A word from Ascari Enoteca
We love food. We love wine. We love racing. So we named Ascari Enoteca after one of our heroes, 1950's Italian racing legend, Alberto Ascari. He was as famous for his appetite for food and wine as he was for his talent for racing, earning him the nickname "ciccio" – Italian for 'chubby'.
Ascari Enoteca is a neighborhood locale where people come to linger over a simple, delicious meal washed down by a superb bottle of wine (or two). Here you'll find homemade pastas made fresh in house every single day, plus a wine list featuring well-known varietals from across Italy and more than a few undiscovered gems.

  • "Huge disappointment compared to past visits. I hope this was a one-off experience and not the new reality at Ascari. Food was mediocre and the special, which I had, wasn't at all special - rubbery under-cooked seafood. The music gradually got louder as the evening progressed which made it impossible to have a conversation. This is/was one of the best dinner spots in Leslieville so I hope it was just a bad night for them."

Customer service was excellent - knowledgeable staff who provided us with recommendations for both food and wine. Highly recommend dessert after meal, felt like being in Italy with espresso and cannoli. We were extremely pleased with our dinner for two."

  • "We've gone to Ascari many times before, and had wonderful experiences. However, had our first time been the dinner we had this week, I'd say that we probably would never go again. Further, if just one thing had been off, we would have shrugged our shoulders and understood. However, from start to finish the evening was poor! Our server (who perhaps was new/training? we'd never seen her) was very lax, and the food, once it arrived, was swimming in oil. There was so much oil in mine that it looked like soup! The place was really noisy, which in and of itself would've been bearable; the combo of really awful service (our food was dropped off and that was the last we saw of her!), poor food and noise made it a regrettable experience."

  • "I tried Ascari Enoteca on Monday with a friend (half price on wine bottles on Mondays). The service was excellent, and the menu offered many very unique items. We tried fried risotto balls as an appetizer, delicious. Both our main dishes were also fantastic; the sauces were simple but had a very special twist to them which made them absolutely unforgettable. Will definitely go back! A must-try in Leslieville."

  • "Got to the restaraunt on time, ordered cocktails, wine, apps, and mains. Finishing up our bottle of wine at 8:14 the waiter says he needs us to settle up he has an 8:30 reservation. Their were 10 empty seats in the place. I've come to restaurants and they've told me your table isnt ready it will be a few minutes but I've never been asked to leave with wine in my glass and empty table available. "

  • "The food was great, as always. I would go to Ascari on the strength of the brussels sprouts alone! The experience this time around left a bit to be desired, however. Staff seemed hurried and frazzled, and I never appreciate being told, as soon as I walk in the door, what time I have to leave, especially when I have taken the time to make a reservation, and have brought my Mother in from out of town for an early Mother's Day celebration. Dining out is about more than just the food. In this case, the food was impeccable, but the experience was somewhat disappointing. I'll hope for better next time."

  • "The broccollini fritti was divine, as was the buffalo mozzarella with salsa verde. In fact, all of the (over 8) starters that our group ordered were creative, delicious, and cooked to perfection. The pastas were very good as well, with the Puttanesca being our group's favorite. Our server, Robin was sweet, knowledgeable, and efficient. We had a wonderful time and will be back soon. "

  • "The first thing to charge our senses was the intensely wonderful aroma of the kitchen's grill. It wasn't very busy for a Wednesday evening- which was what were hoping for. Service was warm and familial. The warmed crushed olives were delicious, and the orecchiette and carbonara pastas were just right. BANANA FRITTERS!!!"

  • "On a rainy night the food and the service was outstanding but the entrance way and the sterile decor was not very welcoming or warming. Since there were few diners on a wet April Wednesday it was extremely quiet but I imagine on a busy night the noise level would be unbearable with all the glass and hard surfaces. The excellent diverse unique menu was Toronto Bistro priced but the wine and liquor were way over priced. If I was in the neighbourhood I might return but I doubt that I will make a special trip to go there again."

  • "Fantastic starters specifically made for sharing. Also great individual appetizers. Strong pasta focus in the mains, but these are so good that you wouldn't want anything else. Mains are appropriately sized so that you are not loosening your belt if you have already had a starter. The desserts are made in-house. All three of them are great. The wine selections are carefully curated and staff is knowledgeable. A great night out. "

  • "Our first time visit to Ascari Enoteca which coincided with our 28th anniversary - was perfect in every way. We do get around town (and beyond) and have had the opportunity to check out many fine dining opportunities. I must say that we were very very impressed with every touch point of Ascari Enoteca from the service to the ambiance to the spectacular food. The food was deliciously different with a new take on ensalada verde and a grilled radish salad - to the special that night - fettuccine w/broccoli, lemon, tidbits of crispy smokey pancetta - a dish we hope finds itself a permanent spot on the menu. All highly recommended. We will be back! "

