  • "The food was an interesting fusion of Latin and Indian. I had the New York steak with chimmichurri which was cooked well and delicious. My friend had the lobster portuguese which was tastey but a bit overcooked. The service was spotty. It took us forever to get our server's attention and once we ordered, she paid no attention to us at all. We ordered two appetizers, but only recieved one. She apparently totally forgot about the other. The food was great, but service needs improvement. We sat on the patio, which was nice, but the place was awfully empty. There were only a few other tables filled, and the inside of the restaurant was a ghost-town."

  • "We tried several times to eat at Vermillion but each time the hostess was very unaccommodating. We were beginning to think there was something wrong with us. After so many attempts our expectations may have been high. In the end we were somewhat disappointed. My husband ordered the duck vindaloo, and chicken kabob, and I the jicama salad and lamb chops. We wanted more mild dishes and was advised that the duck was one of the spicier dishes but the others were okay. The duck ended up being the least spicy and the lamb the most. So I ate his duck and he ate my lamb. The flavors were okay but nothing outstanding and not what each of us was hoping to eat. After so many attempts we should have taken the hint and given up!"

  • "When at Vermilion first opened, I remember it being very crowded with absolutely delicious food and drinks. The food and drinks are still good, but the place is now totally empty and that shiny feeling is very gone. I'd say the food has been downgraded too -- the lamb chops were delicious, but the butter chicken was too sweet and the naan was way too doughy. We also had the lobster, which was mediocre at best. I was sorely disappointed. Won't be going back anytime soon."

  • "I quite liked this place since I found Maneet Chauhan of Chopped heads it. A full fledged vegetarian menu for me is amazing! The Portuguese Indian fusion cauliflower and the very fresh avocado mango escabeche are divine. What happened this time was that for half an hour we didn't get asked for water, nor did someone come get our plates and bring the cheque. I walked around the ENTIRE restaurant and there was nobody to be found, upstairs or down. It was so strange. Hence the food was nice but the service was really odd. The ribs as an entree were too sweet and might have been better with more spice. Overall, the food was good enough and the atmosphere was extremely relaxing on the weekend."

  • "Service is good. Food is interesting design and concept. One of the dish (arepas) was extremely hot/spicy. Neither my wife nor I were really impressed by any dish. But it's not bad at all. We just had higher expectations for a mid-town Manhattan pricey restaurant. We were impressed so few people were there, so for a Friday night in NYC, that tells something."

  • "This was our third time at this restaurant for dinner. My wife and I invited our friend to join us. My wife and I ordered the seafood tasting menu. Our friend ordered the meat tasting menu. We agreed that the food was excellent. The price of the tasting menu is $90 per person. The servers explained each course in detail to us. The seafood included a lobster. The food combines Latin and Indian flavors in an very interesting way. The service is not rushed. The restaurant is very quiet, which enables good conversations. The decor is very modern. The tables are placed far apart. Our dinner took three hours. The three of us left this restaurant in a happy mood."

  • "I had eaten at Vermillion in Chicago and loved it. This time was in NYC and was equally good. The tasting menus are a good value and the best way to enjoy the full cadre of delectible dishes available. My only issue was that the final plate served on the Omnivore tasting menu was far too large. It could have served as a meal in and of itself. It was delicious, but was simply too much to eat."

  • "Not being ones to specifically seek out Indian cuisine we looked at the menu before making our reservation and were very glad we visited. The food was bright, fresh and delicious - definitely fusion. The squash soup, smoked chicken salad and artichoke fritters were outstanding, and we wanted to try every dish that passed by. Love the open, contemporary setting, too. A new favorite, we will definitely be back!"

The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night, and apparently expected to be empty since there were few servers. We and our guests will not return."

  • "The food is OK. Nothing to write home about. We went for RW, and comparatively, there are Michelin starred restaurants with better food at the same RW price. And this place does not give you any bread unless you pay for it. Tsk, tsk! Taste-wise the food is OK. The decor is good, especially the bar lounge area on the first level. I would not go back again though since other better tasting restaurants are of better value."

