Diner Reviews
  • "It was a beautiful summer evening when DH and I dined at Atlantic Beach Club. We were promptly greeted then seated by the hostess. Our table was on the covered patio with a beautiful view of the ocean. Jason, our server was wonderful. Both the service and food was excellent."

  • "I ordered the Fisherman's platter, and almost everything was delicious, tender and moist; unlike the fried shrimp. The shrimp was over fried and actually dry and chewy...extremely disappointing. Other than that, everything was fabulous."

  • "Food and service was good. Atmosphere left a little to be desired. In the lobby, there were people dressed formally for an event, casually for dining, and in swimwear from the beach. Maybe have aseparate facilities for the beachgoers."

  • "Looking for a nice seafood restaurant, but this was not the one to go to. Expected a view, but there wasn't any. The food was very basic fare. Wines - well at least they weren't very expensive. Do not go here unless you are looking for a basic family restaurant."

  • "We have been wanting to go for brunch for a year. It was worth the wait."

  • "We like the food very much but they couldn't handle taking care of the people. Although not every table was taken, our server was slow, inattentive and seemingly unaccommodating. We sat with empty glasses, steamers and lobsters came out with no melted butter and would get cold waiting for it to arrive. For such a great place to eat it was a shame our waitress was so weak and unenthusiastic. It made for a less than perfect evening."

  • "Waitress started out friendly, she brought us our sparkling wine we asked her for an ice bucket and she did but was kind of put out we did..sandy clams..she said oh that means there fresh..ya u no little girl..means there not washed properly!! No bread and we noticed everyone Around us had some...so I guess go there for dinner but don't ask for anything..."

  • "Our server was excellent, food was ok, a bit soggy, the hostess was a DITZ, did not acknowledge my OT reservation; I called the restaurant the next day to have them correct it, was promised a call back, never got one, & my reservation STILL went to OT as cancelled. Had to resolve with OT, NOT a good thing."

  • "What more can you ask for? A fabulous view of the ocean and scrumptious food! Sat outside and watched the waves while eating a terrific baked schrod luncheon packed with a topping of shrimp, scallops and newburg sauce. All three of our party ordered the same thing....it is amazing! Can't beat the prices either. Will be back many times!"

  • "walk on the beach and brunch for father's day. good food, good service. this gets a bit wild and crazy later in the day in the outdoor section, but the indoors is kept nice with a strictly enforced dress code. (i was pleased the hostess sent a bikini-clad chick out to the portajohns in a polite way instead of allowing her inside). good brunch buffet- nice selection including custom omelets, carving station, lunch items, sweet things, muffins, and eggs benedict. great deserts. About 70 bucks for 3 including 2 bloody marys."

  • "Great food, service and location. One of the best baked stuffed lobsters I have had in the area and a very reasonable price."
    Dined on 6/11/2014
  • "Overall decent meal; one exception was the fried "whole-belly" clams. In both the fried clam dinner and Fisherman's Platter, the fried clams were, well, scrawny...not nearly as good as the original Johnnie's was noted for. Remainder of the Platter was very good, as were the clam cakes and calimari. We did really miss the "stuffies". Service was excellent -- Jason and "Young Ryan" were terrific!"

  • "Brunch was a great value for the price. Great variety of well-made food. Gorgeous view right on the beach. Restaurant could use some remodeling. Definitely recommended."

  • "Friday evening dinner with visiting family - 3 out of 4 meals were fine - the 4th, a baked stuffed lobster @ $48 was over-baked. Legs were burned and brittle. Lobster meat was stuck to the claws and nearly impossible to extricate. I know ABC can do better."

  • "ABC is always dependable and good. My only suggestion is to bring back stuffies!"

  • "Perfect setting for Sunday brunch. We were in Newport for a college reunion and this setting features the Ocean and the Cliff Walk. We arrived and were shown to an inside table, when I had asked for a water view--which was the reason we chose this spot to begin with. After a little confusion, they did accommodate us with an outdoor table."

