A word from Aslam's Rasoi
Few will find it surprising that Indian food is easier to find these days, as you may be aware, Indian cuisine is growing in popularity for many good reasons. Indeed, the complex spices and fresh ingredients are leading many to choose Indian Cuisine as more than just an exotic dining experience... but as a healthy, everyday dining choice.

Here at Aslam's Rasoi, we also add a broad palette of Pakistani flavors to our menu and we are proud to see that our addition of Pakistani cuisine has proved a successful choice.

This blending of cuisine can be readily enjoyed in our main courses and our selection of appetizers. We hope you will try these dishes in addition to our inventive Indian Cuisine.

Diner Reviews
  • "Saw this restaurant reviewed on Check please and the food look great which it was. However the noise made it hard to carry on a conversation. Also on a warm night it can be stuffy. Food great. Noise a problem."

  • "Our first time here. We thoroughly enjoyed the samosas, chicken tikka and saag paneer. All dishes were so flavorful, and we did order them mild. The naan breads were perfectly prepared and flavorful. Minor request is that the chicken tikka masala could have more chicken, though it was delicious. Staff is attentive and friendly; atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Will definitely be returning!"

  • "Joined 3 friends for dinner here last week. The service was great and the food was very good. Tried the basket of mixed naan, and it was very good. All of the dishes ordered were very good and fresh, with excellent spice level. The dishes are a bit on the small side, but it's only a chance to order more of the great food! Liked that they had a good selection of beers on draft."

  • "Aslam's is my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area and almost anywhere. Few restaurants compare. We used to come to the restaurant for special occasions when we lived in the East Bay. Now we live out of state and come whenever we are in town. The food and service are consistently super, especially the lamb chops, naan and the tikka masala. Service is friendly and fast but never rushed - a nice atmosphere for families or couples."

  • "We had the best service of our lives at Aslam's Rasoi...so attentive, clear about food ingredients and how food is prepared, suggesting what we needed before we realized it. It was an amazing great experience. Eat here!"

  • "The restaurant happened to be very very noisy when I went. This was mostly the unfortunate result of one table of very loud diners whose voices carried throughout the space. The food was generally good but some dishes were so much better than others. They no longer serve the chunks of tandoori lamb, only the lamb chops. The portion was HUGE (four healthy sized chops) and the meat was amazingly tender but i found the seasoning on it to be too salty (and this is a saltaholic speaking!). My friends were less critical and they loved everything. They were out of the wine we requested and instead recommended another one - twice the price. We didn't go for that and found an okay zinfandel for about $30. "

  • "We were four diners who tried a variety of dishes from the ample menu. The restaurant is attractive, the service very courteous. The naan, mango lassi, appetizer combination plate and rice were all good, but we found the main dishes to be so-so. We had ordered three different vegetarian dishes and the fish special. We had asked for medium 'heat', and all dishes were spiced accordingly. "

  • "I love love love that place! The food is so flavorful and delicious. I love the spicy Lamb biryani and their goat cheese nans. Service is really good and the waiters are friendly. It can get loud then again what place isn't in San Francisco."

  • "Food is always terrific (we particularly love the chicken tikka masala, all the biryanis, and the na'an). The owner is lovely, in every sense. If you go early, you can sneak in without a reservation before the hipsters start shaking the sleep out of their eyes and don their all-blacks to parade around the Valencia Corridor. I do miss the Chimay on tap. Otherwise, just about perfect."

  • "The food was very tasty and the labors very kind and friendly. But the Prices were away too high for what you eat seriously guys you are stealing from people! The portions were very less ! For examplebI ordered the mix tandoori plate for 5 people for 22$ but the portion were ok only for one person! Well it's a good restaurant but definetly not for students !"

  • "OpenTable showed multiple 10-tops available at every 15 minute interval. At 6:45 I booked one for 7:45, got there at 7:35 and they told me they didn't have my reservation. After showing them my OpenTable confirmation they told me they couldn't honor the reservation because they were busy. It was a Friday, so they were definitely slammed, however OpenTable was showing all sorts of tables when I checked at 6:45. It seems to me they aren't very good about keeping their availability up to date on OpenTable. We were seated 20 minutes later, which wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have a reservation, but we did. After we were seated, all was good. The food was excellent as always, and the guys visiting from Noida both gave it thumbs up."

  • "We took our daughter to this restaurant twice this past week when visiting from the NY area. The Tandoori chicken, Dal, Bhindi, Saag and appetizers were all very fresh tasting and delicious. Will return here everytime we come to San Francisco, the food is well priced for the quality."

  • "we enjoy this place on a fairly regular basis. Their korma sauce is wonderful and their tandoori is very good. Service by either of the two brothers is friendly."

  • "Excellent Indian food. The flavors are varied and interesting, and we always find something new to try. This time it was a family outing before a show at The Marsh across the street, so we made a night of it."

