This last time I was surprised to find a rather downgraded, one page menu that had a Soup-Salad-Appetizer combined list of about 8-9 items, only 5 entrees, and a tasting menu. No specials either. Food was very good although my NY Strip was a little overdone. Was hard to understand our waiter. Very different experience from the last time I was there. Tough with a number of other great places in the immediate area."

The second time we ordered the same tasting menu and were not at all impressed. Although the service was outstanding each time, the food was mediocre the second time. It was a huge disappointment since we were really looking forward to this meal. We had the impression that the chef had left but this was not confirmed."

The restaurant was not busy he was serving two other tables but was absolutely inattentive, had to ask for water twice, did not serve bread basket even after requesting it, did not ask if we wanted another glass of wine and when the food arrived I did mention it to the manager and he did do some damage control. The food definitely made up for the service. For such an exclusive place the service desperately needs improvement."

  • "This elegant hotel restaurant (Mandarin Oriental) offers an eclectic weekend brunch menu. Others in our party opted for more conventional fare (omelets, salads, eggs benedict) and were very happy with their meals. I was more adventurous and ordered a middle-eastern-seasoned egg dish with tomatoes and lamb sausage called shakshouka; It was extraordinarily tasty, with a pleasant, spicy heat. The chef was happy to substitute egg whites for whole eggs on request; the service was outstanding and the quiet atmosphere fostered a relaxed, conversational approach to mealtime. The validated valet parking is reasonably priced and a wonderful amenity on a cold winter's day. Asana is a promising venue for special occasion dining."

The service was very good but the food is not remotely worth the price, and there are far better restaurants in Boston for comparable prices. Not only was the quality lacking but the portions are miniscule. I've never before ordered a 5 course prix fixe and left feeling very hungry.   • "Our December 14th dinner experience was wonderful, starting with a warm reception by the hostess and the perfect seating overlooking Boylston Street. The atmosphere was very nice and tables placed far enough apart to allow for private conversations. Our 5-course Fall tasting meal included a glass of Prosecco sparkling wine and half bottle of white and red wines. We enjoyed all the foods: Sashimi, mushroom soup, brie (?) ravioli, perfectly med-rare-flavorful flat iron steak and stuffed apple dessert for my husband and a custom, de-constructed apple pie w/o nuts for me due to allergies. Christian, our main server, was fabulous (as well as the other server)!! We will definitely return to Asana!!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner there, and it was quiet enough to actually talk--BUT-- the special, which my husband ordered without asking the price, was in the mid one hundreds--about seven times the price of the main course I ordered off the menu. The food was all excellent, however, the service was great, and we could hear ourselves talk, which is itself worth paying a LITTLE more than usual! We still went away happy, if in sticker shock. We would return on a special occasion. It's perfect for that. Lunches are nice, too."

The space is very nice, and the service and food were good, but not remarkable, especially for the price bracket. It sets a certain tone, which is important for some things, but there are too many great options in Boston for me to be back, at least not for breakfast."

  • "I came here for a birthday brunch with a friend and had a great experience. A friend had given me a Gilt City voucher for brunch, which the hostess had asked for when I was being seated. The food was great, and our server was very nice and helpful. Somehow they had found out it was my birthday and brought a platter of desserts, which was very thoughtful! There was some confusion with the voucher at the end, as the hostess had temporarily displaced it, but apologies were made and overall this was a fantastic experience! It is pretty pricey but the food was delicious."

  • "I was at Asana to celebrate my daughter's birthday over brunch. It was a lovely place for it. The ambiance was quiet and relaxing, and the server was attentive and helpful. When he found out it was my daughter's birthday, he brought a tray of dessert with a candle on it. It was a lovely touch. The clam chowder was excellent! Over all, it was a very enjoyable brunch, and we'll be sure to return soon."

  • "Expected more the Mandarin Oriental. Inerior design very attractive. Banquet seats were a bit low. I entered the bar in error and was endlessly ingnored waiting for some attention. I finally hailed bar server who said she would get the hostess, but no one came my way. I finally asked and was directed but not taken to the restaurant. Server was very nice, helpful and informed. Food was very disappointing. Halibut very overcooked, mostly dry, somewhat rubbery and tasteless. My wifes mushroom soup was OK, but not hot. Her tuna shashimi was tasteless. Enjoyed the quiet, an uncommon plus for most restaurants today."

  • "We had a quick dinner before a Red Sox game. They were super busy at the bar, but we were able to get two seats there and the hostess was more than happy to transfer our reservation over. The wage sliders were great and lobster sliders were very good. Due bury oysters were on the menu so I couldn't resist and we shared a dozen. I didn't have dessert, but they all sounded great. I will be a return customer."

  • "Too corporate and stiff, and a jarring lack of hospitality on arrival. We arrived 2 minutes early for our reservation to an empty room and rather than being welcomed we seemed to inconvenience the hostess who said she'd need about five minutes to see if she could take us. Strange start. Our waiter was friendly and knew their very good cellar. The New England clam chowder was flavorful, generous with the clams, but too heavy on cream or butter.The chicken was satisfying — its asparagus accompaniment would have been better without so much Hollandaise. A nice take on profiteroles incorporating cherries. Unfortunately the ice cream was largely melted before the chocolate sauce arrived. The stiff room needs rethinking. The host needs training."
