Diner Reviews
  • "Of all the top restaurants in NYC Atera, at this time, serves the most baffling foodie experience."

  • "Just got off my flight from SFO to JFK and I wanted something sparking , and Sommelier, Scott Cameron, recommended a most intriguing Sake champagne, Dewazakura, Tobiroku, Yamagata to start. It just made the evening start beautifully. Each dish was better than the last .I loved the Crab and green tomatoes, borage and salsa verde, Foie gras terrine with rhubarb, sweet ginger and sorrel. The Brittany Turbot , two services: head with a truffle soup, roasted back with asparagus.Suttle taste, perfectly cooked moist and tender."

  • "Wow, props to them for being able to charge over $800 for two for this meal. Interesting certainly, but just not really very good. Truly at one-third the price it would be over-priced. It was fun but just not good. To paraphrase a well-known food critic who commented on a similar concept at a now-closed New York restaurant, I felt like a great big, bamboozled cheese. How do they stay open?"

  • "Great food. Excellent for people searching for food experiences and those who are not afraid to try something new. Amazing food and excellent service"

  • "My wife and I had the tasting menu at Atera and the lasting impression we both had was, ok. Nothing in particular was bad, but all dished were a bit unfocused and lacking balance. Not even the caviar dish brought that sought after feeling of Wow that I long for in a tasting menu. Sadly the best dish we had all night was the bread."

  • "exceptional food and service, real impressive staff knowledge about everything related to the meal. Only drawback is the price, expensive but about the same of other restaurants of the same level."

  • "A once in a lifetime culinary experience! Three hours went by very fast, even with 20+ courses. The food was so fresh and a real treat for our taste buds. Highly recommend a beverage pairing with the meal. Loved watching the food preparation in the open kitchen."

  • "The price hear is equivalent to Daniel, but they miss Daniel's impossible to achieve mark of perfection. It's different, but frankly full of itself. For the price you pay ($195) plus extra if you want the caviar and of course any drinks in the overpriced drinks menu, a deconstructed and clever meal, which this is, should be perfect. Not just in every dish, but in the construction of the menu. Almost every dish was some form of fish, either whole (such as the indifferent halibut with fried halibut skin--really a fishy pork rind), or (the more successful) shellfish dishes. But when you build this kind of meal, you don't just have one meat dish, a very good duck. And you don't forget one of the elements, which they did for us, so I'll pass."

  • "We had a great gastronomic experience, characterized by a very active and well thought sequence of extremely well finished dishes, all made with great finesse and aesthetic sense. Our expectations were fully met regarding food, service and ambience. A lighter/softer musical background would better match the food experience and the general style."

  • "I've dined a few times at Atera, and all dinners have been superb! The food is innovative and delcious. Service is very friendly and attentive. Wine list is among the best in NYC, and the prices are very fair. Sommelier is very knowledgeable. Atera is a wonderful blend of two of my other favorite restaurants: Momofuku Ko and EMP. 20 course tasting menu. Comfortable counter seating. Dinner will last about 3 hours. Look forward to many more dinners at Atera."

  • "The restaurant is small, but it provides a specatular view on the open kitchen. Dinner was an experience, with its 15+ courses. The chef is very innovative, mixing ingredients and techniques drawing from French and Asian cultures mainly. Tastes are uncommon, some very good, some less (lack of textures or too similar tastes); having two successive courses about the same key-product was a very good idea (for the lobster and duck). The beverage pairing was good, with several sakes, beers and wines, very well adapted to each course. Service was not invasive. Music was somehow too loud for such an intime setting, but this is certainly the way New Yorkers do. Overal a great experience."

  • "This was one of the most enjoyable meals I have ever had. The food was spectacular, the presentation/preparation was art, and the drink pairings were fun and interesting. It was as engaging for the mind as it was for the taste buds."

  • "My fiancé and I went here to celebrate our anniversary! Such a great warm greet from the stuff! It is an expense place. However it was worth it! We did the reserve pairing which we had about 18 different drinks. From awesome wine, sake, Port. Didn't had any hang over at all! Love every single drink they gave us. We had coffee and espresso with our desserts and even the coffee was on point. Def going back! We took the 6pm reservation. Good choose because by the time we were don't it was close to 845! Staff was very nice and friendly! They pay attention to you."
