A word from Ascari Enoteca
We love food. We love wine. We love racing. So we named Ascari Enoteca after one of our heroes, 1950's Italian racing legend, Alberto Ascari. He was as famous for his appetite for food and wine as he was for his talent for racing, earning him the nickname "ciccio" – Italian for 'chubby'.
Ascari Enoteca is a neighborhood locale where people come to linger over a simple, delicious meal washed down by a superb bottle of wine (or two). Here you'll find homemade pastas made fresh in house every single day, plus a wine list featuring well-known varietals from across Italy and more than a few undiscovered gems.

  • "Our son's birthday was on the 10th and we had wanted to take him and his girlfriend out for a lovely dinner to celebrate. Because the restaurant is in their neighborhood, they have enjoyed it many times - but it was our first and we loved it! The ambiance was lovely - small and intimate, the service was excellent - our waitress was experienced, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly and the food and wine were excellent! It was a lovely evening and we will definitely go back again. What a neighborhood gem!!"

  • "This place has been on the list of places to try for some time - we've driven by it and it always looked packed and cool, and of course, the reviews have been very positive. Finally made it this Friday and we weren't disappointed! The bartender made a great martini, the starters were fantastic, the pasta special (featuring chicken livers) was scrumptious and our server recommended an awesome bottle of red that matched our palates and food very well. Too full for dessert we walked home to burn off some calories. The only downside or disappointment was one of mains - the pasta featuring the duck (on the regular menu), was bland in comparison to the featured pasta special; we won't have it again when we go back .... and we will."

  • "We have been to ascari many times, but I am always impressed. This visit was no different. I tend to think East end restaurants are not as amazing as I'd like them to be, but ascari has always gone above and beyond my expectations. We were dining with my 17 month old son, and my parents. We had the first seating at 5:30 in order to avoid disturbing others and accommodate my sons bed time. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The food was delicious, my dad was asking for seconds of every course. We left feeling satisfied and content that we could indeed stay in the neighbourhood for a great meal! Thank you ascari!"

  • "This was great if you are in the mood for pasta. The appetizers are huge, so no need to order more than one, and only then if you are really hungry. The pasta was hit and miss. Service was ok, not really that knowledgeable, and they left us hanging on our drinks for a while before delivering them. I'd likely go back as it's a good place for comfort food, and the duck confit pasta was really delicious."

  • "This is the fourth time I have been to Ascari and the experience is always excellent. The server was attentive and friendly without being intrusive and the food was great. I do a lot of Italian cooking and I enjoy going to Ascari because their pasta dishes are not dishes I would ever even think about creating at home. The combinations are unique but not so unusual as to turn you off. The wine list is always interesting. The sommelier makes great efforts to find wines with unknown grapes or from little known areas in addition to the tried and true, and at a fair price."

  • "Don't get me wrong, I loved Ascari and plan to go back. The food was outstanding and the service attentive. But like so many restaurants in Toronto, the noise level was really annoying. Doubly-annoying is the "Rater Your Dining Experience" comment form where a high "Noise Level" can only be ranked as "energetic." At Ascari it was not energetic. It was just down right annoying to the point where, by 8:30pm I could hardly hear my guest, sitting directly across from me at a small table. Folks, this ain't fun. Ascari needs to hire an architect with acoustical expertise and add some sound-absorbing surfaces. Larry Wayne Richards"

  • "Tried a spaghetti late night menu item on a Monday and it did not disappoint. The cheese was just right. Dessert was unique with a lemon pudding with fresh cream. My favorite item was the wine - of course. A light, dry Italian wine. The 2nd Monday of the month is half priced wine bottles."

  • "First things first. The deep-fried broccolini doused in parmesian is unmatched anywhere. It is a must to start with that. Afterwards, we split one scallop - yes, one scallop cut in half. Delicious treat for fussy taste buds. Truffled pasta and grilled quail topped off dinner and we followed with the lemon cake - it was actually a lemon flavoured cloud. Will definitely go back there soon."

While several east side restos are more flash than quality, this restaurant is an excellent, understated option. The staff were most friendly and the options on the menu were well executed.   • "I arrived close to 10 wishing for a light but inspiring dinner and an excellent glass of wine. I received both. I tried the quail with du puy lentils. Both so good. never underestimate the rich flavouring that can be held by this type of lentil. I decided to add some additional greens and was curious about the seared romaine hearts. I've now taken to pan roasting my romaine at home…Thanks for the inspiration. Service was excellent. The bar comfortable. And the space intimate yet private."

  • "The appetizers are fantastic, the salads in particular are very fresh, well presented and dressings are flavorsome without being overpowering and the Antipasto Ciccio had a lovely selection of cheeses. The Brussel sprouts are also delicious and portion was large enough for our group of four to share. Main courses are a bit of a let down though (second time we have experienced this here) quite bland ( especially the cauliflower ravioli ) The Pasta Puttanesca came out tops for our table . Service is excellent though...... good knowledge of dishes and wine list and very attentive which is not easy when space is very restrictive."

  • "Perfect neighborhood restaurant with a solid menu. For the six of us the experienced looked like it may spiral into an epic fail. The restaurant accepts only cash and debit, but the debit machine was down. So people had to fetch cash from an ATM down the street. With each entry and exit we were blasted with cold air because we were seated by the door. The restaurant was at capacity on a frigid midweek night. It took about an hour to get water and bread, but from thereon the staff and kitchen excelled. The appetizers were amazing, especially the Brussels sprouts and the pasta was fresh and firm. Only misses were the octopus terrine (bitter for some reason) and the duck confit that tasted too much like boiled chicken. Desserts were excellent!"

The food was delicious - our table had the special (fresh sausage) and duck. All freshly prepared and very tasty.
