Diner Reviews
  • "We had enjoyed the depth of taste in each course, which also flowed well from one to the next. The precision of science and effort created some of the other surprises that caught our attention through dinner. The wine list was heavenly. The Sommelier was customer-, experience-centric and knowledgable. The service was really good too. The dining experience has left deep and good memories for us."

  • "Challenging, poetic and extremely tasty food at Atelier Crenn."

  • "Many places aspire to be different. This one does it differently - from the menu to the presentation to the most important thing about dining - the food."

  • "Atelier Crenn was one of the most remarkable dining experiences we've had. Crenn is a true artist. The food was provocative, the plating, the utensils…every part of the food experience was given great thought and care, without being stuffy or forced. The beginning service was a bit slow, but things picked up. Mind-blowing flavors, scents and textures kept us anticipating our next course throughout the evening. Too expensive for me to be much of a repeat customer, but so glad I went."

  • "Wonderful food and exceptional service. Very creative dishes and interpretations. Dinner lasts about 4 hours or so but is well paced. The chef takes the time to walk out and meet the guests."

  • "I basically never write a restaurant review on here. I am breaking a decade long silence for this restaurant. Simply the best restaurant in San Francisco. It is for a special occasion, a discovery, a romantic dinner. Dominique is so sweet, as she came to greet every table. Her culinary art, because we are talking about art, is "extraordinaire", like we say in France."

  • "An immersive food experience. Four hours of gastronomic bliss."

  • "What a joke. Cramped quarters, robotic service and Lilliputian portions. Spare yourself the overflowing disappointment and visit Benu, Coi, Quince or any number of other restaurants in San Francisco instead."

  • "You guys are rock stars. This was the ultimate food experience. Took my wife as a major indulgence and spent 5, yes 5, hours in food heaven. Wine pairings were spectacular. There was not one course (of 20) that were not a delight to all senses. Found myself giggling a couple of times out of sheer pleasure. Yes very expensive but in my book worth every penny (and I don't part with my pennies easily). Any bad review of this place just didn't get it."

  • "It was an 4 hour affair and we enjoyed every minute, every bite."

  • "The food lived up to all the hype, although after 5 hours we left without finishing the last two courses. The evening began perfectly with the wine and food coming at a nice pace and very attentive service. The service waned, however, when the chef left the building and the tables filled up. The courses got farther and farther apart. The som came back less and less, despite purchasing several hundred dollars in wonderful wines. We expected a 4- 4.5 hour service but this went on way too long and frankly, a restaurant of this caliber and pricing just cannot let this happen, period. PS It is infuriating when your water glass remains empty for long periods of time at a place like this."

  • "We went to Atelier Crenn for our 8 year wedding anniversary on June 3, 2014. The ambience was great and the service was outstanding BUT the food and wine pairing for the RIDICULOUS price was beyond terrible. The wine paring was $150/pp extra and you MAYBE got 1.5 glasses of wine for the entire tasting menu. We had the Chef's Pick menu for $200/pp and expected amazing food. I think out of 11 tiny courses 3 were satisfactory to the palate. And many of the wines DID NOT pair well with the courses they were placed with. For almost $1000.00 for 2 people (including tip) I am extremely disappointed and cringe to know that they ripped me off so badly. There are many wonderful restaurants in San Francisco - don't waste your time & money here!"

  • "The space is small but cozy. the staff was incredibly helpful and educational and really helped us understand all that we would eat. And to cap the night off we got to take a photo with chef crenn even though she was very busy. This place is expensive but worth all the memories "

  • "...the impeccable service and attention to detail in all aspects of the dining experience made for an absolutely sensational evening. Ian was quite attentive in his assistance with wine selection. The pastry chef is a creative genius in his presentation. It was also a rewarding treat to be within earshot of Dominique issuing accented directives to her team throughout the course of the evening. And to follow along the poetic menu, line by line, whilst each creation was presented was possibly the most unique culinary adventure in which I've ever had the pleasure of partaking. I cannot in words express my gratitude."

  • "A wonderful dinner experience! We had the Chef's Grand Tasting Menu and enjoyed every bite- so creative, unique, and delicious! The service was excellent; very friendly, helpful, and on top of everything. The menu is unique and we enjoyed following the poem for each course. Chef Crenn came to each table to introduce herself. It's not often this happens and we enjoyed meeting her. We have been to many Michelin star restaurants and this is one of our top favorites!"

  • "We came into the city after a week in Napa to specifically eat at this restaurant and we were blown away with the experience. Each and every person was warm and attentive. The service was impeccable and seamless. No matter who was serving, pouring, or clearing, there were smiles and a true desire to make sure our evening was wonderful. The food was pure art - both in taste and vision. Nothing short of spectacular. Wine pairings were perfect and definitely the way to order. Chef Crenn thoughtfully visited all of the tables which was lovely. To enjoy this restaurant, just show up with an open mind and eat what is put in front of you with no reservations or hesitation- just trust in the chef."

  • "This was the best high-end meal I have eaten. Certainly better than Manressa and arguably better than French Laundry. We went on a Friday, so only the grand tasting menu was being served. With each course I wished the portion was bigger, but by the end of the meal I was glad they weren't - I wouldn't have been able to finish otherwise. There was a whimsy and creativity to the progression of the meal. I won't go into the detail of each course, Ruth Reichl did a much better job than I could in her recent blog entry. The wine pairing was almost impeccable. In one course an excellent Rioja was served, but I felt was a bit overpowering. I would have gone with a Sancerre Rouge. "

  • "The food was good but it took such a long time to get through all of the courses.... We did not choose the signature because we were told it would take 3.5-4 hours, however the shorter menu still took 3-3.5 hours so we were more sleepy by the end than anything."

