Diner Reviews
  • "We heard about Assemble from a friend and went to check it out. We were there late on a Sunday morning and the restaurant was fairly quiet when we arrived. By the time we left, around 12:30, the restaurant was almost full and it was quite lively. I had the lemon cornmeal pancakes and my husband had the eggs husserl. We both enjoyed our dishes, and he service was very good. We indulged in Key Lime pie for dessert and it was extraordinary. All-in-all, this was a great dining experience and we will return."

  • "I was rather disappointed dining here. Heard great things about this place. Seems the food was lacking. The caesar salad had no croutons or taste. The sliders were good but the fries were limp and cold. The pot pie was cold when it was brought out. It wasn't crowded and all of our food ca,e at once. The salad should have been served first. Not sure if we will go back again…….."

  • "The location is really cool and right on the water. Figuring out where to park took a few minutes, as it's not obvious you can go in to the national historical park lot. We were seated immediately. Service was attentive, and we stayed for a while. We shared a calamari appetizer, and it was good. I ordered a full mac and cheese. It was fine. Not great, not bad--it was whelming. It was kind of dry until the bottom portion, which was more saturated and what I had been looking for. It's plenty of food for a meal, but don't count on leftovers. Otherwise, the two people I went with both really enjoyed their meals: one had a catfish sandwich, the other had the sliders. Drinks were reasonably priced."

  • "Good brunch, lots of fun, great service, I had fish and chips, very tasty, for dessert, key lime pie"

  • "I love their salad with champagne vinaigrette. Normally I don't like 'weeds' in a salad :-), but they grow their own and they're perfect. The fries are pretty much perfect too."

  • "What a great place for fun, a romantic dinner or to hangout out in the Marina Bay hood! Service was great, the food extraordinary, the ambience perfect. You won't be disappointed!"

  • "It was a hard place to find but once we did, we loved it. Cool old- warehouse feel, original windows, lots of light. All the food was great but both the chicken pot pie and the coconut cake went above and beyond! Phenomenal!"

  • "The restaurant is a hidden gem! Love the setting and atmosphere. The food is delicious and they heave everything ready to go when you have a reservation."

  • "Tried it. Not a fave. Even at bar service is abismal. Chef has great potential and food wasn't horrible. Tons of southern influence and tastes. Frito pie is awesome."

  • "far more than a place to eat. the salad type stuff is way better than average but the location is gorgeous--right in the bay surrounded by a very interesting historic site. parking is a snap. there are wonderful places to walk and/or meet before and after. underdeveloped and intriguing. a great place for a nice lunch."

  • "The place is charming and worth a visit. Music too loud, but very wait staff accommodating when we asked for them to turn it down. Visit Rosie the Riveter museum while you're there. It is next door and inspiring."

  • "We shared four appetizers and each had dessert. Mussels were spectacular. Jalapeño white sauce best I've had. Corn and ham chowder beyond good. I've also had the chicken pot pie previously for lunch: another outstanding dish. Assemble is one of the better restaurants in the west Bay Area. We loved the atmosphere of WWII decor and adjoining Rosie the Riviter museum. Worth spending time at the museum flowed by dinner or lunch at Assemble and topped off with a walk around the Marina. Assemble is a jewel well hidden in Richmond!"

  • "Assemble is one of those little out of the way places you congratulate yourself for finding. It's been under new management this year, and the food is much better than the last iteration of the place, with more attention to the kind of details that make your experience pleasurable. Bike there on the Bay trail, or take a stroll along the path after your meal and enjoy the lovely views."

  • "We ate at Assemble before the concert and fireworks at the Craneway Pavilion on the third of July. It was a cold and windy night. We were seated as soon as the restaurant opened at 5 o'clock. Our server was prompt and took our order from the special holiday menu they had created just for the 3rd. We enjoyed the meal. There were several tables outside the restaurant to help with the overflow crowd for the occasion. I am glad we were seated inside for our meal."

  • "Our dinner was quite good. Steaks prepared perfectly. The Broccoli with olive oil and lemon was a perfect side to share. Desserts here are very good. Key Lime pie was outstanding. Mocha Layer cake was very good. The relaxed atmosphere and an attentive and friendly staff made our evening special. Location is really cool and it is so nice to have a great place on the bay that is so close to Richmond/El Cerrito!"

  • "Fantastic calamari, beautiful green goddess wedge salad (I mopped the plate). Mussels---yes! Plenty of free parking and then walk out to see the view of the water, visit Rosie the Riveter Museum....a great outing."

  • "The noise level was much too high but the food...Cobb Salad, Key Lime Pie....was very good. The lettuce in the salad was really interesting. Assemble is in a lovely place and has parking (!!!) The waitress was very nice. We enjoyed ourselves but had to lipread. I am not sure how you can control the noise in an old warehouse. And the pipes and the like were part of the charm."

  • "I took my mother to lunch before we went to see the "Rosie the Riveter" exhibit a few yards away. My mother had the sliders and I had the chicken pot pie. We both enjoyed our selections and cleaned our plates. It is great choice for lunch if you are going to see the exhibit."

