  • "Je crois qu'il est faut d'affirmer que ce délectable restaurant ne répond qu'à l'un des sept péchés capitaux. Il nous en en comblé plus d'un ! Niché dans les dédales bruyants de la St-Denis, même à sa porte, nous remarquons mal le discret restaurant. Dès notre entrées nous fumes entourés de l'ambiance calme et discrète de l'endroit qui prête absolument à l'intente de commettre l'un des péchés qui vous sont offerts. La nourriture y est exquise et les plats sont composés avec soins et réalisé de façon incroyable. Si vous avez un penchant pour les abats, vous serez comblés. Mais vous trouverez également de quoi satisfaire ceux qui tendent dans le plus classique. La cartes des vins est très intéressante, laissez vous conseiller sans gêne."

  • "Unique gastronomical experience. An excellent opportunity to taste french/terroir cuisine made with fine and uncommon ingredients. Very knowledgeable sommelier, would suggest the perfect wine to marry your supper. One of the few places where seal is served, either fresh or in charcuterie. Being not my first time Au Cinquième Péché, I was very pleased how the chef never ceases to surprise his customers. Like last year I had sweetbreads, and it was prepared in a new way with different ingredients. Carrots and hazelnut flavors at different levels go so well with sweetbreads. As always, the service was excellent."

  • "This bistro-like restaurant has a very attractive menu, from comfort-food to more adventurous food. I had the Pumpkin and coconut milk soup and smoked duck ham, followed by Prime cut of beef, braised oxtail, potato purée and Brussels sprouts. Both plates were excellent, though the combination was a bit salty for me. My husband was totally astonished by the Oysters and the fish/seafood he had. Small downside was the noise level (restaurant full and small, hard to hear the server), but we could still hold a private conversation. Decor was very cozy with warm stone walls. Service was flawless (not disturbing, very good advice on food and drinks). Combines excellent quality + quantity and reasonable price for such place. Totally recommend it!"

  • "On mange très bien au Cinquième péché. La cuisine, inventive, nous réserve de belles surprises comme le rocher au foie gras, hommage à celui de Ferrero, qui allie le sucré et le salé d'une façon inusitée. Mon ris de veau, une spécialité de la maison semble-t-il, était également bon, tout comme les légumes qui l'accompagnaient. Vous pouvez faire de belles découvertes à ce restaurant, mais soyez conscient que même si les prix seront ceux d'une très bonne table, l'ambiance est celle d'un petit troquet où l'on mange dans ce qui semble être un sous-sol, serrés près de voisins très rapprochés qui ne manqueront rien de notre conversation s'ils veulent s'y intéresser. Je ne vos recommanderait donc pas d'y aller pour une occasion."

  • "This was my second visit to Au Cinquième Péché and it rocked just like the first time. My first visit was to sample seal meat last year (awesome!) but that's not currently in season right now (not till mid-March and April). Both myself and my dining partner had an incredible meal on this outing - my friend is not at all fond of soup generally but he decided to try the pumpkin and coconut milk soup with confit chestnut and smoked duck ham, and he practically licked the bowl clean. I had the prime cut of beef with braised oxtail, potato purée, and Brussels sprouts and not only was it a gastromic delight to the mouth, but the presentation was tres merveilleux as well. One of the best places to eat in Montréal!"

  • "Une petite salle au plafond bas. Des tables serrées les unes auprès des autres. Un sous-sol avec une fenestration minimaliste. Et pourtant un charme fou et une chaleur qui vous fait oublier l'hiver. On se croirait dans un petit bistrot parisien. La carte est courte mais on y trouve de tout : viandes, poissons, abats et même végétarien. Le choix des ingrédients est assez standard (pas de pieuvre au pamplemousse, garam massala et granité de pivoine) mais la façon de les apprêter est créative. Et surtout, la réalisation est parfaite. Le personnel est efficace et connaît sa carte et ses vins. Les vins, tous bios, proviennent principalement de France. Ici aussi la carte est courte mais le choix est bon et surtout très abordable. 9.8/10"

  • "I went there for the first time with my husband and two girls who are 13 & 10. It was recommended by a friend who is from Montreal and it didn't disappoint. We entered the restaurant and were in an empty room with a bar for 1/2 hour for cocktails and oysters and other delicious passed food. Then we went downstairs and had a 4 course meal. The food was fabulous and the staff made the children so welcome - they were the only children there.It was a wonderful experience and as my friend said, it is a very special place."

  • "Le menu est restreint et lors de notre visite il manquait des items. Un vendredi soir à 21h c'est pas normal que votre dernier risoto ait été servi. Seulement trois choix de desserts nous ont été proposés en restaurant alors qu'il y en avait 6 sur le menu en ligne. On aurait aimé manger une crème brûlé, mais il n'y en avait malheureusement pas. La nourriture était par contre excellente!"

I had the risotto which at most other restaurants is either too salty or too soggy, but this was exceptionally good. My fellow diners loved their beef and duck dishes. The wine list is short but has some very good all private importation wines even at the low end of the list."

  • "Great food and services is generally adequate. But, there is quiet a bit of waiting time, perhaps it's due to the large crowd of customer attracted by the tasting promotion. Needless to say, I'd love to go back, the foie gras mousse is what I die for. The rich and creamy texture yet capture the very essence of the foi gras taste and smell. The main course was also excellent. Duck breast with Gnocchi, but the chef has its way to make the two in such delicate balance that It did not overwhelmed me with the heaviness."

  • "This is a cozy, well-managed restaurant where the chef(s) really know what they are doing. The menu is small (5 appetizers and 5 mains and 4 desserts), and every one is thoughtfully put together. Ingredients are organic, fresh and many are local. ALL the wines are organic and the owners have found such wines from around the world. The staff is very knowledgeable about the food and the wine list, and offer totally unpretentious advice. Our waiter recommended a fabulous red to accompany my beef main and my husband's rabbit main. There are many fine restaurants in Montreal. But if you are in town for a short stay (one or two nights), don't miss this place. You'll have a MUCH nicer experience than you'll have at 'fancier' places."
