  • "Love this restaurant. It feels like going to a friend's house....warm and friendly. The owners are always there and so glad to see you even though they do not know me. There is a delicious drink menu. I love the Maker's Mark Mint Julep which was not on the menu that night but has been in the past. They made it for me and were glad to do it. My friend had the bison hangar steak and he loved it. I had the pecan crusted grouper...delicious. The greens were outstanding! The waiters are attentive and there when you need them. Timing was just right even though the restaurant was filled."

  • "The bar at this slightly off the beaten track neighborhood restaurant is a great place to try an interesting and unusual cocktail before dinner. The food here was delicious: we eat out in NOLA all the time and this place is firmly in our top five. The ravioli was fresh and beautifully flavored. The steak was melt in your mouth tender, while the duck was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The brownie closed the meal out wonderfully. The wine list is extensive. The atmosphere had a good buzz without being overwhelming. The staff, especially our bar man, were helpful and very knowledgeable about cocktails and the food. A great meal. We will be back."

  • "Visited while on a culinary trip to NOLA with two foodie friends. OUTSTANDING! Perhaps the BEST food we had on our 4 day trip and that is saying something considering we also ate at Cochon, NOLA, Commanders Palace etc. Great atmosphere. Live music and the Bloody Mary bar was divine. Try the green tomato juice to make yours! Most memorable plate of Shrimp & Grits I've ever eaten! Reservations are a MUST and we did wait about 20 minutes in spite of this, but we got to make our Bloody Marys and enjoy them while we waited, listening to the band. Our only regret on this trip was that we didn't get to come back for dinner! Don't miss this place!"

  • "My husband and I were excited to try Atchafalaya's brunch. We've heard great things. They seated us right on time with our reservation and there was a charming band playing while we waited for our table. Our server Chris wasn't very friendly, not very helpful with the menu, almost seemed put off by our presence. We waited a little over AN HOUR for our food but I must say it was delicious. I wouldn't go back. There are too many restaurants in NOLA to have to wait that long for our food and deal with a rude waiter."

  • "The food here was spectacular. But even better than the food was the atmosphere of this wonderful restaurant. It's beautiful, creative, and magical. Dark, but not too dark, just enough noise to keep your conversations private but not too quiet where you feel you can't have a lively conversation. The chef's specials are out of this world. If you want to pop in for a drink, the bar is great too."

  • "I made reservations at 8:15pm on a Sunday night. We showed up on time at 8:15. It was 9:00pm before they seated us. Four people came in after us and were seated before us. The manager said they also had an 8:15 reservation as well (which they were late for) but had requested a specific table so they gave it to them while we waited. After we were seated, it took our sever more than 15 minutes to get to us. We asked for bread, but the bread came with our salads which was at 9:45pm. There was a huge party coming in that night (about 20 people) and the employees were all busy getting the tables ready-in the meantime neglecting the other customers. The manager apologized to us when they seated us about that wit. But never checked on us again."

  • "Truly enjoyed the food and service. This was a first visit so a learning experience on seating. We sat upstairs where acoustics were a little loud. The weather was great and we discovered there is outdoor seating. Reservations were needed so we did not ask for different seats. The upstairs deck and outside seating looked appealing. On the next visit I would ask for outdoor if available and weather acceptable if not inside downstairs would be my next choice. The service was warm, not intrusive but certainly present to notice any dining needs of the patron. Loved the old house and the atmosphere"

  • "Have not been to Atchafalaya since 3/2010 and my return visit did not disappoint. Off the beaten path but worth the trip. Began first at bar with excellent Sazerac and Margarita for group - drinks made with care and expertise. Server was Stephanie who provided attentive service and did not rush group for our annual get together. Appetizers of soup de jour, mussels, salads and shrimp and grits were tasty. Entrees of grouper, drum and lamb meatballs were all excellent, with particular raves for the fish entrees. Desserts (not for this reviewer!) were also heartily consumed. Suggested wines were also good selections even though we needed to switch since they were low on inventory due to a wine event. Plan to return on future visits to NOLA."

  • "Just returned from 4 days in NOLA. Did all the usual foodie spots and this was the last night before flying out. Well, we saved the best for last. Our server Jack, THE BEST. The shaved brussel sprout/ goat cheese starter was perfect. Great wine list and all three entrees were superb. My wife had the special, swordfish, my colleague the yellowfin tuna. I chose the drum and it was the most well prepared fish of the week. Dessert was the bread pudding. Excellent, with strawberries!! After a great meal we asked Jack if it was safe to walk to the St Charles trolley, about 15 minutes, at night on a Friday. We did. All in all a great evening to top off the week. It is set off in the Irish Channel, not in restaurant row but well worth the trip."