  • "This is classic Indian/Pakastani fare. Perfect for faqmily style dining. The Saag Gosht was outstanding, very tender lamb morsels in delicious creamed spinich. The Scallop Korma is also very tasty."

  • "The food was ok, but the experience was very poor. We had to wait over an hour to get our entres and the place was very, very noisy (we had to shout to be heard by each other). That made sitting, waiting that long, a rather awful experience. When I reported this to the manager, he didn't seem to care. We will not go back."

    Dined on 2/17/2014
  • "Firstly, I am Indian. In my mind, that fact right there gives my review a bit of street cred. Aslam's is the rare casual Indian restaurant where the ingredients are impeccably fresh, the waitstaff is friendly, and the curry/gravy in each dish actually tastes different! I call it maintaining structural integrity -- i.e. all the ingredients aren't blended up together into a single gravy, which is then added to ... nope, each dish is truly unique. Aslam's is awesome. My only beef is that they actually charge for staple condiments like achar and raw onions/jalapeno. Other than that, Aslam's is the best choice for casual north indian fare."

  • "I've been walking by this place since it opened 7 years ago. Not being a huge fan of Indian cuisine, I passed it by as an option until last Saturday night when a few friends and I decided to check it out. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive to the spice level you prefer. We started off w/the calamari and variety of naan and raita - both were great. I selected the Tikka Masala and theirs was on point. The sauce was so delicious, we ordered more naan to soak it up and I ended up finishing it off w/;my spoon. I tasted the chicken Korma which was milder but tasty. Also I tasted Mixed Seafood Biryani also good (although I preferred mine the best). Will definitely be back again soon."

  • "We took our kids out to dinner here and smack in the middle of the dining room was a large group dining on several long tables. They were loud because there were over 12 of them and one of the diners apologized for their loudness. The dimly lit candles were not helpful. I needed a flashlight to read the menu. I know it's for ambiance but they need brighter and larger candles so people can read the menu. Portions were not that big which seems to be a trend of restaurants catering to rich hipsters living in the Mission dist. Our kid was complaining it was too much to pay $12 for chicken masala with not even 1/2 a chicken's worth of meat on the plate. The papadum and naan bread were OK. Our oldest kid told us it wasn't worth the price."

  • "Six of us made a reservation on the early side (6pm) on Christmas night. The place was packed, and there was a line of people out the door who did not in fact have reservations. Service was on point, and the food was exceptional - the tandoori was very moist. Definitely a spot I intend to return to."

  • "The service here was EXCEPTIONAL. I was worried when I made reservations for a student organization of 25-28 people, but the waiters and staff were able to keep up with our frenzied orders and commotion with ease and charm. And the food is FANTASTIC. This was definitely a great pick and I will come again."

  • "The food was average. We were there on the night of thanksgiving- it got very crowded and loud and the service became less attentive. The ambiance is decent. The place is very expensive for what it offers."

  • "ASLAM' S RASOI is one of our favorite places. We like Indian cuisine, we are usually greeted by Aslan's son. service is both good and swift. There is nothing 'fancy' about the interior setting, but we have come to enjoy that, as well as the good food and good service. We have some Indian friends who like it just as much as we do. In fact, they were with us last week. They think the food is great."

  • "We had Girls Night Out at Aslam's on 10/11/13. It was my choice. I saw this restaurant on Check Please Bay Area. The food looked good so I decided we'd try it out. Well it was a hit. We all loved the food. Our table seem to get smaller as all the dishes we ordered came. My sister was telling me, she wants to go back, she really liked the chicken she ordered. Good food, nice prices."

  • "I met two friends here early before going to a show at the Makeout Room, just around the corner. The restaurant was very quiet but don't know if it becomes noisy as the evening goes on. We each had a different curry, plus samosas to start. Samosas had a very nice pastry, almost like a turnover. I asked for my Korma curry to be mild, but it was too mild--no spice at all. One friend had the Dal and asked for it spicy, & it was. The other had the chicken masala & asked for it medium--that was just about the right spice. Had assorted Naans & rice also. Thought they could have given us more rice than they did, especially because I had to ask for more (& was charged for more) to go with the food that we took home with us. All in all a good place."

  • "Everything we had was delicious- they have the best naan i've ever tasted- thin, hot, wonderful. Lovely waiters, super friendly, but not overbearing. The chicken salad appetizer (which doesn't sound "Indian" but is) was outstanding. Veggie dishes are my favorite spinach daal in particular, but have to say the lamb also melted in my mouth. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Aslam's Rasoi is far too loud and warm but their food more than makes up for this. Lamb korma was delicious, chicken jalfrezi was okay for American standards and the pakora appetizers were also tasty. The best thing was their naan bread. If you like Pakistani cuisine with attentive service, this is the place for you."
