Diner Reviews
  • "Every time we go to Arugula we come away saying "That was fantastic" the food is always an adventure in new and exciting tastes. My husband and I found ourselves sharing bits of food saying "you've got to taste this, or you've got to try that". From the grilled bread with tomato pesto, lobster bisque,Yum, and I had to try the grilled romaine salad, which left me room for only a small plate of scallops,(was that bacon jam on top?) delicious. We really feel this is the best food to be found anywhere and it's right in our own backyard. Lucky us!"

  • "The restaurant was extremely noisy. The menu was confusing. The food portions were small. The soup was warm at best. The salad had no taste and was extremely dry. The bread was an ala carte item that was hard and did not even include one piece for the 5 people in our party. The mussels were excellent and served hot. Our waitress was phenomenal. She was very knowledgeable and tried to explain the menu to us. She made some very good suggestions, she was pleasant and she was definitely the best part of my visit to your restaurant."

  • "Lovely restaurant with a modern decor. Interesting combination of flavors and ingredients. The hostesses and server, Olivia, were very friendly and accommodating. We asked to be seated in a corner because of a hearing difficulty, which we were, but there is still a lot of noise. If that bothers you, be sure to request a quieter area."

  • "This was our second time at Arugula - it has been a while since we'd been there, my wife liked it the first time while I thought it was just ok. The room and menu has been redone. It was difficult to have a conversation with the ambient noise level in the dining room. The menu, while offering some nice choices did not deliver on the flavor profile. I had the veal saltimbocca...it had absolutely no flavor at all. The grilled octopus salad had only a few scant pieces of octopus - it really was an arugula salad. We left disappointed - won't be back."

  • "Our hostess and waitress were terrific. Our meal was good. But if you're hungry, don't come to this restaurant. The portions are VERY VERY SMALL for the prices Arugula charges. Also the noise level is extremely loud and needs to be addressed."

  • "We have always enjoyed Arugula. Great service and food once again. This is our first visit with the new menu and we liked it very much. Always recommend this little gem and not one person was ever disappointed. Eat as much or as little as you care to and go back often and eat your way through the entire menu."

  • "We had a great dinner. The filet was cooked to perfection. Still can get lobster bisque even with new menu. Like the small plate choices."

  • "Four of us ordered different appetizers and entrees and everything was just delicious. We eat out fairly often and were surprised at the exceptional quality for such an out of the way place. At the end of the meal, we decided that this is where we would host our 55 person wedding rehearsal dinner in January."

  • "I took a girl on a date here. She was impressed with how fancy the restaurant was. On the outside it doesn't seem like much but you walk in the door and you see just how nice it is. The staff was friendly and sat me as soon as my date arrived. The food was great Italian cuisine. A lot of people get confused by the menu so it helps to review before hand."

  • "We were lucky to have the table in the center with the big chairs. Love those chairs! We were 3 couples, they other 2 couples had dined here previously. Start with the good: appetizers were very good. The calamari and the pork were delicious. Believe it or not the arugula salad was just ok which was a surprise. Everyone really enjoyed their entrees. I had the filet and I have to say the flavor was great, the potatoes were great but the meat itself I found to be on the tough side which was also a surprise. Back to the good, the desserts were really good. Also high favor with it being a BYOB. The noise level is very very loud. Very hard to keep a conversation at the table without yelling at each other."

  • "We had made a reservation at Arugula for our wedding anniversary and were incredible excited, as we had eaten here once before. We were seated for nearly 15 minutes before a server came to open our wine and pour us water. Though this was irritating, the rest of our experience was wonderful. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had shared a couple of appetizers (calamari and cheese steak egg rolls), the lobster bisque (the most delicious soup we have EVER eaten), and a few small plates (english pea and marscapone arancini, scallops and crispy pork belly, and short rib atop a seared polenta cake). Each bite was more incredible than the last. We are excitedly planning our return, as well as what we will be ordering!"

  • "Nice atmosphere with a great selection of gourmet dishes. The food itself was simply wonderful, and arranged beautifully. Prices are somewhat on the high side, but you forget the prices once you taste the food. The restaurant is quite noisy and, my only real complaint the after dinner coffee was a little too weak to suit my taste! All in all, Arugula was a terrific experience!"

  • "I recently dined at Arugula with my husband & our friends. Everything was delicious from the appetizers to the desserts. The menu was recently changed. The appetizers are smaller portions which is perfect for sharing. The entree dishes are also small too but a perfect portion & didn't feel too full. The service was excellent. I would definitely recommend Arugula! "

  • "We have been at Arugula many times in the past and totally enjoyed it. This time, our 44th Anniversary celebration, we were very disappointed. We did not like their new marketing. The small menu was an effort to find anything that we would like. Don't like the small plate option. Don't like that you have to buy your bread, 4 pieces of grilled seasoned bread. Our take is if it was working before, don't change it. Go back to the Arugula we knew before with many selections."

  • "My wife and I went for out anniversary and couldn't have been happier with our choice. I got the filet mignon and my wife got the squid ink Fettuccine. We also got the bread (I read in a review that it wasn't worth it, I'm glad I went for it) and the calamari for an appraiser. The sauces were fantastic, obviously made from scratch. The filet mignon literally looked like a work of art and everything was rich in flavor. Our server was a huge fan of the restaurant, she knew everything on the menu and was very helpful. If I were to point out flaw, it would be that the size of the room caused a slight echo. This elevated the volume of others conversations, although this didn't bother me a bit. I can see it may others. I would definitely return!"

