minutes late (we were going to be 15 minutes late for a 5:30 reservation)we would loose the terrace table. I thought that was bad form - I called to say where we were and that we would be late and they were very rude about it! Thank god our friends showed up in time! I can understand if we did not call! not impressed

Auberge du Soliel is a special place and perfect for a special occasion. I am a chauffer and have taken clients there many times in the past. My wife and I were celebrating our 46th anniversary and so it truly was the perfect place for that occasion. The food was outstanding the ambiance outstanding service oustanding the wine we selected outstanding and affordable. Overall it was a perfect afternoon and evening.

A beautiful setting and worth the drive to get here. With the setting sun and a glass of champagne on the terrace, this was memorable. I feel it's a shame I am marking the scores down but a place of this quality and reputation has to get everything right. We went for the tasting menu. My partner is not a big eater, I on the other hand can demolish most dishes that come my way. However the portion size of the dishes on the tasting menu were simply too large. With a meat heavy menu (I love that!) the chef really needs to moderate the size of the portions. One of the talents in putting a tasting menu together is the overall experience, the way the dishes fit together and getting the quantity right so as to satisfy not stuff.

    Dined on 8/9/2008
Our third visit for lunch was as thoroughly pleasant as the first. Yes, the prices do seem to keep going up, but with the views, outstanding food and attentive service it seems an afterthought. Celebrated our daughters college graduation in Napa and her choice for lunch the 5 days we were there was Auberege du Soleil (we had taken her there 5 years ago on a day trip). On the plate of her dessert was "Congratulations" written in chocolate and our server offered a genuine and heartfelt congratulations. We look forward to going back to Auberge du Soleil to celebrate her Masters in a few years (or sooner!)and happily recommend it.

The food was excellent and the service once the servers figured out who our table belonged to was okay. However, the table we were placed at was absolutely awful. It was a 4-top (there were 2 of us), it was right next to a door where waitstaff and sommliers, etc passed back and forth, sometimes even rubbing their booty on the table edge! When I complained the maitres de said that it was because of the time we ate (2pm). There were several empty douces when we were seated. This was totally unacceptable on the maitres de part. I will never, in spite of the food, recommend this restaurant--formerly a favorite for special occasions and bringing visitors again.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

Went there for my husband's bday and we loved it! While the food was stellar -- what you would expect for a $98 four course prix fixe, the view was amazing. The restaurant sits atop a hill overlooking Napa Valley so sit on the terrace. I'd recommend the lobster appetizer, the salmon and then the foie gras ravioli and veal. My husband chose the lamb entree. I liked my entree better than his. We had wines by the glass to sample. While they recommended the most expensive ones, there were alternatives. Since we were sharing the cheese and chocolate dumplings for dessert, the waitress thoughtfully recommended having the cheese plate first with our wine. It took a little long to bring it out so she topped off our glasses - a lovely touch!

This was my third time here, but now they only have a fixed 4 course menu and the wine list is expensive. If you can get a terrace table the view is wonderful, but having gone to Etiole at Domaine Chandon the evening before I felt it was a repeat performance with an entorage of waiters delivering pieces of your courses(even the plates were the same non-descript white odd shapes). We should only have done 1 of the 2 and I would have chosen Etoile because they have the Chandon wines at the same price as the winery. And I believe they also have an a la carte menu (which I wish I had been told).

    1) There was a wedding downstairs from where the music, band, and ceremony drifted up and was a little noisy, but I don't know what they can do about that? 2) We were seated next to a table of 4 (including 1 woman!) doing business, using FOUL language the entire 4 hours. We asked them several times to stop the "F-bombs". Management became aware of this toward the end of the meal. The group was asked to cooperate, then they also offered to re-seat us at a new table. It was, however, too late for this. The Restaurant Manager, Jonathan Oakes, was very gracious and courteous in trying to handle the situation! 3) On balance the food was superb, except the gnocchi was undercooked and doughy.

We had a marvelous time and the food was superb as always. We were a bit disappointed in their change of dressing attire. We have dined there in the past while visiting the Valley and were always required to dress with a jacket and tie. We were disappointed to see that this has gone by the way with some people in jeans and golf shirts. It takes a bit away from the upscale feel that was present in the past. The wait staff as always was very attentive, however on this visit it seemed that the dinning room was alive with the help, very busy moving about. Perhaps this was the placement of our table but it always seemed that things were in motion. It's still a wonderful experiance.
