  • "My husband and I dined at Ashten's on a recent weekend visit to Pinehurst/Southern Pines. What a find! We highly recommend the Artichoke Heart Pops and Pimento Cheese Sliders as appetizers. For dinner, get the Roasted Local Tomato and Spinach Lasagna or the NC Littleneck Clam and Angel Hair Pasta. Both are divine. Unfortunately, they were out of the dessert we wanted to share. I suppose that just means we will have to return again for the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dumplin's."

  • "We have been going to Ashten's for many years and Saturday night was probably the best ever. That spinach lasagna was fantastic and the Salmon with the accents / additions was fantastic. The favorite was the appetizer Artichoke Poppers - outstanding - I could have made a meal of that with the Kale Salad - excellent all around"

  • "This was a wonderful find. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. The ingredients were especially good and the local farmers were acknowledged. We would definitely go back."

  • "Love the lounge area with the couches for dining. Very relaxed and seems to encourage good conversation to match the wonderful food and service. I always look forward to returning to Ashten's."

  • "Group of six ate here while attending the US Open. Experience was not good at all. Ambiance was good; attractive restaurant in a charming town, Southern Pines, close to Pinehurst. Beautiful area of the country. Seated quickly, very nice, friendly staff working hard. But, another large group was being served by the same staff and they were just overwhelmed. Orders were very slow in coming, repeated mistakes, food repeatedly not cooked to order. Cannot give a good recommendation."

  • "Dinner here is always good. Huge variety of locally sourced food and prices. I like dining on the pub side which is more vibrant."

  • "My party was in town on business and stumbled upon this restaurant. If you can, sit in the bar area, the ambiance is wonderful. The food was excellent and I had a cocktail to die for. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, professional and efficient. I would return again in a heartbeat."

  • "My father-in-law recently passed so my husband and I wanted to take his mom to someplace special for dinner. This fit the bill. Everything from the food to the service to the ambiance was just perfect. The place filled up but you can still talk without any problems."

  • "Food is great, fusion style, & staff is friendly. Portobello fries and bison burger are a must try...but there entrees are always great too!"

  • "Our first time at Ashten's even having lived in the area for over 15 years. The service was excellent with a bright smiling and attentive young lady. The dinner choices were not overwhelming yet covered all the bases. We completely enjoyed our evening , the food was terrific and we plan to return."

  • "Ashtens has been around a long time; and it's still consistently the very best in the area. The owners are almost always there and it seems like most of the staff has been there for 5 years or more. The food is awesome - from the gourmet burgers to full entrees. The servers are very knowledgeable, so ask them what they suggest. They almost never steer you the wrong way. Saying Ashtens is the best is saying a lot - we are lucky to have great restaurants in the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area . . . . and there's a lot of competition. Still, night in and night out, it's the best in town."

  • "We go to this restaurant when we down in Southern Pines visiting relatives. This time we waited over 20 minutes before the waitress appeared. She apologized for not realizing we were her table. And then after the pleasant apology she was never attentive. It was like we really did not exist. And on top of that, this was the first time that the food was subpar. My salad that I ordered was soggy. It was like the lettuce was washed and not dried properly plus my main course was subpar. The same was true for the rest of our table. I was very disappointed since I never had a bad meal before and I was the one pushing to go to this restaurant that night. I will have to seriously consider not going again on my next visit"

  • "In Southern Pines for a wedding we were told to go to Ashtens for a great meal. That turned out to be accurate! The setting appears to be a beautiful old home and the soft lighting and cozy rooms create an intimate dining experience. My husband had the salmon and is still talking about how delicious it was. I had the clam linguine which was fine but next visit I would try rack of lamb or just go with the salmon. My husband also loved the unusual Reuben egg rolls which were delicious (and filling). We finished with yummy creme brûlée served by our charming young waiter and had an altogether delightful evening. "

  • "Ate birthday dinner on a Wednesday night at 8pm. As such the restaurant was very quiet. The server was very attentive, but not intrusive. They were aware of and reviewed dietary request made via OpenTable reservation. The chef was willing to make a vegetarian dish despite a vegetarian lasagna being on the menu and he created a delicious vegetable plate with cubed parsnips and sweet potatoes, twice fried sweet potato fritters, tempura broccoli, a slaw on top of everything, and a black pepper aioli. A tomato and roasted garlic soup was on special and fantastic. Boyfriend enjoyed the PEI mussels and the sirloin on special. He asked for it prepared rare and indeed got rare. The apple crisp was delicious for dessert."

  • "Our return visit met all of our expectations. My only complaint is the light level which makes it difficult for a senior such as myself to read the menu, etc. Our server was kind enough to supply a flashlight :-)"

  • "Ashten's prides itself on it's local content in it's meals, and they did not disappoint this diner one bit. I decided on chicken, something simple that I didn't expect to be amazing. The white meat was a de-boned breast shaped in the form of a half of chicken with the leg sticking up. Very nice presentation. The dark meat was also de-boned but arranged in circular fashion with a crispy something on top. I'm not a dark meat fan, but whatever they cooked that meat in was wonderful. The white meat was served on a bed of bourbon soaked collard greens and onions. I didn't know who thought of this, but it was wonderful. The sweetness of the collard greens didn't overpower the meat and the two together were a pleasure for the tastebuds."

  • "Starters where great (spring rolls, tart) and well thought out but entree pork chop was fatty and had been frozen with way too much green chili on plate. The lamb entree had so much salt you could smell the salt when it came to the table.Sadly the waitress did not care about our issues and the table monitor should be moved closer to the front door, distracting."

