Atwood CaféNice and quaint.Warm feel and unique dishes. We sat outside on the small patio and loved it.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent experienceFood, selection, drinks, service all at a very high level. An excellent meal and experience. Would happily return. Pricey drinks about the only negative, food expensive but not beyond expected at a restaurant of this caliber.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAtwood Cafe's Outstanding BrunchI loved the art deco charming elegant decor of this restaurant. The food and service were impeccable. My wife and I partook in the Sunday brunch at Atwood Cafe and enjoyed it immensely. She had the Eggs Benedict with over fried potatoes and I had the Mushroom Burger with Boursin and watercress topped with honey cream fraiche and salad greens delicately tossed with a light vinaigrette. It was superb! I would go back there in a heart beat.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunchInteresting, varied brunch menu. Excellent service. We had a wonderful experience.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPreShow MustWonder staff, amazong food and prompt service. What more can I say? Thanks to the wait staff and kudos to the chef on a delicious menu!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great experienceThis is my regular stopping point whenever I'm in Chicago. Coq au vin and smoked salmon for breakfast were perfect, the hen and risotto were perfect, the bartender did a fabulous job with both custom and standard fare. Be sure to try to mimosa for breakfast and the Syrah for dinner!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMUnexpected GemI looked for a restaurant near the theater that would accommodate a party of 8. The Atwood Cafe was a real find. It's part of an historic hotel with great architecture. The staff was most accommodating and friendly and the food was superb. Good portions, reasonable prices and lots of options. The staff made made me feel special. I'll definitely return.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day Weekend FunI've been wanting to dine at the Atwood Cafe and see the hotel ever since I read 'Devil in the White City' several years ago. My daughter plus a close friend and I had the opportunity to visit on 5/11 to celebrate Mother's Day weekend together. The waiter was excellent -- attentive, extremely efficient and had a good sense of humor. He answered our questions and made suggestions to help us in our food choices. All-in-all, dining at the Atwood for brunch was an excellent conclusion to a perfect Mother's Day weekend.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMtheater dinnerWent before theater. Food portions are small but the food was excellent. Had no problem making our 7:30 show even though restaurant was busy. Great service and fun atmostphere (jazzin the background but not too loud).5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinnerWe had an early dinner before a "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" taping and thoroughly enjoyed it. Both our dishes were inventive without being too "far out," were tasty, and showed a thoughtful combination of ingredients. It's definitely a cut above standard restaurant fare.
One caveat: if you have a taste for a Grey Goose martini, ask about the price first.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place to go before a playThis is a great place to eat before going to a play. The food is good and it is a romantic setting. My wife loves this place, so it was a an easy choice.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRemarkable salad! The service continues to be outstanding and the white fish and halibut were excellent and interesting. The garden salad was extraordinary! It was like eating a salad straight from a garden and the accompanying "sorbet" dressing was a delight. Already looking forward to a return trip.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA Loop FavoriteAtwood, at State and Washington, is our go-to place before concerts at Symphony Center or plays at the Goodman. The food is creative, delicious and fun and service is top-notch. It's always best to reserve ahead. The salads are the freshest greens with interesting additions like golden beets or mint. The mussels we had the other night were plump and wonderfully flavored. Their rabbit scallopini is perfectly cooked with pureed veggies and mushrooms and other yummy ingredients. Same goes for their halibut. Our waitress, Beth, was knowledgable and attentive but not intrusive. All the wait staff is friendly and skillful. Atwood may be pricey for some, but for us it's a great value. Oh, and their desserts are real treats.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurantThe Atwood is adjacent to a Kimpton hotel and as usual for one of their restaurants, the food was excellent, beautifully served and very tasty. The decor is old fashioned and gorgeous, I love the blue oversized chairs! We had breakfast and dinner here, the service was excellent for both meals. It is a great place for people watching as the huge windows on this corner site give you a great view of the busy streets.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful lunch thereWe had a wonderful lunch there before going to a theatre matinee. The food was wonderful, our waitress was friendly and helpful and we were not rushed at all.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAtwood FirstExcellent service and very friendly staff. The atmosphere was elegant, but also warm and charming.