My second time here at Atera. First time i was very impressed but this time it failed to impress. Of the 21 courses about 4 were very well done but the rest were at best average and some of the courses were way too salty and sweet.

The whole setting is very special and worth going. You get about 20 "courses", all nice small and no meat When i am very honest i think the food was oke but not really special or outstanding But if you want t have dinner at a really special place and environment and not expecting stunning food it is worth going

The best place I have been in NY for quite a while. I liked the tapas style (number of small bites), the drink pairing (not only wine) fitted very well. I went alone but the kitchen view where I could follow the assembly of the dishes kept me busy. It was a bit chilly but was offered a pashmina (very unusual for a man but it worked). In summary, I would love to go there once again. Highly recommended.

Atera is a great place to experience a very different food journey. Molecular Cuisine is a very cool and fancy way to cool food. The materials they are using are very fresh and picky which can be eaily identified by us foodies. The caviar was the most amazing cuisine in my mind after one week. All the twenty courses had very beautiful presentation and made you feel guilty to eat!

I ate at Atera on Saturday night followed by a lovely dinner at EMP the following night. I have to say, while the service was impeccable at EMP, the food I most remember and now long for was from Atera. Beautiful decor, all the dishes prepared with amazing attention to detail. Flavors really well executed. While all seats are bar stools, they seemed comfortable enough for the 3 hour service. I also loved that everyone seemed to be having fun. After your meal, end it with a trip downstairs to their private lounge for a nightcap.

I was really looking forward to this experience. I discounted the couple of reviews that said the food was fairly blah for this level of tasting - but that was my experience. Beautifully presented, and the service was amazing. But it is the food that one comes for. A shame as the ambience is great - although the choice of music struck me as a little odd.

The most disgusting service in NYC!! Avoid ATERA, you could literally be followed on the street by a waiter, who will "ask" you to increase your tip! Even if the tip was enough to by a dinner for two in any good restaurant. I'm serious! It happen to me!

Naturally, it's hard to please everybody so rarely do you come across an establishment that ticks all the boxes. Understated cool, but very sexy/cosy ambience. Well orchestrated kitchen/wait team, light on gimmicks. Every single course of the 20 was faultless and positively orgasmic. We will return without a doubt.

This is a beautiful space for a restaurant and I really wanted to like this place not just because of the price tag but for what it ostensibly stands for. Unfortunately it just wasn't that good. None of the food was seasoned properly, if at all, and that's basic stuff. It's hard to take a place like this seriously when they don't get the basics right. As we were leaving I saw the cooks start to sear a duck breast for the next seating, which he wouldn't be serving for another two and a half hours...So if you've got money to burn and want a fun night but don't care about amazing food, go. I saw pictures of almost all the dishes we were served on the internet, which is weird for a place that apparently changes the menu so often.

Every aspect of this food and wine haven has been carefully thought out and refined and yet the delivery is in no way pretentious. If you simply want to enjoy each morsel, the servers will allow you to do that; however, if you want to know every type of micro-leaf and flower used in any preparation, they are ready to do that as well. The wine list is both extensive and well thought out - truly incredible for a restaurant with 18 seats! Although it is hard to believe that $1,000 (including plenty of wine) for a couple is great value, it truly is. With 30 on their payroll, this is a labor of love not a profit-making venture.

We had our 4th dinner at Atera, and what seemed impossible became true: Being almost perfect and becoming even better. Chefs are using slightly less high tech but focus more on ingredients, presentation has become more mature. Smoking a substantial part of the technology kit giving ingredients characteristic taste. Service knows every detail of any dish, and if not, they would find out in no time. Choice of wine is great, but given the complex mix of dishes it is a bit tricky to chose the right wine. Wine pairing is offering too many different drinks (more than a dozen), and just one type of wine is also not right. Maybe the very experienced wine director could come up with a more focused pairing (3-4 wines or so).

