  • I have yet to have a bad meal

I have yet to have a bad meal at Atasca. We always start with the LINGUIÇA. Even though we can make it at home, it always tastes better at Atasca. My first two visits I always purchased the daily special, including a goat stew that was incredible. My old roommate always gets the FEBRAS DE PORCO (pork medallions), so I thought I'd stay on menu this time and give it a try. And I was rewarded - tender pork in a tasty sauce and melt-in-your-mouth potatoes. For dessert, I always get the rice pudding - not quite as good as my avó's but close enough to leave me wanting for more.

  • NEVER AGAIN!!

NEVER AGAIN! We had an 8pm reservation for 4 and arrived exactly on time. There were people lined up waiting for tables and when we checked in with the hostess (owner?) she told us that our table "would be a while". We waited patiently for 10 minutes, an empty table for 4 in plain view the entire time. When we asked if we could have that table she said "no, its not for you. We are saving the tables for a party of 12 and then we are seating a party of 15". Shortly after, she seated 27 people and left us standing there. At that point, we decided to leave. She was so rude. NEVER AGAIN!

Atasca is a very good restaurant due to the delicious portuguese food that is authentic, yet inventive. By far my favorite dish on the menu is Camarao (Shrimp) Atasca, which has a flavorful tomato-based sauce covering jumbo shrimp with sides of thinly sliced fried potatoes and broccoli rabe. The Galinha (Chicken) com Queijo (Cheese) Sao Jorge is also delicious with a large portion of chicken breast covered in Sao Jorge cheese. The Bife Recheado (Stuffed Steak) is also very good, although I would prefer that a better cut of beef be used. The service at Atasca is fair at best, which takes away from the overall experience. The ambiance is very nice, quiet, laid-back, and romantic. Overall, worth a visit to enjoy quality portuguese cuisine.

The food was very good. Service was fast but not always appropriate. It seemes like our server was buzzing around needlessly. We were a large party, but we went early and there was only one other table seated. He was moving so fast when he poured wine, he snapped the wine bottle up and spilled all over the place. He didnt even notice because he was in such a rush to get to the next place.

By far the best Portuguese restaurant in metro Boston. Having worked in Fall River and New Bedford for many years I love this cuisine and the food at Atasca is top notch.

  • Began a Slow Carb diet this

Began a Slow Carb diet this week and thought that I would be in trouble having made these reservations prior to making my NY resolutions. The table bread was worth the sneak! The clams steamed with garlic and cilantro were fresh and plump with broth flavorful enough that I ate it as well. My entree was steak stuffed with prosciutto and San Jorge cheese. It was a quality piece of meat, and the steamed vegetables that accompanied it, while standard were very well seasoned. I arrived 30 min early and with a Groupon no less; no problems with either. My server was attentive and friendly. One minor quibble: I come from the South where tea flows like water. I was not expecting to pay separately for each glass. Great food - will definitely return.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff tolerated my rusty Portugese and helped us with the menu and wine choice. The pork with clams and potatoes was a taste that took me back to the Azores and the recommended Vinho Verde wine was what I remembered from there but better. Not a place for the truly trendy but perfect if you want to experience a regional cuisine done really well. Full of happy diners on the night of our visit--not much English spoken at the tables near us.
