I'm not sure about the comment section on OpenTable, because I made a request for a rose the restaurant seemed unaware of. Still, a good restaurant.

Overrated. None of the four in our party would return. Dishes were fine, but there was nothing outstanding about any of them. Server really laid on the upsell, convincing my wife to try a salad that was really not very good.

  • We love Indian food and had
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

We love Indian food and had three wonderful restaurants near our California home for a number of years. We thought Cumin was an elegant restaurant, but we didn't care for the food choices. For example, the tandoori chicken dishes were smothered in gravy. The menu indicated that there would be gravy, but my dish had enough gravy for about three dishes. What I happen to like about tandoori is that it typically doesn't have gravy. I concluded that while it's a lovely and classy place with very good service, it simply doesn't have the food I like to eat in an Indian restaurant. Beer selection was good and very reasonably priced - they even had good non-alcohlic beer which is what I drink. Outdoor seating looked liked it would be nice too.

Do you share the comments for the maitre d'hotel with them before we arrive? I left a note that this was a special anniversary dinner. There was absolutely no acknowledgement of that by the staff.

  • We went to dinner last Thursday

We went to dinner last Thursday evening with another couple. None of us have been to Cumin before and we all loved it. The weather was great so we sat outside. Our server was excellent. The cocktails, salads, appetizers, entrees and desserts were really delicious. The individual cocktail shakers you're served with when you order a cocktail are fun. The mix of flavors and textures made it a memorable dinner. Then there's Alex, the co-owner and general manager. You can tell he loves people and he really made our night outstanding. We'll be back!!!

Attentive, personable service. Alex (the owner) makes it a point to greet people and make them feel at home and he personally advises about his favorite wines for the menu chosen. Lovely presentation of meal. Due to popularity, sometimes there are long waits for the food, but it is always excellent in quality.

  • Fun restaurant for get-togethers
    avndkVIP

Fun restaurant for get-togethers with friends, the appetizers are great for groups and the wine list is fun without being excessively expensive. The service was excellent, though the main course was delivered at a very sedate pace, it wasn't so slow as to be noticeable. Dessert was fantastic, and as a dessert wine enthusiast I found the Quinto de Noval ruby to be a great way to finish off the evening. Though I am not crazy about Indian food, I believe I have found a new appreciation for it in Cumin. A wonderful experience.

  • The food is beautifully presented

The food is beautifully presented and it is worth it just for the desserts. The decor is lovely but the layout of the restuarant makes it appear that the wait staff is "running" everywhere having to manuveur their way through the tables. The waiters have so many things, the wine glasses, the chargers, the appetizer plate, etc. to bring and take away - perhaps that added to the "running" impression. They were busy! Though it was loud you could not hear what other people were saying at other tables - which puts the noise level between moderate and loud but on the loud side. This was our second visit and I would go again.

Cumin is that rare mix of fine food, friendly staff, and creative cooking that makes it worthwhile to experiment with new places. This was our first time there, but it will not be the last, and we would recommend that anyone in the mood for fine dining with a modern twist take a swing through Hyde Park and pick anything off the menu... you won't regret it.

  • The wine list needs work.
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005VIP

The wine list needs work. They need more California selections. I would rate their wine pricing moderate. Desserts are great but a little pricey for what you get. Our chocolate molten cake was served in a coffee cup with a spiced pear and was north of $7. Overall we liked the restaurant. Service was great. The only other drawback is the parking. If you can't get one of the meters in front, you have to park on one of the many side streets in the surrounding area, which in our case was a brisk 5 minute walk to the restaurant.
