Diner Reviews
  • "In the 25 years we have lived in the Newport area we never dined at the Atlantic Beach Club thinking it was a location for tourists. We were very surprised to find the atmosphere, food and service was anything but that. We really enjoyed our dining experience there and will definitely be back"

  • "We have been here once before two years ago and it was very nice. I am not sure if we went on a bad night or not. They certainly seemed overwhelmed. The hostess was very flustered and not professional - we had a reservation and I had to give her my name 3x. After being seated, everything was a long wait. It took 20 minutes for our cold appetizers to come out. Keep in mind this was during Newport restaurant week where they have 3 appetizers as part of their prixe fix menu. One would think they would have trays of these apps ready to go. Our server was pleasant enough, but each round of drinks took close to 15 minutes to come out. All in all a drawn out experience. Only upside was the food was good. Praise the chefs!"

  • "We went for the Early Bird Dinner. The quality and quantity of the food surpassed all expectations. I would go back and order from that menu again. The only complaint is that some of the food was warm, not hot, but it was unclear if the temperature of the food was the fault of the chef or the poor service by the waitress. She seemed to be the only one on duty, but there were only about 5 tables occupied and we all didn't arrive at once. We must have waited about 15 minutes before one empty plates were taken away. The bar area seemed very busy and it seems lots of people chose to eat there rather than in the dining room. All said, I would certainly give the place a chance."

  • "Given the great location, this brunch fell short on its delivery. From the weak Bloody Mary to the cold, greasy bacon, one could choose a better venue. Lacking was a variety of breakfast pastries and croissants. No bagels, English muffins or Danish. Strange for a brunch menu to be missing some essentials. On the positive, the ham carving station was delicious. Good thing pricing was at $15.95. Otherwise, would be a total waste of time. Oh, by the way, the scrambled eggs tasted as if they were made with the sea water that one overlooks at this venue. Watch your blood pressure!"

  • "We visited the restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Newport Restaurant Week is also going on now. The $35 deal they had going on was such a great deal -for such great options, stuffed lobster, filet mignon, mussels, etc It was yummy!"

  • "Visited during restaurant week. The good choices were great and I was please was the food and waiter service overall. They do have an extensive wine list which is great! Only thing I didn't like was that I wasn't given the option to not sit in the dining area without the live music. It's hard to hear the person you're dining with and also it was a chilly evening and sitting next to the drafty windows got cold at times."

  • "Wife & I went during restaurant week. They had awesome three course meals on the menu and specials on bottles of wine. They also had a 3 person band that played great dinner music including Frank Sinatra. Plus you get to watch the sunset on the beach"

  • "Wow, ABC had an unbelievable restaurant week menu for lunch. We were VERY impressed with the meals we ate. Everything was delicious and you can't beat the view!! Staff worked well with customers also. All around a PLUS for ABC...Great job from the kitchen!! We appreciated it. We will be back before the "tourists" arrive!!"

  • "Our party's lobster and stuffed fish dishes were bland but server Alyssa's bright manner somewhat made up for the very so-so food. But here's the thing: Open Table said we could not get a table for 6 at 7 PM. A couple dropped out of our party so we got 4 people at 7. But the dining room was empty at 7 PM so why did OT say a table for 6 was not available? Disappointed with the Open Table experience because of this. Maybe the problem lies with ABC but something needs to be done by somebody."

  • "Wide food selection, both our meals were excellent. Server was very attentive. We selected this restaurant because of food selcection and entertainment. We had a very enjoyable Valentine's evening. Plan to visit in the summer to enjoy outdoor dining by the ocean."

  • "Went on a quiet weekday winter evening when the restaurant was mostly empty. Reminded of an older, stately locale. Food was excellent, service even better. Wine from the 20/20 list equally good. Will make it a point to return in the summer when the beach and its view can be better appreciated."

  • "Food was great. Lobster specials were very reasonable. Los Gatos was an excellent band and very danceable. Service was excellent and kitchen was speedy. Highly recommended for dinner & dancing for two or with a group of friends."

  • "What looks to be a seafood restaurant on the beach also serves some great meat and poultry entrees, plus some nice specials. My entrre, on the menu, of Duck Breast with a Cherry Sause was superb. Will surely return"

  • "Nice view of Newport's First Beach along with fast, friendly service made for a good lunch! The food was reasonably priced and the amount served was just right."

  • "We decided to book this restaurant based on a suggestion from a local resident's suggestion for good quality seafood at a reasonable price. Although the food was fairly good, the atmosphere was loud and the room was more like a banquet hall than a relaxing dining experience. Service seemed rushed and not too attentive as the staff seemed over taxed with tables. Visible frustration from some of the staff was evident."

