Atwood CaféAll about BurnhamIn the heart of the Chicago Loop, and in the historic Reliance Building, this restaurant has always thrilled me. It's large glass windows look out on State & Washington and the passing crowds. It is a great place to take out of town visitors. The food in very good, inventive, and the presentation attractive. Staff are cheerful and friendly, and are willing to make an effort to please you for any special request. It is pricey but worth it for a special occasion. . .6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming art deco gemLocated in a beautiful, historic Chicago Loop building at the base of the Hotel Burnham, this delightful and cozy spot is a favorite for Sunday brunch. Splendid art deco decor, high ceilings and large windows make this a perfect rendezvous for friends. Food is tasty and ranges from classic to unusual. Experienced wait staff provides excellent service.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMattractive and accommodatingA member of our party has a severe gluten intolerance. The chefs were very good about having menu items prepared that would accommodate her needs. The room was rather quiet and the decor was lovely. The food was great and the service was good. We were quite pleased.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMYum!Five of us all had the same comments during and after the meal. Everything was just so delicious, perfectly prepared, and beautifully arranged on the plates. We were delighted, start to finish.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat nightWe enjoyed the food very much and the location was very close to our hotel. Friendly service6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good downtown restaurantFood was extremely tasteful and beautifully presented. Portions sizes are on the small size for the price. Service and surroundings are excellent.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely food and decorThe manager was extremely pleasant and welcoming and the staff attentive. For the starter we had a kale salad. Sprinkled with red onion, smoked duck, and parmasan, it had a lovely mix of flavours. The lamb was perfectly done as well. Portions are just nice (not large) and dishes had an interesting mix of ingredients that balanced welll. Decor exuded old world charm.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNice surpriseWent as reviews were positive and was not disappointed5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMdinner after book of Mormonoutstanding choice for after a show and special occasion. food excellent and service impeccable.very comfortable dining and very attractive decor.highly recommend!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this place! My husband and I were celebrating our one-month anniversary while we were in Chicago for Memorial Day weekend, and we had Sunday Brunch at Atwood Cafe. My husband had the southern style eggs benedict, which was divine! Rather than using the traditional English muffin with the eggs benedict, they used cornbread with BBQ and eggs atop paired with breakfast potatoes. I had a more traditional breakfast that hit the spot. Our server Keith was a delight, and after he found out we were newlyweds celebrating, he had the kitchen prepare a small decadent chocolate cake with raspberry ice cream and fresh berries on the house. If you're staying near The Loop in Chicago, this place is a must go. I highly recommend it!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBeth M. was our server. SheBeth M. was our server. She took time to explain the menu offerings and provided us with conscientious and courteous service.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pre-theater venueClose to many theaters and offers valet parking good for dinner and until after the show for a reasonable price.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA treasure in ChicagoThis was a last minute find and I did not quite know what to expect. It was was very nice and and wonderful service.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner for twoVisiting Chicago for the first time, we found Attwood Cafe in the Dorling Kindersley guide. Booking via the internet was easy. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was relaxed and the service easy and knowledgeable. Would thoroughly recommend.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Spot for LunchQuintessential Chicago lunch spot. Excellent ambience, food, and service.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Food is GoodThis is the second time within about 6 months I've eaten at the Atwood Café. I love the ambiance and intimacy of the room. You are able to have a conversation with the person across the table without having to tune out loud music or the echo of other tables. The risotto was good but needed more parmesan cheese. The chef was nice enough to replace the mushrooms with asparagus since mushrooms are yucky. I ordered the soup of the day which was so thick it reminded me of baby food, so the taste was excellent but consistency not so much. My companion ordered the duck and it was cooked perfectly.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMNice and quaint.Warm feel and unique dishes. We sat outside on the small patio and loved it.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent experienceFood, selection, drinks, service all at a very high level. An excellent meal and experience. Would happily return. Pricey drinks about the only negative, food expensive but not beyond expected at a restaurant of this caliber.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAtwood Cafe's Outstanding BrunchI loved the art deco charming elegant decor of this restaurant. The food and service were impeccable. My wife and I partook in the Sunday brunch at Atwood Cafe and enjoyed it immensely. She had the Eggs Benedict with over fried potatoes and I had the Mushroom Burger with Boursin and watercress topped with honey cream fraiche and salad greens delicately tossed with a light vinaigrette. It was superb! I would go back there in a heart beat.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunchInteresting, varied brunch menu. Excellent service. We had a wonderful experience.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMpretty settingthey were busy, nice vibe without being loud and obnoxious. Food was good although not exceptional, desserts were really yummy. Drinks were very good, with a nice assortment of mixologists drinks.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMPreShow MustWonder staff, amazong food and prompt service. What more can I say? Great evening, and close to theaters.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Pre TheaterIf you are going to a play at the B of A Theater across the street, this is the perfect place to come.
