A word from Arugula Ristorante
Arugula has a dozen bar seats, several tables and a seasonal patio that we do not take online reservations for. So please try calling us if you don't get the exact time slot you want.

Arugula is elegant Italian dining with the warmth of home in a modern environment, infusing the best of Italian culinary tradition with our contemporary interpretations. We pride ourselves on using ingredients grown based on traditional practices, helping to remind us of our connection to the land and the seasons. We create balanced meals using meats that are naturally raised, in-season organic local produce, and fish and shellfish which is in accordance with Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch guidelines for sustainability. In addition to our regular menus, each evening we print a daily specials sheet of an additional 10 to 15 dishes. This is our playground and often these dishes focus on in-season produce and fresh seafood.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • " The Arugula is a great place to meet friends and enjoy creative, excellent food while being able to converse in a relatively quiet ambience. We and our guests loved it!"

  • "I was looking for an excellent Italian place to take my mom for her birthday. I was impressed with Arugula's Zagat review and I was not disappointed. The atmosphere was ideal, the food impeccable and the whole experience was very authentic. 5 stars!"

  • "We tried 4 new restaurants during 5280 week. They were all wonderful but Arugula was my favorite. Food was very creative, fresh and beautifully served. We all tried something different and every selection was delicious. I would go back just for the coffee! The only thing I would note is that this restaurant had more 5280 menue choices with an upcharge than an other place we went."

  • "The menu selections, the prices, the quality and quantity of the entrees are all excellent. The exceptional service is an added bonus. Arugula, is by far, the best dining option in Boulder"

  • "Enjoyed the food, service was excellent and the noise level, often a problem in a restaurant like this, was not a problem even though almost every table was full. We had a 7:45 PM reservation and were going to be about 10 minutes late, so called ahead - they were very nice and said they'd seat us when we arrived, which they did. My daughter and I shared a chopped kale salad which was great. They split it for us and left the speck off her half since she doesn't eat meat. I had the wild gulf shrimp & orecchiette pasta - so good! Both my husband and daughter ordered off a seasonal menu - another shrimp and pasta dish and mahi mahi. Enjoyed this dinner. Interior ambience was lovely, service attentive and helpful and food great."

  • "The food was excellent, but the service was ridiculously slow. Several times throughout the evening we thought that they must have forgotten is. We wouldn't have minded if only the server had come over to the table to let us know that it was coming -- eventually......."

  • "You can go last minute, casually, or make an evening of it. Overall - finest food in Boulder."

  • "We had a wonderful time at arugula. Great good and good service. I highly recommend the apple salad and house made mozzarella with pesto. All the food was fresh and well thought out. The molten lava cake was to die for."

  • "The food is excellent, and there are many great gluten-free options on the menu. Has a nice patio area for outside dining in the warmer months. Small restaurant, so reservations are important."

  • "always predictably excellent service and menu with variety"

  • "Now you do! Interesting menu, amazing wine list, and the service....the waiter discreetly brought over a glass with toothpicks when he noticed the need."

  • "Arugula delighted us for restaurant week. Great gnocchi, lovely warm bread and the mushroom appetizer melted in my mouth. I'll be back for happy hour!"

  • "My dinner was delicious, my friend and I had a really nice, relaxed meal, I'm pregnant and all my food questions were answered by helpful wait staff, and my water glass never got below half full all night! It really was a lovely place and a nice dinning atmosphere. I would definitely go here again, especially when I'm not pregnant and can truly appreciate the delicious cheeses and wine menu!"

  • "Every dish we had (party of 4) was excellent in preparation and presentation and above all TASTE! A couple of our party were a little late having gotten the time wrong and the server and hostess did not make us feel as if we created a problem which was so nice. They did not rush us and allowed us to savor every morsel. I would go back to this restaurant."

  • "I had dinner from the Restaurant Week menu. There was a large variety of choices available, which is not always the case for restaurants on their Restaurant week menus. The quality and taste of the dishes were excellent. The portions are small, but with three courses and bread we were quite satisified."
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Very attentive service, terrific menu choices (also labeled for gluten free or vegan diners) and of course the option to choose from the regular menu as well. A perfect choice!"

  • "The food was great, but the prices made the restaurant feel a bit pretentious for it's location in a plaza without a view in Boulder. It was restaurant week, and they offered a 3 course special for $30. However, all but 3 of the options had an upcharge of $2-3 dollars which meant there was only 1 combination of 3 items you could select to get the "special" price of $30. Mine was actually $38 with the upcharges. The prices (my husband and I ate for $85, he ordered a single item a la carte) were a bit pretentious for Boulder, especially having recently enjoyed Italian style meals in upscale restaurants Venice, Florence, and Rome at a lower cost! If you want good food at high prices, with an air of haughtiness, this is the restaurant for you!"

