Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed the tom yumm soup and the duck roll - an appetizer big enough for a main course. Service was very courteous but timing was off -- the food arrived before the cocktails were half finished. "

  • "Food and service were great. We ate here during cherry blossom festival and dined outdoors. Great experience. I would go back."

  • "Always good food and reliable. Great for vegetarians as well."

  • "when the Tom Yumm seafood soup makes your eyes water and your nose run, without burning your mouth AND delivers layered flavours, your know you are in the right place! The chicken, not pork or beef sates were OK and the Asian spice salad was also good but nothing special. The Vietnamese Lemongrass Pork pulled Asian Spice back out of the humdrum to the delicious. The drunken noodles were a delight. My Mee Goreng, egg noodles was a bit of a disapointment as I am used to wide flat noodles that hold the hot peanut sauce, but the flavor was there. Thai Green Curry again hit the spot. Spicey, hot, but with mutiple flavors in the heat without any burn My ginger creme brûlée was bland with little ginger flavur, cold, and dense. Not a success."

  • "Good mixture of all things Asian. Also a wide range of food volumes from tapas and sushi to full dinners. Lots of energy and a fun place."

  • "Food was delicious, but it was a little too noisy for a business lunch."

  • "Asian Spice is great for Groups, Date Night, a Romantic Evening with that Special someone, First Date or hanging with Friends, how do I know, Because I have been part of ALL of them. Asian Spice mix the charm of Great Sushi and Asian cuisine with the hussle and bussle of city dining. I love this place and Often look for reasons to return (smile)."

  • "This was my first time dining at Asian Spice. I was very pleased with my experience from start finish. Their sushi was delicious. The waitress was very nice. I will definitely be coming back to Asian Spice."

  • "started with the Duck Roll App - great!! Both entrees - the Korean Short Rib & Chicken Basil were great... very much like what we used to expect at Kenlaya. Happy they still have this location open!"

  • "server was pleasant; food was excellent & presented well"

  • "If you have been looking for Kal Bi that is more like Hawaii-style Kal Bi rather than the traditional Korean style Gal Bi, this is the closest I've found so far. Also, the Malaysian Roti is perfect! The same as you would find at Malaysia Kopitiam."

  • "Arrived at 6:30pm for an 8:00pm concert and after being told twice that they didn't have the wine we had chosen, we got our appetizer . At 7:15pm I reminded our server we needed our main dish, when it still had not arrived at 7:45pm we decided to leave. Would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "There were a number of items blacked out with marker. I ordered crab cakes which were described as lump crab meat. There was no lump meat in it at all. I returned it and replaced it with another dish. Thevreplacement and the other dishes at the table were tasty but nothing to rave about."

  • "Ate dinner here on a Thursday night. Kitchen appears to be very disorganized. Choices of wine by the glass are few and unexceptional. No one could answer even the simplest questions about wine. My seaweed and tofu soup was acceptable - very fresh tofu but the broth was thin. Even though the restaurant was not that busy, we waited 90 minutes for our entrees to show up. Just two noodle dishes. The drunken noodles were a slightly spicy muddle of overcooked soba noodles, although the shrimp were fresh. Mee goreng noodles was a mild curried mush with overcooked chicken. Perhaps the restaurant should shorten their menu, increase the precision of the cooking and for heavens sake - get some interesting wines by the glass."

  • "this was my second time at Asian Spice and it was as delightful as the first time and I will continue coming back when money graces my pockets and open time greets my busy life."

  • "Back room was small and cute but a little cold. Should be fine once winter ends. The sushi was great, Kung Pao chicken was good but served with chives (menu did not reference). Green Curry was also good - a bit watery but had enough spice and taste to satisfy my craving. We would visit again."

  • "Mostly well executed pan-Asian cuisine: delicious gyoza, satay, Thai soup, Chinese eggplant, and Thai seafood. Only disappointment was the Indonesian mee goreng, which was a soupy mess that didn't come close to the real thing. Our appetizers sat so long before making their way to the table that we had to end the soup back to be reheated. Otherwise service on a busy Saturday night was attentive and friendly."

  • "We were seated at a nice quiet table with a window view upstairs over the bar area, had no problem talking. We decided to have a selection of appetizers- all were perfect. We will return."

  • "We were attending a concert at Verizon and were looking for a close place for dinner. We happened upon reservations at Asian Spice. What a nice surprise! It was wonderful--food was unbelievably good. The four of us plan to go back. (Pad Thai was excellent.)"

  • "A good go to place when going to the Verizon Center and wanting solid Asian offerings. The duck roll was excellent. The tao chicken was a really large portion size with a tasty sauce and rice on the side. Service was good and the beer list was pretty extensive with some top quality offerings on the menu."

  • "the food was great - different spin on general tsao's chicken was top quality. the drinks were another story. the lychee martina tasted terrible, and the water tasted like dirty dish water."

  • "The food was a disappointment. My dish was not hot when it came to table and was quite tasteless (duck breast on noodles). Restaurant not busy but server in attentive."

  • "We had a very pleasant and unhurried lunch with friends on Lunar New Year. We were with our well-behaved preschooler, and they sat us upstairs in a quiet area. Really liked the music as well - along the lines of Nora Jones and modern lounge. WIll come again!"

  • "Visited DC this weekend and found AS on Opentable. Had a great meal and enjoyed the mix of Thai, Japanese and Chinese offerings. FYI-- When they note Hot and Spicy on the menu, they mean it!!!"

  • "Apparently because we had an Open Table reservation, we were shown to a small (four table) back room where we were alone for most of our meal. (The "Energetic" noise rating is based on sounds from the other dining area and bar.) She got the lamb kabob, fresh softroll, and wasabi crab rangoon, all of which were very tasty. I had the Malaysian beef satay and lemongrass pork entree. Both were delicious. We had dined here before, in June 2010, and don't know why it took us so long to return since the Chinatown location is handy for before a Shakepeare Theatre or Washington Stage Guild play or after a film at the Regal Gallery Place multiplex."

  • "The lamb satay is delicious and the blue cheese crab wontons were serious!!"

  • "Great place to go if you've got a divergence of opinions on Asian food - I had Japanese, my date, Chinese. Plenty of unusual dishes on the menu from Malaysia, especially. Easy walk to the game after, good service so no trouble making it there for puck drop!"

  • "Found this restairant on Open Table last minute birthday reservation. We love this type of food. 5 of us were there and everyone of us loved Our meal and drinks. Attentive easy on the eyes waiter who always smiled. Fast service and great presentation of appetizers and entrees Even the sticky rice which was dyed green looked beautiful inside the mango arranged in heart shaped slices. One will definitely find us there again."

  • "This was was good, solid. It delivered the expected. It didn't blow us away. We are vegetarian, do not eat shrimp and found that all items in the appetizer section we liked had shrimp in them (fried roll, spring roll, dumplings and pot stickers). Entree section is varied and veg Pad Thai was good. Restaurant was good at accommodating food allergies."

  • "Very friendly staff. Great location in Chinatown. Nice variety in the menu with items from different Asian cultures ranging in price level. The mojitos weren't that good and were small but the food was good and decent portions."