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely civilized lunch in the LoopLovely food. Civilized experience. Reasonable lunch prices. Feels like hotel lunch spot, which it is. Tables close together, but somehow the layout makes them feel separate, and noise level somehow is subdued, and it all seems to work. Good people watching.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best pre-Downtown theaterThe best pre-Downtown theater restaurant in the Loop! Thanks to the enthusiasm and suggestions of our waiter, Beth M., we had a great meal (my friend ordered the rabbit!) and got out in time to walk through the downpour to the Oriental.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat location to catch aGreat location to catch a bite before or after a show at the Bank of America Theater. Were seated at a comfortable table by the large windows for people watching. Even though they were busy when we left, we were never rushed out of there. Our waitress was superior and the brunch menu was extensive. The best deal of the day was valet parking for six hours that covered our restaurant and theater time for $19.50.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Loop area restaurant. My daughter & I enjoyed a delious traditional breakfast on Sunday. Great selection.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter was the only thingOur waiter was the only thing i can complain about. He did not speak clearly, or give his name. Our drinks were taken care of by a different waiter as well. He may have just been having a bad day though. The interior is fantastic! We really liked the menu. Not too many selections and the dishes are also simple yet exquisite. I had the Halibut and she had the Scallops. Both were perfect and noticeably fresh. Great food, outstanding service! Our waiter was great, bussing service was perfect. No one took a plate until we were finished and not just grabbing it immediately, but waiting a few minutes and asking first! Even though, for us, the menu is somewhat limited, we found great food to eat!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBrilliant decor, menu andBrilliant decor, menu and service. Brunch/lunch food excellent, as always. Waiter very personable, but could be a tad more attentive. Coffee refills were few and far between.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMNice brunch. Don't plan onNice brunch. Entrees were amazing and creative. Excellent choice for dinner close to a theater. Service could've been a bit more friendly, although I think that was just our waitress in particular. The host was incredibly friendly.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for business meetingsThere are not many full service restaurants within walking distance of my office that are open for breakfast and good for an early morning meeting. Atwood Cafe was perfect. The egg white fritatta with fresh spinach was excellent - light but filling. It was accompanied by fresh fruit. My colleague ordered traditional bacon and eggs. Service was excellent - attentive but not intrusive. The food came quickly. The restaurant was about half full with business people and the noise level was quiet. The decor is interesting, with tables and half-booths with comfy sofas. Having eaten at Atwood Cafe for lunch and dinner, I can now also recommend it for breakfast.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our favorites. GreatOne of our favorites. Great food in a beautiful setting. Only comments: first, the runner did not bring a spoon with the soup and we had to ask. Second, while the duck was absolutely delicious the portion was somewhat small and it was plated on a very large plate that made it look even smaller.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBeth was our server and sheBeth was our server and she was knowledgable and very pleasant. She was attentive, but not annoying and stayed on top of our table even though she had several others. Beautiful room with high ceilings on the corner of Washington and State. Unique and interesting menu. Delicious arugula salad with acai berries and mint. Even more delicious white fish with crab and wonderful sauce. Fine wine selection and great finish with chocolate cake with raspberries. Delish!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe hadn't been to Atwood'sWe hadn't been to Atwood's for quite a while, due only to the absence of a theater performance at a nearby venue. We enjoy the ambience of the restaurant and we were favored with a window table looking out at the passing scene on Washington. We enjoyed the menu and the selection of wines, and the food was well-crafted and most satisfying, including the carmel salted cheesecake dessert which we found excellent. Service was a bit slower than usual, perhaps due to a more crowded attendance than we remembered, but we did finish dinner in ample time to walk to the theater. Atwood's remains a place we enjoy patronizing and we will return.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed our experience immensely.Enjoyed our experience immensely. Atmosphere, service and food were great. It was a great dining pleasure, food was great and the kids had a good time. The younger ordered from the kids menu. Food portions were modest, elegantly prepared and very good. Waiter was top notch.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOur burgers came out quicklyOur burgers came out quickly and cooked as we asked. Good spot for a business lunch.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
