  • Miss the old Arugula!

Once one of our favorite places, this Party of 8, misses the old Arugula. The apps were very good, but meals were just ok. The portions were very small, some came out cold, and one order was incorrect. They even ran out of the steak-most likely because the selection choice is limited. Unfortunately, until they go back to the old menu and move away from the small/sharing plate style, all 4 couples will not be returning.

We had an excellent meal once again at Arugula. Our waiter Angelo was attentive and very informative. Our appetizers were wonderful, the cheese plate delish, the pasta pockets filled with butternut squash and just with brown buttersquash, dressed with brown butter, sage and candied nuts was delicious, as were the pork, short ribs and hanger steaks. Desert finished it all off wonderfully.

delicious food, modern decor, but the noise level was terrible- voices ( and other sounds) bounce off the hard surfaces of the decor and it was almost impossible to hear the person sitting across from me (not a large table). Love that it is BYOB. I would definitely recommend for the food, but would not recommend generally because of the noise level.

The Restaurent was small, loud, with very bright lights. The wait staff seemed overwhelmed by the volume. There were long lag times between service. The wait staff looked unhappy. The food was variable. Couldn't wait to leave.

Each course took surprisingly long to arrive. Unsure whether this was due to a the kitchen or the waitstaff. When the food arrived, it was not cold or dried out so we assume it was not the fault of the waitstaff. But, it was an unpleasantly long wait between courses. And, as the time extended, our waiter was totally unavailable. Had this been our first visit, we would probably not return.

We've visited Arugula quite a bit in the past, this time was our first visit with the new "small plates" menu. Overall, the food is good... but I can no longer say it's at the top of my "go to" list. As far as I'm concerned, most of the "small plates" are the same things that were on the old menu except a smaller portion and price. I seem to recall Arugula offering a "half plate" in the past, which is basically the same thing they're doing now. I am glad to see they are FINALLY trying to do something about the noise in there... noticed a few baffles up on the ceiling to cut down on the noise bouncing around. The restaurant was about half full for our visit, so not sure how much the treatment helps when the room is full.

Nothing special. Very limited menu. We saw a totally different menu in the magazine in the entry way which showed Filet Mignon, Veal saltimbocca etc. which was not currently offered. Very limited Italian entrees eg: no veal/chicken Parmigiana, marsalla etc. Waited over 30 minutes for main course. Not a fan of PAPER menus, especially at a moderate to higher priced restaurant. No bread on the table. Food was good, but nothing overwhelming. Certainly not the best bang for your buck as far as I'm concerned.

Menu has changed, portions have changed, quality has changed. And not in a good way. When you charge for bread that you purchase 2 doors down, grill and call it artisan, I am insulted. Squid ink with rock shrimp pasta, my old favorite, which had 2-3 jumbo shrimp, has been replaced by small pieces of shrimp and lacking the flavor of the old dish. The antipasto, which was amazing, where you got 2 cheeses, 2 meats, olives, peppers, breadsticks, etc., is now a make your own, at $6 per selection. Again, we were disappointed, small amt of cheese, peppers and olives, lacking any presentation. The mussels, like everything else we ordered, were not as good as the past. Sadly, After this experience, we won't be back.

The last two dining experiences we have had were below par. Most recent has some notable "food misses" which is counter to our historical experience at what had been one of our favorite places in SJ. Not so sure anymore. Service was also well below standard. When complaining about a pasta dish that was cooked too much the response was: "I hear that all the time." Follow-up comment was "I would never order that out at a restaurant". Risotto was dry and thick...almost paste like. Scallops were still good. New menu format leaves a lot to be desired. Bread is n0w "artisanal" and thus must be purchased. Unfortunately, based on two most recent visits, this SJ favorite seems to be slipping and heading in the wrong direction. Disappointing.

we went for farm to fork week expecting vibrant local flavors. after waiting 45 minutes for thr first meal, we should have known the rest of the courses would follow suit. the flavors were ok at best, not truly impressed with any of the dishes. the ideas of the menu were well thought but poorly executed. lastly, the rice pudding dessert, after 2.5 hours, was served warm. our previous experience was wonderful but don't think we will be coming back.

It was Farm to Fork week, so the room was almost full. And very noisy. It would have been hard for a group to converse. We enjoyed our first three courses, but thought the desserts fell flat. They were lacking in taste. The rice pudding was the best of the three. In spite of the crowd, the service was excellent, and the spacing between courses was fine. I was happy with the portion size, but I suspect there were those who thought they were small. All in all, a B to B+ experience.

As a Realtor in the area and a resident close by I'm not sure how I missed this gem until now. It might have been because although it's on a main road, it's not as noticeable as it should be. When I pulled up for my reservation, I thought it was closed until I noticed two people walking in. Anyway... the food was divine, the room is beautiful, the staff was friendly and attentive. It's modern and romantic. The dishes are perfectly portioned for those of us who like to order a few things and have variety. The only thing I was surprised at was they didn't put bread on the table.

Every time we go to Arugula we come away saying "That was fantastic" the food is always an adventure in new and exciting tastes. My husband and I found ourselves sharing bits of food saying "you've got to taste this, or you've got to try that". From the grilled bread with tomato pesto, lobster bisque,Yum, and I had to try the grilled romaine salad, which left me room for only a small plate of scallops,(was that bacon jam on top?) delicious. We really feel this is the best food to be found anywhere and it's right in our own backyard. Lucky us!

The restaurant was extremely noisy. The menu was confusing. The food portions were small. The soup was warm at best. The salad had no taste and was extremely dry. The bread was an ala carte item that was hard and did not even include one piece for the 5 people in our party. The mussels were excellent and served hot. Our waitress was phenomenal. She was very knowledgeable and tried to explain the menu to us. She made some very good suggestions, she was pleasant and she was definitely the best part of my visit to your restaurant.
