Arugula is elegant Italian dining with the warmth of home in a modern environment, infusing the best of Italian culinary tradition with our contemporary interpretations. We pride ourselves on using ingredients grown based on traditional practices, helping to remind us of our connection to the land and the seasons. We create balanced meals using meats that are naturally raised, in-season organic local produce, and fish and shellfish which is in accordance with Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch guidelines for sustainability. In addition to our regular menus, each evening we print a daily specials sheet of an additional 10 to 15 dishes. This is our playground and often these dishes focus on in-season produce and fresh seafood.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The waiters/waitresses were attentive and helpful but some of the food was less than desirable. The muscles, lobster, and Calamari left something to be desired. The sauce in the muscles and lobster was far too spicy. Maybe this is good for those people enjoy very spicy food but a note should be put on menu that this is spicy/hot. The calamari appetizer was far too salty to be enjoyable. No, this is not the norm I expect for this dish as I have had more moderately seasoned calamari in the past. The one really good dish I enjoyed sampling from my wife was the pork. Also, adding more effective shades so those customers hit by direct sunlight near sunset can actually read the menu. Lastly a tad higher air conditioning could also help."

  • "Unfortunately "Hot Spot" not in a good way. I hope that the restaurant of this caliber will get better air conditioner. It was uncomfortably hot and 3 other tables complained as well. As for the food , calamari was doughy, mushy, Thank god for the mussels they where tasty. Pork tenderloin was ok.I think the temperature of the room contributed to our just so so experience"

  • "We had been to Arugula before and so we came again with mild expectations of a good evening. First they both the drink order for one of us. Not a biggie, since these things happen. After a calamari appetizer that was pure heaven and pork rillettes appetizer that was "meh" the entrees came. Our wives salmon was overcooked, but that's how they like 'em so no problem there. But, my friend's lamb was so overcooked that one of the cuts was actually black. I ordered the pork tenderloin, so it too was way overcooked. Not a biggie, let's try again. On the return, the got my friend's lamb right, but mine was completely raw in the middle. Raw. I threw in the towel. It was either incompetence or cluelessness in the kitchen that night."

  • "Overall a friendly and nice place to eat. I had the shrimp with the orecchietta pasta. It was good but too salty. Overall the food was good."

  • "Our group of 4 sat outside under the shade of a grape arbor and sampled many of the Happy Hour menu options. We LOVED everything from the mixed nuts and olives to the small pasta plates and the grilled chicken and green salad. Happy Hour libations were also excellent! Thbis is our new favorite Happy Hour!"

  • "It was a great evening before my birthday with my Man. Food was wonderful had a wonderful Rose and some great dishes. My bf and I are vegan and the staff and chefs did a wonderful job accommodating us and the the food was excellent. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Have eaten here dozens of times. Over the past three months, it has been disappointing. Food not good. Service spotty. Prolonged delays between courses. Sad."

  • "I've been going to this restaurant since it opened. The food is a little bit sophisticated for my palate, but the ambiance is fantastic and the service is great. I always leave feeling like I've been pampered."

  • "Heard it was a great restaurant from the boyfriend and bought a groupon to surprise him. Waiter had excellent knowledge of both the groupon policy and the menu itself, and was outstanding in regards to handling a plethora of food allergies. Will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Always great! Food excellent, great wine and above average service."

  • "Decided to visit based on 4-course menu Groupon special. Started in bar for Happy Hour, enjoyed some good house wine and a spicy cocktail for partner. Moved to dining area for dinner. Food was really good, and service team was attentive. Very pleasant dining experience, and will be back with friends!"

  • "We read local article about Arugula and always looking to find new places the four of us decided to go that Sunday night. Overall three of the four of us felt food was "not memorable". Restaurant was about half full and service was slow but we were in no rush . Server was not very friendly which is unusual for boulder but since we are from LA we are used to that! The Flank steak -no flavor but heavily peppered- vegetables accompanying it were very good. Pork tenderloin also was too peppery. Prawns with pasta and fennel...nothing noteworthy. Gnocchi was outstanding. Nice decor with outdoor seating but since it's all about the FOOD and the SERVICE for us we will check Arugula OFF the list and not go back...."Been there ...Done That! ""

  • "This dinner was a belated celebration of birthdays and graduations, and Arugula didn't disappoint. Great food, and attentive service were in abundance."

  • "A consistently satisfying dining experience. Imaginative and diverse selections, all with great presentations. Upscale American cuisine with a Northern Italian influence. Service is always attentive, friendly and helpful when needed. Easily one of the better Boulder restaurants. Especially wonderful appetizers and salads--try the mushrooms."

  • "The food and wine was very good, but poor service. We waited inordinately for our order to be taken; we waited a long time for our food; we waited a long time for the check. If our server had come by the table more frequently, we may have been able to politely inquire about these things."

  • "We went to Arugula on Friday with some friends. We have been here before, and really enjoyed our meals. This time we had a Groupon. What a great deal this was! Each of the four of us could order what we wanted off of each section of the menu. We ended up getting some cheeses and antipasta to share to start. This was a very good idea, as there was lots of food, and we all wanted to try some of the cheese, nuts, and prosciutto. We had lovely cocktails and wine, which was reasonably priced, and the service was just attentive enough. By the time we were looking at the dessert menus, we were pretty full!"