  • "This is by far the most creative food "artwork" I've ever seen. Spectacular presentation, extremely clever cuisine and absolutely delicious. All the staff was extremely kind, attentive and seemed to love what they were doing. Everyone must try this restaurant before they die."

  • "My boyfriend and I visited Atelier Crenn to celebrate our anniversary when we were visiting San Francisco from the UK. We love fine dining and thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Atelier Crenn. There was a relaxed atmosphere and the service was spot on. Having the chef come to speak to us during the meal was a nice touch."

  • "We visited the restaurant at 8 p.m. - even some nicer tables were empty and stayed empty, we were seated on a very small table next to another small table. The waiters continously touched me with various body parts. The seats themself a very low and hard, for me uncomfortable. The food was good, but far away from 2 Michelin stars. The chef herself was not in. May be this was the reason? The desserts were two Michelin stars alike!"

  • "I was amazed by the creativity and artistic presentation of the whole experience. We had a party of four and all of us have been to many top michelin rates restaurants around the globe. The wow effect was certainly there and all of us had a wonderful evening. At the end, we really could not think of any dish out of the 20 that we did not enjoy."

  • "Chef Crenn and her staff (notably Justin) took attention to detail, superb level of service, and creativity of the most delicious and memorable dishes, to a level I never imagined I could ever reach. "

  • "I mean that title in the best possible way, the food is phenomenal and satisfying, though the presentation, artistry, and refined crafting of each course is truly what defines the experience. The staff were deeply knowledgable about each course, and it was a wonderful way to celebrate my fiance's birthday."

  • "Food-art. Creative, surprising, beautiful and delicious. Not cheap, but made a great experience. Worth paying this price if you enjoy food and have the time to explore it. The long (4 hours) dinner we had here stood out even among similar price/prize-category restaurants."

  • "From the moment we entered until we left three hours later, our entire experience was filled with food surprises, service excellence and perfect pacing. This restaurant understands that intelligent food preparation matched with service excellence is something unique to dining in the Bay Area. Here attention to both makes for a memorable meal where everyone is committed to your enjoyment and delight. "

  • "My husband and I agreed that this was one of the best meals we have ever eaten. We had the 20-course tasting menu. Our meal was a progression of wonderful flavors and textures, each lovely, innovative, and fun. We liked every one, loved most of them, and enjoyed matching the poem to the dishes. We shared a wine pairing, and thought most of the pairings were more "perfect" than we have experienced elsewhere. Our service was impeccable. Dominique was so gracious to greet every table. After 3 1/2 hours, we left feeling happy and not stuffed. A very special meal indeed."

  • "Course after course is presented each in it's own unique and amazing dish with its own character. A long list of ingredients and flavors you've never imagined comes with the seemingly never ending and out of this world experience. This is something you just do in order to understand, it's unlike any 'normal' restaurant you might imagine"

  • "Both me and my wife are vegetarians and Crenn did an awesome grand menu for us! Out of the roughly 20 courses we were served, we were blown away by the taste of at least 8, and the presentation of every course was delightful. We took our 1.5 month old baby and they were more than willing to let us take baby-feeding and restroom breaks. Overall, our taste buds were left with wanting more from the 2-michelin star, but we highly recommend this once in a lifetime experience."

  • "A great restaurant. So nice that Chef came out to meet people. Needs a larger venue. Very crowded with your neighbors but at same time allows you to get to know them. Art in food."

  • "My best friend since 4th grade and I started a tradition years ago where we have a monthly dining experience, Dinner Club. The only rule of Dinner Club is that neither of us could have eaten at the restaurant before. We were both blown away by Atelier Crenn. The food was exquisite, the service was exceptional- needless to say, we were very pleased. We have been to the likes of Benu, State Bird Provisions, Frances, Common Wealth, Stones Throw, Sons and Daughters, and many, many more. Atelier Crenn is definitely at the top of the list for both of us. This is a dining must. "

  • "Very creative and inspirational chef, staff is more than friendly. Ambience could be a little cozier, less lights on, some candle light and a discrete music on the background would be much appreciated. It was the best tasting menu I've ever eaten, even have been in three and other two Michelin star restaurantes."

  • "Dinner at Atelier Crenn is an unforgettable experience. Chef Crenn is such a talent. Her creations are presented beautifully, and the flavors are unique, rewarding, a fabulous taste experience. We recently had the basic dinner menu at $126 per person, and were surprised and pleased with every course, of which there must have been 12. One of our party is someone who says he just doesn't "do" fancy food and lengthy dinners, yet he was enthralled, totally content to spent close to three hours at the table, and enthusiastic about everything he was served. This is an experience not to be missed, be prepared to be wonderfully surprised, to feel cared for, and to leave knowing you want to return for another special evening."

  • "We arrived early and were instantly taken care of by our lovely waitress. The moment we sat down we felt like we were the only couple there. The food was outstanding so imaginative. And thought provoking. I was like a little child discovering treasures. The wine list was like Un other than I had seen. I would recommend everyone who has a passion for food and drink to go here. As we're from Scotland the meal came to the same amount for 12 courses as we would pay for 7 in a one star restaurant which is amazing value for money. We will definitely going back next we visit San Francisco."

  • "Absolutely stunning and incredible tasting menu. The poetic approach to a menu was even more uniquely followed by the presentation of food. The experience was incredible. We will definitely return next season for the next menu."