  • "We had reservations for Thanksgiving. The only negative thing I can say is we waited just under an hour for a table. Hate that when you have reservations. The excellent thing was the buffet set up. If you wanted turkey and all the fixings, it was all together on one table. Excellent thinking! The other entrees were on another table. This allows everyone to get a turkey dinner. And those that wanted other food, went to the next buffet table. No long lines, no waiting. The desserts were on another table. The food and service were excellent. Very well planned out. We enjoyed ourselves."

  • "This is a local favorite of mine and I always enjoy myself when I go. I went with my mom and my 12 year old son, for a New Year's dinner. I got the clams casino as an appetizer, which was quite yummy. For my main course, I decided on the clam boil. I have to say, I was blown away. This clamboil was jam packed with tasty goodies and for a far better price than the Barking Crab, which I found to be sorely lacking. Don't even get me started on their key lime cheesecake! Heavenly! Our server was very friendly and did a great job of making us feel right at home. This is a nice place for a nice bruncheon or an upscale event."

  • "Atlantic Beach Club is a large and very nice restaurant with a view of the beach and Narragansett Bay. They have a large outdoor patio which was of course closed when we visited on Christmas Eve. We made a reservation on Opentable but we arrived to find the place about half full. The wine list was three dense pages in the menu. The appetizer list looked great. We actually had clam cakes, easily the best clam cakes I have ever had. Two of us had lobster dishes and the third had swordfish. We shared, and all was excellent. The waiter was very attentive and professional and our food arrived promptly. When the check came it was very reasonable. I'm just hoping that when the summer comes I'll be able to get a table in under an hour wait!"

  • "The Atlantic Beach Club is buetiful. The food is so good. Every time we go, about 4 times a year, the waitstaff is terrible. They act like they are doing you a favor serving you. The waitress dropped off our food, did not ask if we needed anything else and we barely saw her again. My 12 year old child asked if we wanted her to go get the waitress. Waited forever for the check, finally had to yell excuse me across the room to my waitress who was busy doing busy work, not helping out a customer."

  • "The meal was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. We had hoped to have a nice romantic dinner but were seated near a table of 8 rowdy diners in a room that was almost empty of people. It made it a little difficult to be romantic when the adjacent table were drinking heavy and were loud from drinking. We had been to a wedding at the restaurant in the past but never for a private dinner. We will gladly go for another party or with a group but not for a quiet romantic dinner."

  • "We met friends for brunch. The fiod, as usual, was delicious. We enjoyed the breakfast items including fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, bacon sausage and eggs benedict, and movedright On to the roast beef and ham. The ceaser salad was as tasty as ever and the seafood augratin Was such confort food on the cold, gray, rainy day.The dessert table Did not disappoint with the wonderful petite cheese Cakes, delicious brownies, and more! We lingered For over two hours, enjoying conversation whil Catching glipmses of the fog and waves crashing on the beach!"

  • "While not fancy, the food is decent, selection is fine. One buffet is breakfast, the other is lunch, with small dessert table. Chocolate strawberries are the highlight!"

  • "What a pleasant surprise! The restaurant wasn't crowded on a Saturday night (although I expect in the summer months it is) The service was very good. Jason was outstanding! Great drinks, food was very good and they offer $20 bottles of wine! I had a steak/lobster combo that was excellent. There was live entertainment that was very good. The surprising thing was the prices. I couldn't believe how reasonable the prices were and big portions. This isn't five star dining but it was very good. Cheap enough to bring the family. Great desserts were offered but I just didn't have room. I should have stayed to listen to the band. It's nice to see there is a place to dine in Newport that doesn't break the bank."

  • "Although not directly in Newport, the restaurant is right on the line. It's pricy, but the scenery and food are well worth it. Was only 5 minutes away from our hotel. Great location for wedding, function, business dinner, or a romantic dinner for two. I'll definitely be going back."

They still have Sunday afternoon music--jazz, we asked. Happy to have chosen this of the many Newport restaurants participating in the Restaurant Week venue."

The entire staff made you feel like you were the only customer in the restaurant. I love this restaurant and we love to bring our friends here!"

  • "This place was a throwback. Charming, in a way kitschy (though not on purpose). The kind of place your grandmother could ask "what comes with that?" and she'd fit right in. As a amtter of fact, the night we were there, it was mostly older folk. Until a group of Harley riders came in. Interesting. The fish was fresh but most came with some kind of heavy, creamy sauce or were covered in crumbled ritz crackers (seriously), or were fried. Still, you are literally ON the beach. During the day, I'm sure it's the perfect place for fried clams. Though you can get those at the fish shack across the street for half the price. It's not bad. It's perfectly fine. Just more about looking out the window than anything else."