  • "Arugula Ristorante is a real gem and one of the best restaurants in the Boulder area. The dining room is lovely, the service is attentive but never intrusive and the food...ahhhh...the food. Everything from the bread to the last crumb of dessert is superb. There is such attention to detail and all this in a lovely relaxed atmosphere."

  • "We finally tried Arugula and although the service was good and there were many available tables, we felt the menu prices were not justifiable for what we received, and will probably not return."

  • "We were at Arugula on Sunday evening. The restaurant was not full, yet our service was poor. We waited 20 minutes for a server to come to our table. After ordering some drinks, it was another 20 minutes until the server came to take our order. A person in our party mentioned to this server that it took a long time to come back for the order. Instead of saying, "Sorry for the delay," the server got defensive and said, "I looked over at the table and it didn't look like you were ready to order." The food took a long time to be delivered. Then, we had to wait almost 30 minutes for our check. The food was wonderful, but this service experience was so unpleasant that it will probably keep us from returning."

  • "We had four courses and very nice bottle of wine. The beet salad was very good. The braised pork cheeks were excellent. And the lemon and goat cheese cake was the perfect ending."

  • "The food at Arugula was excellent. There were 5 of us, and we all had different entrees. I had the house made gnocchi with duck confit, and it was outstanding! They were great with my kids too. Unfortunately it was understaffed and slow. Otherwise it was great!"

  • "We were hopeful to be able to find a new restaurant in the area that was a fantastic out-of-the-way spot. Arugula was out of the way (shopping center area), but everything else was pretty ho-hum from our experience. The food was good, but in no way worth the total price paid compared to other excellent Boulder options. The taste combinations were not typical, but not in a great way. I had scallops, which were fresh and tasted great, but they were oddly over a bed of heavy, orange, fall flavor-tasting risotto. The ambiance was fine, but nothing special. The service was slow and just ok overall. There was nothing bad about the experience, but also nothing great that would bring us back versus the many other great spots in the area. Sorry!"

  • "Arugula's food is fresh and sophisticated without being pretentious. The ambience is lovely and we have enjoyed many different wines here. Our only complaint is that the majority of servers we have had at Arugula know little to nothing about wine. Most restaurants of this calibre invest in training their staff to have at least a passing understanding of the wines they are serving."

  • "I have eaten lunch here many times, but, this was my first dinner experience at Arugula. The food was fresh and tasty. All the menu choices satisfied our group of 6, even the gluten free diners. There was a variety of delicious starters are entrees to choose from. We will be back."

  • "We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had the most amazing meal. The food from salads (beet carpaccio and shaved fennel salads were amazing), appetizers (the calamari steaks and hazel dell mushroom were both divine!), and main courses (he had duck confit gnocchi and I had seafood stew -both were awesome)...and my husband who NEVER has dessert had one and he said it was incredible! The server was wonderful and made perfect recommendations. Our meal was incredible and we'll be back!!! It's such an out of the way restaurant that if it were on Pearl street it would be constantly booked and crowded. I feel lucky to have it be where it is. A true find!!!"

  • "Average food, arrogant waiter. Have dined at this restaurant several times and always been pleased. We were very disappointed and will take our time before returning. I'm confident this experience was the exception, but diner be ware."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating a special occasion. Everything at Arugula--service, food, ambience--was extraordinary. To dine at a restaurant that was quiet (hard to find these days) and allowed us to have our private conversation made the evening even more special. "

  • "Arugula is (was?) one of my favorite restaurants, but I had lunch dining experience on Fri 5/9 that will make me hesitant next time. Without notice on your website, there was a limited menu and couldn't have the dish I planned. The server explained it was because of CU graduation. I ordered the crab cake appetizer. I am a smaller eater and it was described as coming with asparagus and a petite salad, which seemed sufficient. But the crab should have been described as petit and "salad" was only a garnish of non salad greens. All of that would have been fine if the price were $7-8, but for $13 I felt I had been cheated. Please, please don't change your menu without notice on your website. This happened to me during Denver restaurant week."

  • "Waitress did not interact with us at all. I do not think she spoke good English. Needed to ask for things during dining vesus have wait staff expecting our needs. I expect better service for such a high end dining experience. Food was good but not great. Very loud customers next to us. "

  • "My husband and I had dinner here and we were surprised to find the entrees heavy on carbs. I ordered a special: monkfish and scallop, which was primarily a stack of layered potatoes. There were two pieces of fish - knuckle-size - and one scallop. The flavors were nice, not exciting. It didn't seem worth the price. Also, there were a few sprigs of pea shoots - otherwise, no greens or other veggies. My husband had cod and pork belly and had a similar problem: a block of especially fatty pork belly, and cod mixed into mashed potatoes. He did get greens, though. A strange meal for Boulder. On the plus side, the menu specifies gluten-free and dairy-free options - always commendable."

  • "Was offered a table right near the door. Typical when two women go to dine together, they get offered the worst table. It was good that when we asked for another table we were given it. I happens so frequently in restaurants that is so apparent. I wish this would end for all restaurants. The service was good and the food was too. Thank you."

  • "We chose this restaurant based on the reviews and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing. The gnocchi is made fresh daily and the flavor in the dishes is something I haven't enjoyed in a long time. Go and enjoy and forget about te calories. "

  • "I may be jaded, just returned from a month in Italy, the food was good at Arugula, the service was efficient but impersonal. Very over priced for what it is. Also it is amazing how restaurants like this charge so much for a glass of wine and pour so little. Regardless of the price in Italy they know how to pour a generous glass of wine."