  • "Assemble occupies part of a gorgeous brick building built in 1931 for the Ford Assembly Plant. It overlooks the Bay along with its neighbors, the fabulous Craneway Pavilion, a variety of interesting companies, and a wonderful Rosie-the-Riveter Museum. I have taken friends/family there several time for brunch (Chilaquiles - yum), lunch (Cobb salad to share - it's rich with bacon and avocado and enormous), cocktails and snacks (nice and spicy Bloody Mary's come with celery, white onion, olive and lime)! The wait staff are supurb and I love supporting the re-purposing of this unique historical spot. On a sunny day, sit outside - bring a jacket for the off-Bay breeze."

  • "We found this hidden gem next to Rosie the Riveter Visitor's Center. Assemble goes with that theme, with food delights that harken back to the 1940's-60's. The chef is putting a new spin on American classics, with the dishes nearly jumping right up & asking for well-deserved applause. They use the freshest ingredients, many from their own Victory Garden. Staff are friendly, courteous, & efficient. The beignets with raspberry sauce are to die for, & rival those of Dumonds in New Orleans. The sliders are delicious, with a side salad adding just the right touch. My husband recommends the Triple Club, Tri-Tip Sandwich or the Eggs Hussarde. Their Bartender really knows how to mix a fabulous cocktail, so don't be shy!"

  • "Food was only ok and pricey. Nothing had much flavor. Aioli had no garlic flavor. Lemon drops were very tart and glasses not full. Waiter forgot one of the items we ordered. Charged us to cut the cake we brought. I tried to cut it myself but they wouldn't allow it. Have to say I won't rush back."

  • "Loved our first visit to Assemble, and were definitely not disappointed. The boiled peanut appetizer was a hit this time, too, as was the trout. Beautiful, interesting, scenic setting, with a wonderful sense of history."

  • "Food was nothing to be excited about and could have been better. We came for dinner but maybe should have done brunch. It was nice that the restaurant was right next to the water and the restaurant itself had an open feel to it. Noticed several groups were dining here so good place for good outing. Our waiter was really nice."

  • "I've always been a big fan of Assemble. The food is rich but very good. This time, I was disappointed. I had the Cuban sandwich; and expected great things. It was disappointing. It had a couple of thin slices of ham, a few thin pickle slices, some melted cheese and a little mustard on a white bun. Huh?? I could've done better at home. The beignets with the homemade jam are amazing. But don't get the Cuban sandwich, it's not the Cuban version."

  • "Mainly a a sandwiches place. Many of the items have a historic note about the origins of the item, as it's in an old factory. No problem getting in on a Saturday night. No specific kids menu, but many items are kid friendly (Mac & cheese, frito pie). Desserts were great: chocolate mocha cake and banana cream pie. Ample parking but a little hard to find once you park."

  • "We love this place. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is vibrant. Last time we brought friends from out of town and they can't wait to get back. The location is surprisingly convenient. All you have to do is get here the first time. Our other favorite restaurant is the Chez Panisse Cafe. "

  • "Great restaurant to eat at after a nice walk along the Richmond Bay Trail. We enjoyed a nice brunch on a Saturday afternoon. Menu had a good variety of breakfast/lunch items. Our waiter was very attentive. Nice ambiance. Will return again."

  • "Give assemble a try. We like it and have had mostly outstanding food, service. This last time was as good as the others, we assume they were swamped with Mother's Day crowd. "

  • "I LOVE Assemble! It's really conveniently located close to us so we have gone for brunch. The food here is amazing. They have a victory garden and most dishes have herbs or vegetables from the garden. They also have a fabulous selection of top shelf liquors, which really makes me happy on date night. Great friendly staff, a great vintage atmosphere, and great views! "

  • "Although we had eaten here before when it under different management this was our first visit to Assemble. I love it's industrial setting on the bay it's really quite unique. Our host upon arrival greeted us as if we were expected guests, warm and friendly. I could see that our server was very busy but it didn't show in his attention towards us as he offered recommendations for dinner. The food although not much distinguish in taste was really quite good. The strawberry milkshake with shortbread cookies for dessert was over the top delicious."

  • "Food is pretty good, service is enthusiastic but not very skilled, the space is great and the scenery is killer. Worth a trip and a repeat visit to show friends from out of town, or a field trip to see the sunset."

  • "We ordered the soup special (cream of mushroom) and asian chicken salad. Both were exceptional. Soup was mostly mushrooms, a little cream and full of flavor. The asian chx salad was different and inspirational. Cabbages, unique greens, fresh mandarin oranges and a little horse radish made this salad better than the salad most run in the mill restaurants. The service was exceptional and the view and historical building are impressive. "

  • "No more crab in the crab/shrimp Louie salad, still same price! Fries were completely dried out, like they were previously cooked and then reheated. German chelate cake still fantastic."

  • "We have dined here twice now. The first time, service was great, the food was good, all in all, I would have recommended it highly. The second time, this past Sunday, service was beyond pathetic; in fact, it is difficult to remember whether I have ever had worse service at a restaurant. The food, too, was lacking. Items came to our table cold. I will say, the mushroom soup was excellent. Despite our second experience, we have decided to give Assemble another try hoping this was an anomaly. The restaurant is in a great location, particularly for bicyclists who are looking for a destination for lunch."