Good food and drinks and attentive wait staff.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were in from out of townWe were in from out of town and had a great Mother's Day brunch here. Service, food and atmosphere were awesome.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMReally appreciated being ableReally appreciated being able to have a lovely Mothers' Day brunch and still make our afternoon show time! Thanks to the wait staff and kudos to the chef on a delicious menu!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great experienceThis is my regular stopping point whenever I'm in Chicago. Coq au vin and smoked salmon for breakfast were perfect, the hen and risotto were perfect, the bartender did a fabulous job with both custom and standard fare. Be sure to try to mimosa for breakfast and the Syrah for dinner!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMUnexpected GemI looked for a restaurant near the theater that would accommodate a party of 8. The Atwood Cafe was a real find. It's part of an historic hotel with great architecture. The staff was most accommodating and friendly and the food was superb. Good portions, reasonable prices and lots of options. The staff made made me feel special. I'll definitely return.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day Weekend FunI've been wanting to dine at the Atwood Cafe and see the hotel ever since I read 'Devil in the White City' several years ago. My daughter plus a close friend and I had the opportunity to visit on 5/11 to celebrate Mother's Day weekend together. The waiter was excellent -- attentive, extremely efficient and had a good sense of humor. He answered our questions and made suggestions to help us in our food choices. All-in-all, dining at the Atwood for brunch was an excellent conclusion to a perfect Mother's Day weekend.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMtheater dinnerWent before theater. Food portions are small but the food was excellent. Had no problem making our 7:30 show even though restaurant was busy. Great service and fun atmostphere (jazzin the background but not too loud).5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place to go before a playThis is a great place to eat before going to a play. The food is good and it is a romantic setting. My wife loves this place, so it was a an easy choice.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinnerWe had an early dinner before a "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me" taping and thoroughly enjoyed it. Both our dishes were inventive without being too "far out," were tasty, and showed a thoughtful combination of ingredients. It's definitely a cut above standard restaurant fare.
One caveat: if you have a taste for a Grey Goose martini, ask about the price first.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BreakfastI enjoyed the eggs Benedict and particularly liked the crispy home style potatoes that accompanied the eggs. So often the potatoes are limp and unappealing, but they clearly make an effort to create a nice side dish here.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spotAtwood is always a great lunch spot, especially on nice sunny days for lots of busy State Street people watching. The rissoto and truffle fries were tasty as always, and the my friend's burger was top notch as well.. Wait staff was solid if unspectacular this time around.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMRemarkable salad! The service continues to be outstanding and the white fish and halibut were excellent and interesting. The garden salad was extraordinary! It was like eating a salad straight from a garden and the accompanying "sorbet" dressing was a delight. Already looking forward to a return trip.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurantThe Atwood is adjacent to a Kimpton hotel and as usual for one of their restaurants, the food was excellent, beautifully served and very tasty. The decor is old fashioned and gorgeous, I love the blue oversized chairs! We had breakfast and dinner here, the service was excellent for both meals. It is a great place for people watching as the huge windows on this corner site give you a great view of the busy streets.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAtwood CafeThis is yet another of the innumerable restaurants where it's more important for the chef to show off than to serve food. The chef did show off, usually well, but the menu is very limited. There was also a weird disproportion between size of portions such that one entree might be enormous and another microscopic. Pricing for breakfast was just plain bizarre. Eggs benedict cost the quite reasonable tariff of $14, while oatmeal with a little fruit and nothing else was $8. The most serious problem concerns ambience: all the tables in the street level windows have a couch on one side a chair on the other. Sitting on the couch (I tried several) left my mouth (I'm 6'1") almost at the level of the table. Not very comfortable nor pleasant.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful lunch thereWe had a wonderful lunch there before going to a theatre matinee. The food was wonderful, our waitress was friendly and helpful and we were not rushed at all.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAtwood FirstExcellent service and very friendly staff. It was a lovely gesture by the waiter to acknowledge that we were there for a birthday and to bring a dessert to celebrate.
A very pleasant overall lunch experience. No complaints at all.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGood if you are going to aGood if you are going to a play in Chicago. Convenient location to theaters.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Pre-TheatrePerfect for pre-theatre and they were very attentive to our timing needs. Decor needs some refreshing but otherwise exceptional food and service. Great view over State St.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been dining at the AtwoodWe've been dining at the Atwood Cafe for about 15 years and have always had very good experiences. Food quality, preparation and portions are spot on as is the service. Atwood Cafe location makes a great choice for pre-theatre dinner or post theatre dessert.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMAn exciting decor. WonderfulAn exciting decor. Wonderful service from Beth! Delicious dining4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a delightful meal withIt was a delightful meal with a couple of blips and the decor was nice. I was disappointed to discover they were located in a hotel, however.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu was so interesting--goodThe menu was so interesting--good details, such as the crisped mushrooms accompanying the halibut. The atmosphere was elegant, but also warm and charming.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely civilized lunch in the LoopLovely food. Civilized experience. Reasonable lunch prices. Feels like hotel lunch spot, which it is. Tables close together, but somehow the layout makes them feel separate, and noise level somehow is subdued, and it all seems to work. Good people watching.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMy friend and I come downtownMy friend and I come downtown from the suburbs about a dozen times a year to see plays through the Broadway in Chicago series. We always enjoy having lunch at Atwood Cafe. We have had Heath as our waiter a few times, and he is especially attentive and helpful.
We look forward to a return trip for another downtown adventure!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great Atwood experience.i had another great Atwood experience. we were greeted with a smile and seated immediately. our server beth was attentive and paced dinner as we had requested. we needed to be out by 7 in order to go the the ballet and she had us out the door right at 7. our entrees were great and the risotto was really great!!
i made a note on my OT reservation form that it was my guest's birthday. we did not order desert, but a lovely desert with a candle was brought out. NICE touch and thoughtful of the atwood.
atwood is consistently a great restaurant for lunch, dinner or brunch.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best pre-Downtown theaterThe best pre-Downtown theater restaurant in the Loop! Thanks to the enthusiasm and suggestions of our waiter, Beth M., we had a great meal (my friend ordered the rabbit!) and got out in time to walk through the downpour to the Oriental.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat location to catch aGreat location to catch a bite before or after a show at the Bank of America Theater. Were seated at a comfortable table by the large windows for people watching. Even though they were busy when we left, we were never rushed out of there. Our waitress was superior and the brunch menu was extensive. The best deal of the day was valet parking for six hours that covered our restaurant and theater time for $19.50.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Loop area restaurant. My daughter & I enjoyed a delious traditional breakfast on Sunday. Loved the fruit accompaniment!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AM