  • "I went to Arugula for a dinner with friends. I had an excellent tomato fennel soup - perfect seasonings and texture and beautiful presentation. My salmon with skin on was tender and moist, served with some wonderful vegetables. My daughter ordered the Bolognese pasta, and it took that dish to a new level. Fabulous. My friends had the mahi mahi, which was wonderful, and a prawn dish that was tasty and spicy. Key like pie was traditional and well done for dessert."

  • "We had a lovely, romantic dinner. The Chef prepared excellent, special order, vegan options."

  • "This is a favorite but it was a little disappointing this time. I chalk it up to the day after Feb. 14, so things were a little thin. Salad and soup were fantastic, tenderloin was, too, but the lamb chops were extremely fatty. I have never seen that before. The waiter was great to steer us clear of the napoleons because the lemon curd wasn't good. That's why I think they were just at the bottom of the barrel after a big night. It is usually great."

  • "Elegant food which is also appropriate for people restricted to gluten-free eating. My friends and family go there frequently for happy hour or for dinner. The food is of high quality, well prepared, and beautifully presented. The happy hour menu offers a variety of options which can, on occasion, be put together to create a light meal. The atmosphere is quiet enough to allow pleasant conversation."

  • "Excellent service with remarkably creative and scrumptious sauces, herbs and textures along with great presentations. Every course was a delight to be savored as only the most quality sources and ingredients were secured and prepared with excellence."

  • "For my first trip to Boulder, a business partner suggested we eat here. Absolutely a great call. I had the duck confit gnocchi and it was divine!"

  • "We had a great experience. My wife had the tomato basil soup appetizer and I have the sausage on ciabatta. She had the fish and I had the pork tenderloin. Everything was terrific. We shared the lemon cake for dessert. Service was attentive."

  • "I had tried this restaurant when it opened a few years ago and was unimpressed by it's overly precious menu. They are now preparing excellent meals that connect with my taste buds. The service has also improved substantially."

  • "This was our first visit to Arugula and we can't wait to return. The food was excellent and my dining companion said her salad with apples, figs and Gorgonzola was one of the best she had ever had. The mussels were delicious and the Pinot Grigio based sauce disappeared from the plate with the help of the bread served on the side."

  • "Chefs Alec Schuler and Sven Hedenas are the best in Boulder. The tastes in every course are exquisite."

  • "Three of us went. We selected it because it is located very near to where we were staying. We were all pleasantly surprised by the the quality of the food and the professional service. We each had a salad and a pasta dish. There was no overlap in our choices and all six dishes were excellent."

  • "It was great! We had a Travelzoo coupon. My friend and I had the house salad which was fresh and delicious. Now - we don't eat pork or shellfish, so our menu options are somewhat limited. I had two glasses of the Malbec and they were superb! For my antipasta, I had the caprese salad - fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, etc. Tomatoes were out of season, but the dish was still enjoyable. For my secondi (second course), I had the bison with red sauce and the orriette pasta. It was delicious. My friend had some kind of roast which was also very tender. They have a daily menu as well as the regular menu. I had almond cheesecake for dessert. Honestly, I was stuffed by then but it was so good."

  • "Nice environment, not too noisy even when full Service quite good, she had to go to the kitchen to ask about one ingredient Tomato soup fine, not special Prosciutto too fatty; toppings & horse. cream nice Friend loved mozzarella/tomato/basil combo The saffron risotto is OK but needs umph; know it's meant to highlight saffron but is blah; suggestions: add orange; add garlic!!; add black pepper or red pepper flakes; brown the scallops instead of just throwing in Friend ordered gnocchi/duck confit, but had to send back as so overwhelmingly salty; got mahi-mahi instead, perfectly cooked Chocolate bomb dessert (name?) was very good, highlight Double espresso good, seemed unusually tiny; decaf was too strong for friend but I liked it"

  • "Arugula is an amazing restaurant in Boulder. Yet it is off Pearl Street, so not so congested. It is owned by the same people who do La' Atelier in Boulder, an exquisite restaurant. We even took our four and six year old for an early dinner at 6:00 and they were so accommodating with a great kid's menu. We had short ribs, pork tenderloin, and the pasta bolognaise and have had other entrees on previous visits. All the entrees have been delicious and wonderfully paired. Salads were light and perfectly dressed. The service is impeccable, without being too stiff or formal. They are also very accommodating to gluten and dairy free diets, as they are listed in the menu. Highly recommended."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at Arugula on several occasions and have always enjoyed it. This time we invited an out-of-town friend to join us and we went early so as to give us enough time to attend a concert later that evening. My wife and I, as usual, started with the tomato bisque (the best in Boulder) and our friend had the kale salad. Our main courses consisted of schnitzel (the special), seafood stew and meatballs (polpette), and we shared a Sangiovese/Cab/Merlot blend wine that complemented the food very well. We finished with a shared lemon pudding cake. All of us enjoyed all of our entrees and would order them again. The service at Arugula is always excellent and was no different on this visit. We highly recommend Arugula."
