Diner Reviews
  • "Beautiful inside! Food was great, in particular the braised short ribs. We ordered pizza and meatballs for appetizers, both of which were great. Our waiter was awesome though he disappeared for long periods at times, but he made helpful suggestions. Wine was top-notch as well."

  • "Hi, I told the waiter I was gluten intolerant and asked if I could order the burger without the bun. He assured me the burger was without breadcrumbs so that would no problem. when my entre came, it was only a burger in a frying pan, no French fries or salad or cheese or basil dressing as indicated on the menu. My friend got the wrong pizza. I asked him where the other items to my meal were and he said the fries had gluten. So finally, he brought me reg. fries. and then took back the rare burger and 20 minutes later I got another burger this time with cheese and fries and salad. it took 1 hour from the time we ordered for us to get what we actually ordered."

  • "Great experience-but the waiter was a bit...socially awkward. The manager took care of us though and made sure we had a great night!"

  • "To try to sit and enjoy a meal and conversation would never happen in this resturant. The music was so loud, we couldn't hear each other. never even stayed for dinner, we left after a glass of wine."

  • "This was my fourth visit and although the menu changes each time, I always find something delicious. There is a beautiful modern fireplace in the bar area that is very welcoming, as were the staff. The background music is loud but upbeat."

  • "Asselina had great food, phenomenal drinks and superb service. I had the Dionusia cocktail which is great, but can get very sweet with the second one. We also had the braised short ribs and the lasagna which both were so great. Our server was very attentive and the DJ played all of our favorite songs, but we were still able to enjoy our conversation. Would definitely go back!"

  • "It's a common misconception that places fit for a romantic evening are dim and quiet and the loud places are often rowdy. Asellina breaks all stereotypes of such sort providing a romantic venue with an entertaining kick given their elegant image paired with their excellent DJ. Overall great experience"

  • "The food was Italian, but the atmosphere was contemporary, not mom-and-pop! The service was also very attentive and professional without being in your face. I started with the meatball appetizer which was great! I definitely recommend it. The meatballs were soft and delicious, but the cheese melted over them and the marinara were even better. Plus they gave you two pieces of grilled bread which had a great, tasty char (not burnt) which was perfect for soaking up the sauce. For my main course, I had the chicken milanese...which was good, but very salty and otherwise simple. I would go back, but I would probably get one of their pasta dishes which admittedly looked more interesting than the milanese anyways."

  • "Great food, service, and ambiance. A must try if in NYC."

  • "I would definitely come back to this place, great food and service. I am only giving it 4 stars because my dish was good but not great. Not the restaurants fault but mine for not making a smart decision. Anyways, the waiter was okay, he never checked in with us reason for 3 stars. I would go back just for the food."

  • "I would not recommend this restaurant for breakfast. The food wasn't great. The servers were asking if we were done after 2 bites of food. Then came back when we still had half our food on our plates. The restaurant was almost empty so they did not need our table or to hurry us. They didn't come by to ask if we wanted more coffee or tea. They didn't come by to fill our classes with water. We had to find them to be our bill."

  • "I've been here for lunch a few times. The food is quite delicious but the service is sub-par. The service always starts out good, but as soon as meals are delivered the servers disappear and you're left with empty water glasses. I had to flag down the hostess to ask for my check. The check arrived and I put my credit card down. Fifteen minutes later it was still sitting on the table. I then held the check and credit card in the air and needed to wave my arms to attract the attention of our waiter who was watching from the bar area but for some reason didn't feel like coming back. I shouldn't have to beg someone to take my money - especially at the steep prices they charge for lunch."

  • "Went here for Restaurant Week dinner. I had the shrimp polenta (very good), the chicken saltimbocca (good) and the flourless chocolate cake (fair). I also tried the eggplant ravioli (poor). Service was friendly and attentive. The place was modern and nicely decorated."

  • "The restaurant is located in the Gansevort Hotel which makes it really cool...the ambiance was fun and hip but the food was just ok. The drinks were yummy so I would go back and hang out at the bar for drinks and apps"

  • "Really enjoyed Asellina - had the beet salad and chicken parm and they were both great. They also have a nice cocktail menu. I went on a Saturday night, so was in the mood for the loud-ish music and hot-spotty (for midtown anyway) feel, would not have been ideal for a quiet/romantic night - but I believe its a little more low-key on weekdays. Service was awesome. Will definitely be back, and highly recommend - for dinner or even just a drink at the bar."

  • "The food, ambience and service was great. Asselina is reasonably priced and has a great vibe. I wouldn't classify the food as fine dining but good for the price and is a great destination for dinner with mates or a partner."

