  • "As a first-timer at ASH, it definitely exceeded my expectations. This is the perfect spot for a week night dinner with girlfriends or a romantic dinner date. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. They have a decent wine selection but not over-the-top or overwhelming which i prefer. I definitely plan to visit again."

  • "The noise volume rendered our experience as a painful one. Uncomfortable levels of noise...ears hurt! We welcome noise and a buzz in restaurants, but literally, everyone around us was equally as annoyed. Would not go back, although the food was good. Ridiculous experience."

  • "We were very disappointed with this restaurant. I had bought a deck of coupons in support of arts wave a couple weeks before. Cumin was one of the restaurants, since ASH is the same owner I thought for sure they would accept the coupon. They didn't, weren't exactly nice about it, and on top of it - the bill was super expensive for what we got. ASH should not be more expensive then a night out at Metropole or Sotto where the food is of much better quality."

  • "I don't quite know how to describe it, but it's like they just slapped a new name and a new (cheaper) menu on Cumin and called it Ash. The decor and ambiance is poor and needs an overhaul. It was dated. tried to stick us at a table right in the middle of the main walkway with no other tables around us, but when people arriving kept flanking our table to pass we asked for a new seat. The food was OKAY but completely overpriced. After talking to a few friends we all agreed - not somewhere we'd go back."

  • "We met another couple for dinner at Ash American Fare. It was the first time for all of us. It had a fun energetic atmosphere and although I was a little concerned about being seated in the bar, it ended up being really fun. Our server, Zak was spectacular and dealt so well with all of our outgoing group. The food was all very good and unique. I had the mushroom lasagna and it was delicious! All 4 of us enjoyed our meals. I would definitely return. It was a Friday night and pretty filled up but the service was outstanding and the food was served hot and in a timely fashion. A great new option for dining in Hyde Park!"

  • "What a nice evening! The food was fabulous and the atmosphere was a great combination of casual and elegant all at the same time. The burgers were decadent, but I was able to balance it out nicely with a light classic salad appetizer. However, one of my dinner companions decided to 'double-down' and had the short-ribs/gravy/frites appetizer along with his burger, and felt he had gone to a foodie's 'Glutton Heaven'. A little something for everyone!"

I liked the single pricing for apps, salads, entrees. The wine list was great. The food was good--I had mussels and trout. Both good. Overall a lovely evening."

  • "This place is one of my new favorites. The menu has local and unique items. The appetizers and entrees were amazing. The service was the best. Casual environment with great local food. The Cincinnati inspired menu items were fantastic. The only down side was the desserts. I would have given this place a 5 star if the desserts had been better. But I can overlook the desserts because everything else was so great. We will definitely be returning."

  • "I thought the food overall was pretty good, but not outstanding which the prices would lead you to believe. Paella was so hot it was still boiling when delivered to table so could not eat for very long time. Mussel appetizer was OK, nothing to write home about. Burgers were very good, but fries were OK and homemade ketchup tasted more like tomato sauce. Overall, it was OK and prices are too high for OK food."

  • "Fans of Cumin will be pleasantly surprised by it's replacement, Ash American Fare. Same owner and space, taken in a whole new direction food-wise. The Bistro-style menu has something for everyone with an emphasis on gournet, creative and inspired burgers. My husband had a delicious, tender and juicy burger topped with lump crabmeat and lobster. My daughter and I split the steak and pommes frites with a side of Brussels sprouts. Half the challenge when ordering steak (or a burger) is getting the temperature right. We both ordered ours medium and much to our delight, it came out neither underdone or nor overdone and had great flavor. The Blackberry cake with cream was a perfect ending."

  • "My husband ordered steak no complaints there. My meal was a disaster and the reaction and service even worse. I ordered chicken. My chicken came, it was rubbery and tough (I never tasted any chicken like this) I told the waiter, a young woman came out and offered me something else, I took a salad she said it would come right away, it took 10 minutes so i got to watch my husband eat. The owner came by and said the cook had used the soup chicken. That made no sense at all. Then the worst part, while they removed the chicken from the bill, they charged for the replacement salad and everything else. They made no accommodation for their unacceptable food and service. They took no responsibility for their inedible meal. We won't be back."

