  • "We love this place especially in the summer with its open air patio but it's just as nice in the winter with its retractable glass roof. Food is very good as are the wine selections, Another plus is the free valet parking!"

  • "We go to Athena at least once a month, often for lunch on the weekends. The food is always good, the staff are professional. I love the outdoor/indoor space, especially in the summer."

  • "We were abandoned by our waiter. We couldn't get what we ordered--food or drinks. Thirty minutes after the busmen had cleared our dishes I went in search of our check. The food was diner food--greasy and lukewarm. When I spoke to a manager he didn't seem too worried; there were more people coming in the door."

  • "Because of the expansive patio, Athena was long considered the place to dine during the summer months only. Now, it's the place to be in Greektown year round, thanks to the arrival of Jimmy Alexander and his crew. Alexander has opened up the main dining room, expanded the menu, and elevated the quality of the food across the board. He has done the impossible, really: created a vibrant, comfortable and magical space where locals mingle happily with tourists. (No mean feat in a town where if something is built for tourists the locals stay away.) Kick off your lunch or dinner with a plate of Greek sausages and/or the eggplant appetizer. Finish off the meal with some whipped Greek yogurt with prunes and apricots."

  • "Our first choice when it comes to GreekTown. Good Food, very friendly wait staff and a great menu. Never a bad experience. Love the al fresco dining in the summer."

  • "When in Greektown, do as the Greeks do and eat at Athena Restaurant. They have THE BEST egg lemon (avgolemono) soup around and the salads and entrees are amazing as well. We also loved the coffee and assortment of delish Greek pastries. The staff and manager could not have been more accommodating and friendly. There are plenty of Greek restaurants on Halsted, but Athena stands out above the rest."

  • "Our group of 6 were very disappointed with our experience. A our son attends school in the city we eat at a different once a month, experiencing Chicago's great variety of ethnic restaurants. This was our first experience of this type. First, the server was more concerned with the large, obnoxious large party who were seated next to us. The noise level was so high that we could not hear ourselves speak to each other. When we mentioned to the server he did nothing to correct it. Second, we had to ask many times for refills of our drinks and food order. In addition, although this restaurant boasts a beautiful, open dining area we were shoved in a corner. Athena took the Oompa out of our Greek experience."

  • "The huge surprise here - the great big solarium area to eat. The addition to the restaurant is glass all the way around with a clear roof. It felt like eating outside in the middle of winter. What a fantastic room. Perfect place for a big group. The food is fine. Service is attentive and quick, without being drippy friendly."

  • "My family and I eat here at least once or twice a month. Hummus is amazing, and wines are delicious. My go-to meal is the veggie kabobs, served over rice. I always order a side order of potatoes, those potatoes will change your life. After checking out all the restaurants in Greektown a few times, we always go back to Athena, service is always friendly and fun."

  • "My wife and I went to Athena on a rainy Thursday evening. The waterfall wall inside, while not necessary on this evening, added a soothing white noise. With its high ceilings and hard surfaces, I could see how the waterfall might be essential to damp the noise if all the tables were full. On our visit, the restaurant was about half full. The menu is like other Greektown restaurants, but very well executed. Egg-lemon soup -- delicious and not too lemony; lamb chops -- excellent; chicken breast stuffed with spinach and feta -- delightful, and provided lunch the next day. Service is very friendly and attentive. We were greeted at the door as if we were old friends. This place is really delightful and we will return."