  • "I went for brunch and had an unpleasant waiter. We waited 15 minutes for him to talk to us, then we waited another 45 minutes for our dishes. At a nearby table we witnessed excellent customer service, which made us ever the more sad. Our waiter made faces at us and threw his hands up while asking us what we wanted to order. Everyone else was cordial and friendly. We were sadly unlucky that day, and won't be returning. There are too many delicious restaurants with great service in New Orleans to come back to this one."

  • "The secret to a great brunch is being careful not to stray too far from breakfast, while showing off the strengths of your kitchen.. Atchafalaya is a model in how to do all that stuff right. The laid back trio's jazzwas just right for the room. The Bloody Mary bar has all you need but the green tomato juice is a cool touch. We had the Atchafalaya, perfectly poached eggs on fried green tomatoes with lump crab (I am a sucker for blue crab) and hollandaise...delicious. Eggs Treme were also outstanding, the boudin Cake crisped nicely on poached eggs and hollandaise (again) with some perfectly fried crawfish, and finally the bananas foster French toast, which was simple and Great. Minor service glitch but still a great brunch."

  • "My wife and I came to brunch at Atchafalaya to celebrate our anniversary. When researching online I was impressed by their dinner menu and buoyed by their clever choices for brunch. I thought of this as a trial run, if brunch went well, we'd be back for dinner. I was not disappointed! Sunday brunch is hopping, with a jazz trio and a bloody mary bar, so while the noise was energetic it was pleasant. The menu featured some daring cocktails--we had two each!--and a diversity of entree options. There weren't appetizers to speak of, so we split a terrific crab salad with a citrus/chili vinaigrette. My wife had the cochon d'leggs which was pretty good, I had the duck hash which was outstanding! Service was attentive without being smothering."

  • "Went for Mardi Gras - was one of our pre-planned breakfast spots. Was probably one of the best meals while we had when we were in town and we had some great ones! Great DIY Bloody Mary Bar. Our waiter, Leroy, was the best. Food was beyond fabulous. Would recommend ordering a few things and sharing. We couldn't decide.... everything looked so great, that's what we did and we were beyond thrilled! Fantastic find! Can't wait to go back in May when we're back for Tulane's graduation."

  • "Atchafalaya never fails to wow us with it's lively atmosphere, it's colorful staff, as well as it's fabulous menu selections. I visited Atchafalaya five years ago, for the first time, and I believe that I enjoy a meal there with every trip I make to New Orleans. The brunches are fantastic, with diners spilling out to the sidewalk tables, enjoying the Bloody Mary bar and the cool music provided by a variety of local talent, that just adds to friendly vibe of the place. An evening meal is a treat, as well, but the restaurant provides a more quiet and relaxed atmosphere during their dinner meals. This restaurant is truly one of my New Orleans favorites!!! It's tucked away, but in a great and different location- it's very easily accessible!!"

  • "We were very tired. And hungry. Three parades in one day is probably too much for people travelling with infant twins and another child. We were sans kids for the first time in about a week just for dinner. The staff was very kind to us a rushed us some complimentary gumbo. It was about the best dark roux gumbo have ever had and really hit the spot. The wine list had some very unusual and interesting wines on it and that was very impressive as well. I look forward to our next visit."

  • "I recommend without reservation Atchafalaya for your dinner dining in N.O. Rennie greeted us warmly and made us feel comfortable with dining there. He gave a knowingly complete explanation of the menu, and then gave a glowing explanation of that night's special, Red Snapper with an exquisite sauce. This is a great dining place, even if it is on the wrong side of the Garmin street. (GPS instructions!)"

  • "We live in the neighborhood and took advantage of a rare, quiet Friday night at Atchafalaya - there were Mardi Gras parade rolling so many people were at those. Everything was outstanding, the food, wine, service, ambiance. I love the ravioli app but it's big so I got the fried green tomatoes this time. That was a generous portion as well. Crunchy and spicy, just perfect. I was having a hard time deciding on a main dish because so many sounded good. I went with the fish of the day and was delighted."

  • "We were seated immediately and the service was attentive and professional, without being overly so. The Fried Green Tomato appetizer is sufficient for two people .The fish of the day was grilled swordfish which was cooked perfectly. My wife opted for the tuna and was warned that it was quite rare. She opted to send it back for some extra heat, but thought it delicious. Dessert was absinthe ice cream. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a below-the-radar restaurant with good food and excellent sevice (our wait-person Stephanie deserves a special commendation for her excellent service). This place is a gem, but don't expect to call in the future and expect to get a last-minute reservation. We were just lucky!"