  • "The food and service were excellent. However, it is extremely noisy in there so much so that the waiter had to lean over to take our order. It is pricey, but the food was delicious; I didn't mind that because it was a special occasion. But paying $3-5 for a few pieces of "artesian bread". Come on, that's a bit much. I wouldn't go back because of the noise factor. If you go with another couple or two, you would literally have to shout to hear each other. AND, that's exactly what people were doing. If that's not an issue, then give it a try. But that's not my cup of tea so I wouldn't go back. Too many other fancy restaurants that have more atmosphere, great food, FREE bread, and you can actually hear each other. "

  • "Always loved the food and that has not changed; but, the new menu style created a poor experience for us. It now offers "small plates" encouraging you to try different things. I never mind paying more for great food but this felt like we were being nickle and dimed. They also now charge for the bread and try and make it look like an appetizer because you pick your dipping sauce. The service was also poor. The bus boy tried to pour tap water in our classes twice even though we purchased bottles of water. Lastly, the restaurant was redesigned a bit making the acoustics awful and the place very noisy. We could barely talk to the couple we went with. I'm sure we will go back for the food but not until the last experience is a faint memory. "

  • "Eaten there many times was always satisfied. Last time we went was very disappointed. Portion sizes are a quarter of what they used to be. Management wants you to order two or three plates for one person at triple the price! Will never be back."

  • "Our reservation was for 8:30pm. After we ordered, some tables were leaving, about 3-4 tables were in the dining room. Once our dinners came out, the waitress said "oh take your time", but all of the servers made us feel anything but that, cleaning glasses, cleaning under tables next to us, moving tables, setting up what looked like brunch, the lights were turned up bright. There was nothing relaxing about dinner at all. We were getting an obvious hint to hurry up & leave, I have somewhere to go!! I felt disgusted, that customers that like to eat later are treated this way. We are paying the same amount as another guest who has dinner at 7:00. They need to clean up & move tables after their guests are finished dinner. "

  • "When we arrived we weren't greeted for approximately 10 minutes. Then we had to wait to be seated even though half the room was empty. Everyone scruffied around us the entire time making it difficult to relax. Our waitress corked our wine and had to take it into he kitchen to decant it. We went up and served ourselves at the buffet and when we returned we had neither wine nor water on the table. We had to ask for water. The food was average at best for a brunch. There are much better choices in the area. I will not return there. "

  • "We had a lovely Mother's Day dinner. Our table was ready when we arrived, and the staff was friendly but not over-bearing. Our dinners were served in a timely fashion and were delicious. We dined at Arugula before, and will certainly return."

  • "After having dinner several times at Arugula, I was anxious to try Mother's Day brunch. The food was very good as always. However, there was a lack of help for the brunch. The only person who came to our table was the bus boy after I called him to our table for beverages. The brunch was buffet style so it wasn't a problem for the food. Our server never approached us until I requested the bus boy to bring us the check. The server at that time dropped off the check and said Happy Mother's Day. Imagine my surprise to find out that the coffee was not part of the cost and was $7.00 a cup!"

  • "But definately some rough edges... Could easily get to 4 stars. Great design / colors, but hard surfaces make it cold and loud. Service was slow at 5 pm on a Sat... Perhaps they were short staffed in the kitchen? Fish and pasta dishes were excellent. All of our salads and main courses were very good. Cheese antipasto had the equivalent of Wispride port wine cheese spread? Really? The Grana Padana was hard as a rock...but the hot Sopressata was terrific! A little more training and supervision in the front of the house could go a long way to make this place great!"

  • "I have been to Arugula about 20 times and enjoyed introducing others to the spot. Friday night was hopefully just a one time bad night. Appetizer:crab salad, literally one crab lump. Dinner- veal, no flavor was using the black pepper on the table to give it taste. Dessert-gelato with espresso and biscotti, this was a complete liquid when I got it with mushy biscotti clumps. Please use a iced espresso next time, it was just gross to see. Table next to us also disappointed with their meal. Hope it was just a bad night and not a sign of the future. "

  • "menu is ok, service is ok, but the food is always amazing. It is difficult to find good italian food near washington township - 08080 <- that one :) I have tried almost every italian place near washington township and found this place to offer exciting flavors. it beats the stuffing out of that terrible italian place that had 2 locations, the other in pitman- dull and bland. These guys at arugula have a passion for their food and it shows. Again, highly recommend doing a tasting menu there."

  • "Overall, the night was fantastic. From booking the reservation, to being seated without the hassle of a wait time, to the entire server/customer experience. Our server, Antonio, was incredible. He was helpful but did not hover. He gave us plenty of time to talk & rather than constintanly ask us if we were ready, he paid attention to our body language & signs as to when we requires his services. He was a truly incredible server. On that note, the meals were exquisite but the portion sizes were much too small for the price. When I'm able to take half or quarter of the entree home with me, to eat for another day; the I'm a happy man/custumor who's guarenteed to return. "