The entire restaurant team is amazing to see in action and they make your dinner so much more enjoyable with their pleasant attitudes, fun nature and knowledge the food and what pairs well with the dishes! Hard to pick which is my favorite dish, honestly the lamb tartar was a big hit this round. Lobster rolls always make me salivate, and the meat and uni dishes just blew us away.

We knew we were going to lay down a significant amount of dough for this in the hopes that our foodie spirit would be indulged and Atera did not disappoint. We were very satisfied with the presentation, creativity and execution of each tasting but what did pleasantly surprise us was the staff. One might expect stuffy service but the staff was super friendly, enjoyable, professional and truly added to the experience. This was an intimate environment and quiet but still one where we could joke with our servers and chat about the preparations. We were certainly full by the end and enjoyed every minute of the 3 hr meal - and it did go right up to the minute of the next seating! Very well done!

Only 15 diners sit around a bar (on comfortable seats) and watch the chefs prepare small courses that arrive in quick succession. The food is both experimental and familiar with bold and interesting flavors that are surprisingly light and well balanced. Many of the courses had a Japanese feel to them. There is no dress code (although most men wore shirts) and the atmosphere is casual with a 70's rock sound track - this really takes away the formality. It take around two hours, so it doesn't feel like a marathon. Would recommend for anyone who wants fine dining without the old-world feel of many New York restaurants. Staff are professional and efficient and do not get overly 'involved' with you. It also helps if you will eat everything.

It's easy to walk right by the restaurant if you are looking for the name. I couldn't find it. But if you look for the address you will be greeted warmly into a tiny lobby. If you are early you will be taken by elevator to a very charming and beautifully decorated intimate bar. When they are ready to seat you they will escort you to the dining area where you will not see tables and chairs, but U-shaped community seating facing the open kitchen. There were six chefs preparing beautiful dishes served by five cordial, professional and well informed men in suits. The food was creative and delicious. The wine list was extensive and their cocktails were unique.

Atera is justly regarded as one of the top restaurants in New York City right now and based on the dishes, service and room it is easy to see why. There isn't a single ho hum dish coming out of the kitchen, the service is top notch and the space, particularly the downstairs lounge, oozes sophistication and style. So why the but? One caveat is the almost exclusive focus on fish for the savory courses. I also felt that the meal we ate lacked an arc. Food, like any other art, should have a beginning, build to a crescendo and leave you with an appropriate finale. For us there was a procession of dishes, some which built on the former dish, others which didn't follow at all. Maybe I'm being picky but perhaps there is room for improvement.

Atera is a special experience. The food is inventive and delicious. Only two repairs: first, the option with harmonized drinks not worth; it ends up being very expensive and on several occasions, no drink accompanies the dish; second, the cost - benefit ratio is a bit exaggerated, Atera prices are high. But it is an experience that is worth. At least once in a while ...

This was my second visit to Atera and even better than the first. The food and "theater" of the experience was BEYOND. We immediately asked to make another reservation several months from now so we have time to save up. Each morsel of everything was like nothing we've experienced. Compared to others favorites of ours (Gotham, Per Se) at that level, this was by far the most complete, unique, and special experience.

Every dish was artfully crafted and presented beautifully. The complexity of flavors comes out in every dish and makes you wonder what's next with anticipation. This is a community seating style restaurant with open kitchen where the food is prepared directly in front of you. There was one table off to the side which seated 4 - 5 people but wasn't sure if it need to be reserved ahead of time for larger groups. There is no set menu so if you love to eat and be surprised this is a place for you.

Its hard to pick your favorite course at Atera because the moment you say "OMG, I need another 3 dish of the one that just got served" yet another dish surpasses your expectation as your Top 3 dishes in your mind keeps alternating as you work through this multi-course dinner. The menu is creative, flavors sophisticated, and visually daring at times, diners will surely be left with a sense of excitement and joy after this meal. Currently my FAVORITE tasting menu in the city, far underrated...and I am fine with that because reservations are still reasonably available.
