Asterisk Restaurant & Bar is an upscale bistro located in the lower Thames Street area of Newport. Formerly a automobile service garage, the building has been transformed into a warm, ultra-hip, Manhattan style dining room and martini bar. The existing garage doors are open all summer long… providing fresh air and sunshine. The cuisine is modern French Bistro and the lively bar stays open every evening until 1am.Continued

"Braised drunken beef is my new comfort food. Delicious! Menu had enough variety to please both of us, even though I'm rather picky because of food allergies. I found plenty to keep me coming back for more. Service was attentive without being annoying, friendly and helpful. High on my "recommend to others" list."

"Great menu for a nice date or if someone's visiting and you want to show off somewhere in Newport that not many Tourists would find, but on the pricier side of dinner. Very good cocktails, I had the Flirtini and it was fantastic. All the food was great and the service was quick. We didn't go on a very warm day, but it looks like in the summer season they open the two garage doors for additional outdoor seating and ambiance."

"We went to Asterisk for Newport Restaurant Week. Their 3 course prixe fixe menu was inventive and overall very good. Although, my sister was disappointed when her smoked trout appetizer arrived with salmon, not trout. It would have been nice to be told about the substitution beforehand. I would definitely order their salmon entree again. The crispy skin was delicious! The decor is fresh and the restaurant has a wonderful French bistro feel. I would also hope for better service next time too!"

"Took a chance on our yearly visit to Newport and we very satisfied. Being that is was off season when we went to Asterisk there were only about 10 other people in the restaurant so the it was perfect for our quiet weekend away."

"First time at Asterisks. Not many people there at 6pm, so we sat at the bar. We both ordered the Sirloin Steak at $38. It arrived extremely fatty. We asked the bartender to send them back. He agreed and the new steaks were wonderful.

We will try Asterisks again."

"We went for new years eve, great ambience, ordered off their specialties that night, and we sat on a plywood bench which had not been finished- odd. ambience great, live jazz was fabuluous, food was ok, it took very long to get and it was what they featured that night so u figured they would have nailed it. The waiter was new and knew very little about the menu. He could have made a little more effort to become knowledgeable about the menu or at least have someone come over that did. Great place with just a little more effort could be fabulous!"