  • "Our group arrived on time for our reservation and our drink order was promptly taken and delivered to our table. However, it all went downhill from there. After our meal order was placed, we waited two hours for our entrees with no apology or explanation from our server or other staff. I will certainly not be returning!"

  • "Alex...you've done it again! While we miss Cumin...we love Ash! The Hot Ash martini is truly dynamic and delicious. The warm mushroom salad is something I'd eat everyday. I had the Pecan Trout with a purée under it that I wanted to lick clean. M had the fish and grits that was perfectly cooked...the grits creamy but sturdy and the halibut was delicate and moist. It was simply a well done and challenging menu and we had a marvelous time! Hey Ruby...watch out!"

  • "I try to eat healthy, but figured every restaurant has to have some healthy options. I ordered the beet salad and side dish of brussel sprouts.The salad was very small, although good. The waitress said the side items were big enough to share with the table, but the brussel sprouts came in a very small bowl and were dripping with oil. I ordered a cocktail called the "Hot Ash," which is a vodka martini with olive juice and blue cheese stuffed olives. I love olives, but this had a very smoky favor. I could not drink more than 2 sips. The service was very slow. We had a party of 4 and it took about 45 mintues to get our food. If you like burgers, they do have some pretty interesting combinations on the menu. But be prepared to pay $15 for one."

  • "Given that M is one of my favorite resturants, I was completely disappointed in Ash. For $15 a burger I expected at the very least that it would be cooked correctly. No pink in sight and totally dry. Everyone at our table said the same thing. Great concept and has potential but the food was so-so and not prepared well. It seems the only thing that is consistent is the poor execution. Hopefully things get better for Ash."

  • "One of the most creative and delicious menus in Cincinnati, and at a reasonable price to boot! All appetizers are $9, gourmet burgers $15, and full entrees $20. Appetizers of Brussel sprouts, mushrooms, pistachios and goat cheese was an absolutely delightful combination of flavors and textures, as was the short ribs with bacon, fries, and 2cheeses. The pecan entrusted trout and asparagus entree was even better as was my friend's wine & mushroom burger. I will be back to try all the others! The only stumble was the chef's attempt at adding salt to the mousse, but they apologized and sent us home with an absolutely delicious replacement. My only regret is that as more people find this gem it will be impossible to get a reservation :)"

  • "In the location previously known as Cumin has risen from the "Ashes" a new American cuisine restaurant. Ash American Fare has a simple menu proposition: 4 price points. Appetizers and small sharing plates are $9. Burgers are $15. Entrees are $20 and sides only $5. The service was prompt and attentive but not omnipresent. The beet salad was delicious and well seasoned. The braised lamb shank was an absolute steal: $20 got me the lamb, roasted cauliflower, grilled asparagus and mashed red potatoes. Easily double that at any Manhattan bistro. And the lamb was prepared perfectly! A good start and great addition to the Hyde Park East neighborhood!"

  • "I mourn for Cumin. While the first course was worthy, we were not at all impressed by the menu heavily dominated by burgers. We tried two of the burgers highly recommended by our server only to be disappointed by an almost pre-processed burger with house made condiments that were over salted. Other than a paint job, the interiors are almost identical. If marketing to families in the surrounding neighborhoods, then ASH has hit its mark. To the loyal Cumin fan, it does not exist in these ashes!"

  • "Having enjoyed the evolving menu of Cumin over the years I was expecting some great choices for my first visit to Ash and I was not disappointed. My selection of the lamb shank was tender and flavorful atop a bed of mashed potatoes surrounded by a rich au jus. My companion opted for the burger topped wth crab and lobster bearnaise which she enjoyed very much along with the accompaniment of addictive French fries. Our waiter looked after us even though the room was quite busy. We enjoyed chatting with Alex, the owner, as he made his rounds to each table. He has much to be proud of in Ash. We are looking forward to working through the menu with the expectation that the next experience will match the satisfaction of our first visit."

  • "Service was great--professional, warm and knowledgeable about the menu--which made for a good overall dining experience. Restaurant ambiance was upbeat. Decor was a bit confused. Food was a bit conservative/traditional and nothing to write home about, relative to Cumin. Price point was a little lower than Cumin but at the expense of becoming like so many other mid-range restaurants in the area. We miss the adventurous options and refinement of Cumin. Probably wouldn't frequent this restaurant, would be good for those that live in the neighborhood and want to get a casual bite."