  • "We have had very good prior experiences at Ashten's but quite frankly I'm not sure we will return after the last visit. The servers were not very professional and the food has gone downhill! One waiter in particular took my husband's polite joking as an indication to speak to us as if we were all old friends… it was uncomfortable!"

  • "The biscuits are wonderful and the tilefish special was outstanding."

  • "I had a great night out to catch up with a friend (without the kids). I had a Cigar Old Vine zinfandel and the Cheerwine Brined Pork Chop with the Candy Apple Creme Brulee afterwards. My friend had the salmon and the flourless chocolate cake. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Our waitress was knowledge and had a great personality. The atmosphere is quaint without being stuffy. We had on nice jeans, some people were dressier, some were more casual. Ashten's is in the heart of downtown and near the theatre and several other bars, so you can have dinner and continue on with your night without getting in the car."

  • "We took our daughter and her friend to dinner to celebrate her 18th birthday. She is pursuing a culinary arts degree, & we knew she would appreciate the fine dining experience. And she did! She thoroughly enjoyed every part of her meal! The staff was great, and the food was delicious."

  • "Our granddaughter gave us a small Christmas gift certificate for Ashten's, so we took advantage of it. We have "foodie" friends coming from England in May and have tried several local restaurants, having only wine and an appetizer. I have some new food restrictions, and the waitress and the chef were very attentive and recommended a very interesting salad that I'd been considering. Delicious! We're sold! We'll be back!"

  • "We will definitely be coming back to Ashten's in the near future with a group of friends- lots of different options for seating due to variety of dining rooms. Very quiet, quaint, and charming , great for a group date night or romantic night out. Soup and sandwiches were amazing; fresh and local produce offered made a difference!"

  • "It's one thing for a restaurant to produce a wonderful dinner on any given night. But it's quite another to do so consistently. Ashten's achieves that. We have dined here perhaps six times in the past six months and every time Ashten's has managed to exceed our expectations. The staff are professional, knowledgeable, personable, and customer focused. The appetizers, entrees, and desserts are beautifully presented and sensory delights. Best examples: Ashten's salad, the crab cake sandwich, any of the daily local fish specialties, and for dessert, orange ginger cake with blood orange sorbet and flourless chocolate cake with whipped Paradox Farm chevre!!!"

  • "I took a female friend to Ashten's for her birthday. We enjoy many of our local restaurants but Ashten's was her choice and, as usual, it did not disappoint. The service is attentive but not hovering and the menu still offers some of her all-time favorites with plenty of special appetizers and entrees du jour. Over the years we have only eaten upstairs in the dining room because of the menu and the ambiance. For such a small room, even at full occupancy, there is a very romantic atmosphere that makes it easy to feel alone with your dinner partner."

  • "The menu had selections from fish, pork, chicken, and beef as well as vegetarian and the quality of preparation and service was of a high quality. Portions were very generous and the wine selection was superb. I would recommend Ashten's for a special occasion such as an anniversary as the setting is intimate enough for conversation. Wait service was attentative and fast for hand-prepared dishes. All-in-all, we will be going back. The only notable downside was not with the restaurant, but with the lack of parking out front streetside, especially on Friday or Saturday, so arrive 10 minutes early to avoid being late for your reservation."

  • "My husband and I stopped by Ashten's on NYE for a dinner date. We had a small table for two near the front of the restaurant. It was pretty quiet and made for nice conversation. The food was absolutely delicious and service was supurb. We enjoyed our experience and plan to make Ashten's a regular date night."

  • "We arrived early for our reservation and had the restaurant to ourselves for a while. We enjoyed some wine leisurely while we studied the menu. The Foley pinot noir was just perfect for sipping. While the entrees looked tasty, we decided on a selection of four appetizers, two of which were on the menu and two of which were specials. All were excellent. We were staying in Pinehurst but found the 15 minute drive to be well worth it."

  • "We had a reservation for 9, but ended up going early, around 5, and the folks at Ashten's accommodated us. The tables are nicely dressed with white linen, and the atmosphere is formal but cozy. I'm a vegetarian, and the butternut squash lasagna was exquisite. My only minor complaint is that it was a la carte, so it looked a little naked on the plate. And the food is a bit pricey for the portions. That said, the dinner biscuits are tasty, and the waitress refilled our basket a couple of times. I dined with my husband and another couple, and we were able to hold a conversation without shouting. Everyone in my party enjoyed his or her meal, and, overall, I would recommend Ashten's."

  • "Ashten's is simply one of the best dining spots in the Sandhills area. It's great for a casual dinner or for a special occasion. I can always expect a great meal and the setting is unique and comfortable. This is our "go-to" spot for date nights and when we have out of town visitors."

  • "Every time we come to Southern Pines / Pinehurst we have to get our Ashten's "fix". The food is always outstanding - it's one of the best places in the area for diners who are "foodies" - though the restaurant is in no way pretentious. The service is always really good too - very experienced, great attitude, knowledgeable, and everyone seems to have each others backs."

  • "We love Ashten's because: (1) the food is locally sourced and always the highest quality; (2) Ashley trains her staff to a consistently very high standard of service; (3) the ambiance is welcoming and comfortable; (4) it consistently makes us feel that we had a great time for the money. Best menu items are Ashten's Salad (with or without extras), grilled romaine salad, apple and local beet salad, crab cake sandwich, the real French Fries, any local fish special on the menu, and the desserts."