  • "This was my first time attending Ascari Enoteca and I must say that I was impressed. The server was attentive, but no overly in your space. She picked up well on social cues and I found it was easy to approach her if we had any questions. She was informative and welcoming. The food was delicious. The home made pasta and the presentation were excellent. Being Italian myself, this definitely reminded me of my nonno's cooking. I appreciated the heart of Italian feel and enjoyed the environment overall. The open kitchen was a neat concept and I appreciated the process. The food was timely, the environment was positive and the service was on point. I do see myself coming back to Ascari. "

  • "I've lived in Leslieville for 5 years, and have passed by this restaurant going to and from work for the last 3. When asked by my cousin to choose a restaurant, this is one of the first to pop into my head since I've always been intrigued by it. Great ambience, very personable service, and great food and wine. The wine list features many diverse wines from various regions of Italy. All-in-all, very good and definitely a "must-try" once! Being someone who enjoys cooking in my spare time, I doubt I'd rush to go back since I could make several of the menu items myself at home. My only disappointment with the restaurant was the menu - very small, limited, and no alternatives to only pasta entrees."

  • "the starters for our party of four were outstanding and set the bar high. the pasta mains were good but not quite as exciting as the starters. i had the special which was described as made with a heavy cream & madeira sauce, but there wasn't really much evidence of cream when it came. it may have cooked off as it seemed like maybe it had been kept hot in the oven too long. all in all an enjoyable dining experience. if the mains could reach the heights of the starters, this place would be full-on great."

  • "Our son's birthday was on the 10th and we had wanted to take him and his girlfriend out for a lovely dinner to celebrate. Because the restaurant is in their neighborhood, they have enjoyed it many times - but it was our first and we loved it! The ambiance was lovely - small and intimate, the service was excellent - our waitress was experienced, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly and the food and wine were excellent! It was a lovely evening and we will definitely go back again. What a neighborhood gem!!"

  • "This place has been on the list of places to try for some time - we've driven by it and it always looked packed and cool, and of course, the reviews have been very positive. Finally made it this Friday and we weren't disappointed! The bartender made a great martini, the starters were fantastic, the pasta special (featuring chicken livers) was scrumptious and our server recommended an awesome bottle of red that matched our palates and food very well. Too full for dessert we walked home to burn off some calories. The only downside or disappointment was one of mains - the pasta featuring the duck (on the regular menu), was bland in comparison to the featured pasta special; we won't have it again when we go back .... and we will."

  • "This is the fourth time I have been to Ascari and the experience is always excellent. The server was attentive and friendly without being intrusive and the food was great. I do a lot of Italian cooking and I enjoy going to Ascari because their pasta dishes are not dishes I would ever even think about creating at home. The combinations are unique but not so unusual as to turn you off. The wine list is always interesting. The sommelier makes great efforts to find wines with unknown grapes or from little known areas in addition to the tried and true, and at a fair price."

  • "This was great if you are in the mood for pasta. The appetizers are huge, so no need to order more than one, and only then if you are really hungry. The pasta was hit and miss. Service was ok, not really that knowledgeable, and they left us hanging on our drinks for a while before delivering them. I'd likely go back as it's a good place for comfort food, and the duck confit pasta was really delicious."

  • "We have been to ascari many times, but I am always impressed. This visit was no different. I tend to think East end restaurants are not as amazing as I'd like them to be, but ascari has always gone above and beyond my expectations. We were dining with my 17 month old son, and my parents. We had the first seating at 5:30 in order to avoid disturbing others and accommodate my sons bed time. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The food was delicious, my dad was asking for seconds of every course. We left feeling satisfied and content that we could indeed stay in the neighbourhood for a great meal! Thank you ascari!"

  • "Don't get me wrong, I loved Ascari and plan to go back. The food was outstanding and the service attentive. But like so many restaurants in Toronto, the noise level was really annoying. Doubly-annoying is the "Rater Your Dining Experience" comment form where a high "Noise Level" can only be ranked as "energetic." At Ascari it was not energetic. It was just down right annoying to the point where, by 8:30pm I could hardly hear my guest, sitting directly across from me at a small table. Folks, this ain't fun. Ascari needs to hire an architect with acoustical expertise and add some sound-absorbing surfaces. Larry Wayne Richards"

  • "First things first. The deep-fried broccolini doused in parmesian is unmatched anywhere. It is a must to start with that. Afterwards, we split one scallop - yes, one scallop cut in half. Delicious treat for fussy taste buds. Truffled pasta and grilled quail topped off dinner and we followed with the lemon cake - it was actually a lemon flavoured cloud. Will definitely go back there soon."