  • "I love this place!! This is the tastiest meal I have had in a really long time. Excellent service friendly but not pushy attentive but not on top of you. Our waiter made great suggestions. I ate from the Restuarant Week menu but my son decided to eat from the regular menu. Duck Vindaloo Arepas -- Crazy Good. The ribs so tender you really didn't need a knife the meat just slipped off the bone. Blue Cornmeal Crusted Scallops!! I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. Innovative menu and so beautifully plated every dish was like a mini art work.."

  • "We enjoyed the NY Restaurant Week 'Tasting Menu' offered by Vermilion. Good selection with innovative combinations of seasonings. The mussels in coconut milk broth and beetroot salad were especially tasty appetizers. The chicken kebab and mango rice and tandoori salmon were very good. I didn't care for their version of chutney - pickled onions which tasted like raw onions dipped in beet juice. The restaurant was very comfortable - tables were not too crowded and not too noisy. Service was very good."

  • "Been here for dinner and thought I would give lunch a try. Had the Grilled Salmon and while that was great, the pairing with the yucca tasted yucky. Nothing wrong with the yucca per se, I just don't like yucca and wish I would have noticed it when I ordered (I would have told them to leave it off). This place is huge and modern with tables spaced far apart. Really nice to be able to carry on a conversation without having to yell and also without other diners eavesdropping. Seems to get a much larger lunch crowd than dinner, probably because of the location. Attentive service and you're never rushed. They also have interesting beers including Cusquena which is from Cusco, Peru. I've only had it in Peru and was happy to find it here."

  • "Space is absolutely beautiful - modern, clean lines, spacious... dining tables set far apart so you can have a great conversation... the menu is fusion / eclectic.. which often means the try lots of things without mastering one, In this case you could see that the chef was trying to be creative... sometimes hitting... sometimes missing. Our table loved the pumpkin curry soup - creamy and rich... but the mussels in coconut juice needed more flavor . The tandoori salmon was a definite hit - good size portion, and juicy... the Brazilian stew a bit of a miss - again just not enough flavor. However Vermillion is SO SO ELEGANT... and we stayed to enjoy a long afternoon chat... the pros outweigh the cons; I'd give it a try again."

  • "We were in NYC this past week for the Westminster Dog Show and needed a very early dinner place--5pm. I'd read about at Vermilion and wasn't disappointed. We were the only ones there at that hour so there was no one at the hostess desk. I had to ask the barman to find someone--he said he'd called up but hadn't bothered to let us know. It was the only sour note. We had the verdant salad, top notch, and it turned out, we all had the butter chicken, which was fabulous. Portions were generous. The chocolate dessert had a blueberry sorbet to die for and was just the right small size to finish. Great coffee, too. We'd go back in a heartbeat, and plan to when we return to NYC twice next year."

  • "This is an interesting menu. The Latin/Indian fusion yields some interesting results. My companion had a spicier experience than I did. The food was equally interesting. My chicken was prepared very nicely; and the soup was excellent. The service could have been a little more attentive. We had a 12:30 reservation; there were a handful of occupied tables, and the level of attentiveness was definitely lacking. There were long periods between meal completion and a server visit, for example."

  • "There is a vegetarian menu as well. It is an unique concept of meshing Latin and Indian food. The dishes we tried were all flavorful. The cauliflower was a surprise treat. The flan was great and we really enjoyed our mixed drinks: a mango mojito and gin with cucumber. On an accessibility note, I had listed on the reservation that we needed a first floor seat. The manager called me and left a message stating while they do not have first floor seating, they can arrange for us to take an elevator. This was very thoughtful and the manager actually escorted us out an exit so that my partner did not have to walk the stairs on the way out. The only improvement I would suggest is that they improve the speed of getting the drinks."