  • "Food was decent, although deserts were much better than entrées. we had lunch there, and the server was pleasant enough but not skilled at being a server. nothing ticks me off more than when a server picks up the plate of one person who is done, while the other is still eating. I felt like they wanted us to leave, constantly returning to clear things. I would not return just because I hate being rushed out of a place, especially when the place was practically empty. this restaurant will not survive."

  • "Brunch was great but for dinner they messed up both times...they served us meat even though we speciified very clearly that we were vegetarians."

  • "The servers need to be trained in when to take dishes from the table. Generally, dishes are removed when all diners have finished their meals. Food is excellent, space divine."

  • "Unreal (in a good way). Service, food, wine/cocktail list can't be beat. We came here to celebrate my brother's engagement and could not have walked away more pleased. Bravo."

  • "We went there on New Year's Day for there highly anticipated bottomless brunch. The venue is beautiful. Terrible waiter who clearly thinks he is more fit to be on the silver screen than waiting tables but unfortunately darling sadly that is your job. Food was on the dry side. Toasts burned. Understandable it was New Year's Day the chief is probably hangover. Overall there was a lot of anticipation but we all go home disappointed."

  • "Our group of three couples chose Asellina for dinner on a rececent visit to NYC. We look for good food with a special atmosphere. Asellina fit the bill. The restaurant is in the Hotel Gansevoort on 27th and Park. The restaurant is modern and stylish. Our server was extremely friendly and made us feel at home immediately. The menu offered a great selection of items leaning to Italian style food. Recommend the meatballs and salmon tartar starters. Our group raved about branzino, short ribs, and pasta with clams. Chicken parm was only OK. Wines are pricey. Our group throughly enjoyed Asellina and would go back."

  • "We've been there several times in the past and always had a good experience, so we were surprised that dinner was a huge disappointment (we discovered later that they have a new chef, which may explain things). After placing our orders, the server came back to tell us that they were out of two of the main dishes we had ordered. So we reordered. When the reordered main dishes came, my wife discovered her dish had an ingredient to which she was highly allergic that had not been noted on the menu. Rather than order yet a new main dish, she asked them just to bring her a salad. The main dishes were way over-salted - really awful - and the salad they brought my wife was a plate of salted greens and nothing else! We won't be going back."

  • "i have eaten here before wiht my officemates and found the food to be very good, hence the reason for a special dinner. we were greeted with LOUD rap music, nothing for this special holiday. the food was absolutely terrible. in fact my daughter and i ordered the same dish and it was tasteless. the manager brought it back to the chef and he AGREED! i was terribly embarrassed bc this was my selection of restaurant and hoping to impress my husband, daughter and new son in law. this ruined our Christmas, the holiday that is most important to us. of course we got to order somehting else and the replacement was just as bad. such disappointment and no way to recapture the moment of Christmas."

  • "Actually, I went after an brasilian-american friend tell me about the" best pizza worldwide". It's a greta experience. Good food, amazing service, and honests prices. You can find in the same place romantic couples and happy groups, each one enjoying the night. Good experience at Gramercy Park."

  • "Service for the entire meal was terrible. We waited 1.5 hours from the time we ordered until we were given food. We had to beg for some bread to be brought out before the meal. Even paying the bill and coat check was slow. Food was not good, it lacked flavor. The branzino was cooked well but over dish was not great. The pasta with sausage was dried out, and some noodles were hard."

  • "Another great meal at Asellina. Saffron Strozzapreti was an interesting and delicious pasta. Maybe could have used a bit more saffron flavoring but yummy none the less. Salad was very good and refreshing. Oysters were fresh and nice variety. The short ribs were, in a word, UNBELIEVABLE. Our server, Kyle (I think), was very knowledgable about the menu and made great recommendations. He also wasn't afraid to give his opinions when asked as to which dishes he isn't in love with. That is a big plus in a waiter. Never an inexpensive dinner but well worth the money."

  • "Food was somewhat lackluster, service great. Noise level very lively and a hopping bar scene. If you're looking for a quiet spot this isnt it."

  • "We came here for the thanksgiving special. the food and mood was great, but unfortunately the sweet potatoes were cold, but altogether delicious. we really loved the food. for example, the turkey and butternut squash ravioli was really, really good. we also loved the starter meat and cheese platter. desert was very impressive as well. we would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for an amazing restaurant in the city."

  • "My friend and I dined at Asellina recently on a Friday night and were more than pleasantly surprised. The restaurant in the Gansevoort Hotel was drop dead beautiful. Despite the large number of tables and the DJ spinning cool music, the noise level did not impede conversation. Everything on the menu was excellent. I was not prepared to like the restaurant as much as I did. Often trendy restaurants lack quality food. We loved everything and will certainly go back again."