  • "We first visited Atlantic Beach Club 3 years ago. It was the highlight dining experience of our 6 day New England vacation. Our return to the area this year prompted a return to Atlantic Beach Club. I made reservations online with Open Table, arrived within the hour and was greeted by name. We enjoyed our second dinner-for-two-by-the-sea every bit as much as the previous visit. Food was wonderful, facilities clean and beautifully decorated. Great music piped in throughout the evening at just the right volume level. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and made the evening memorable. We will be back! Don't miss the Crème Brulee!!! "

  • "We enjoyed our brunch at ABC. The location is excellent, right on the beach. The inside of the building was gorgeous and the mimosas were delicious. The brunch buffet was spectacular! The stuffed chicken, New England clam chowder and french toast sticks were among my family's favorite items! The mini desserts were a great addition and the carving station was a cool aspect. Very happy! Will return for brunch again! "

  • "Atlantic Beach Club never fails to please. All four of us had delicious meals, lobster, sole francese, mussels, scallops, seafood medley...all excellent. Beautiful views of the ocean and a chance to take a walk on the beach before or after dinner. Who could ask for more?"

  • "In the 25 years we have lived in the Newport area we never dined at the Atlantic Beach Club thinking it was a location for tourists. We were very surprised to find the atmosphere, food and service was anything but that. We really enjoyed our dining experience there and will definitely be back"

  • "We have been here once before two years ago and it was very nice. I am not sure if we went on a bad night or not. They certainly seemed overwhelmed. The hostess was very flustered and not professional - we had a reservation and I had to give her my name 3x. After being seated, everything was a long wait. It took 20 minutes for our cold appetizers to come out. Keep in mind this was during Newport restaurant week where they have 3 appetizers as part of their prixe fix menu. One would think they would have trays of these apps ready to go. Our server was pleasant enough, but each round of drinks took close to 15 minutes to come out. All in all a drawn out experience. Only upside was the food was good. Praise the chefs!"

  • "We went for the Early Bird Dinner. The quality and quantity of the food surpassed all expectations. I would go back and order from that menu again. The only complaint is that some of the food was warm, not hot, but it was unclear if the temperature of the food was the fault of the chef or the poor service by the waitress. She seemed to be the only one on duty, but there were only about 5 tables occupied and we all didn't arrive at once. We must have waited about 15 minutes before one empty plates were taken away. The bar area seemed very busy and it seems lots of people chose to eat there rather than in the dining room. All said, I would certainly give the place a chance."

  • "Given the great location, this brunch fell short on its delivery. From the weak Bloody Mary to the cold, greasy bacon, one could choose a better venue. Lacking was a variety of breakfast pastries and croissants. No bagels, English muffins or Danish. Strange for a brunch menu to be missing some essentials. On the positive, the ham carving station was delicious. Good thing pricing was at $15.95. Otherwise, would be a total waste of time. Oh, by the way, the scrambled eggs tasted as if they were made with the sea water that one overlooks at this venue. Watch your blood pressure!"

  • "We visited the restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Newport Restaurant Week is also going on now. The $35 deal they had going on was such a great deal -for such great options, stuffed lobster, filet mignon, mussels, etc It was yummy!"

  • "Visited during restaurant week. The good choices were great and I was please was the food and waiter service overall. They do have an extensive wine list which is great! Only thing I didn't like was that I wasn't given the option to not sit in the dining area without the live music. It's hard to hear the person you're dining with and also it was a chilly evening and sitting next to the drafty windows got cold at times."

  • "Wife & I went during restaurant week. They had awesome three course meals on the menu and specials on bottles of wine. They also had a 3 person band that played great dinner music including Frank Sinatra. Plus you get to watch the sunset on the beach"

  • "Wow, ABC had an unbelievable restaurant week menu for lunch. We were VERY impressed with the meals we ate. Everything was delicious and you can't beat the view!! Staff worked well with customers also. All around a PLUS for ABC...Great job from the kitchen!! We appreciated it. We will be back before the "tourists" arrive!!"

  • "Our party's lobster and stuffed fish dishes were bland but server Alyssa's bright manner somewhat made up for the very so-so food. But here's the thing: Open Table said we could not get a table for 6 at 7 PM. A couple dropped out of our party so we got 4 people at 7. But the dining room was empty at 7 PM so why did OT say a table for 6 was not available? Disappointed with the Open Table experience because of this. Maybe the problem lies with ABC but something needs to be done by somebody."
