A word from Artu
Artu was founded on the most basic Italian technique, great ingredients, simply prepared, that is what Artu is all about.

In February of 1992 Artu opened its doors to the world, starting with outstanding sandwiches and mouth watering roasted meats, we continued to evolve and grow. Since then we have steadily added to our repertoire. From those sandwiches and roasted meats, we have produced old-world comfort food dishes to current interpretations of those classics that still make the most discerning eater reminisce of their childhood.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Solid food and authentic wait staff that was very accommodating especially to children and gluten -free diners."

  • "Let me first say that the service in this restaurant was outstanding. Attentive and not overbearing. And even the restaurant was packed, crazy busy touristy, they had our table ready when we arrived, even a little early. We would not have eaten without our Open Table Reservation. The negative part of our experience was that the food on the menu was not made as described. A Zucchini flower dish with Ricotta came as a very oily, mozarella filled pancake like dish. (Not ricotta). We had to send it back. This was replaced with a bruschetta, that was OK, but not really put together well. For our main dish, based on our diet the waiter was very accommodating in switching chicken for the sausage. That said , the dish itself was not really tasty"

  • "Great menu. Delicious homemade pasta. Service was so charming and warm. Perfect location in the heart of the North End. Would go back in a heart beat."

  • "Four adults, one 5 yr.old..where to go? Artu was an excellent choice! This is the kind of restaurant that's so easy to go to. The staff made everyone feel comfortable. Our server was attentive & helpful. The food & prices terrific. ARTU is a neighborhood gem!!"

  • "The service staff was very nice, and the place is pretty and more sophisticated than previously thought. However, food was just OK, nothing special or unique."

  • "The bread was stale, and the food quality wasn't impressive. Overall I wasn't so impressed. Though the staff did turn down the AC for me, which was very sweet, so I have nothing bad to say in terms of the service"

  • "We had a large group so we wanted an energetic and fun atmosphere. This restaurant was a great find. Food and service were wonderful. We would highly recommend Artu!"

  • "Recommended by a resident of the neighborhood when we were viisiting Boston. Loved the freshness of the food. Had an antipasti plate starter with grilled eggplant, Brussels sprouts. cauliflower, broccoli, and zucchini lighlty coated with olive oil and salt and pepper. So fresh . The stuffed manicotti with spinach was fantastic. The filling was puréed with just the right amount of cheeses to balance the spinach. Sauce was obviously home made. Also had Shrimp Scampi which was cooked perfectly. Service was excellent. Young man was genuinely interested in us and our visit to the city. Great bottle of wine suggested by our server perfectly matched the food. Would recommend highly"

  • "Great dinner at Artu. Good good, homemade Taglietelle was wonderful! A bit loud upstairs, but great for a large party; and we had 8."

  • "For similar cost, there are much better Italian restaurants in the North End, with much better ambiance. My husband and I ate there on a Friday evening. Not all of the tables were filled, yet the diners were practically screaming at each other. We did have a very delicious appetizer (shrimp), but the entrees were unremarkable. We each ordered a cocktail. One of the cocktails had almost no liquor in it. I chose this restaurant based on the OpenTable ratings, which I can usually count on. So, I thought to add a review in an effort to keep the ratings a bit more honest. I would not go to this restaurant again."

  • "I love the food here. It's not your typical Italian restaurant. The menu is more authentic than most. Everything from the food to the service is consistent and worth going back for. Love it!"

  • "Good food, had classic chicken parm which was delicious. Service a little slow but busy night with all the graduations"

  • "I have dinner in the North End about twice a month and this restaurant is by far my least favorite. We choose Artu because it was one of the only places that was taking reservations last minute last Saturday night. Like got the risotto (the only vegetarian entree) and it was tasteless. I could have gotten the same tasting meal from the frozen section at the grocery store. My boyfriend got the rib eye which was also tasteless, he had to drench it in A1. I would recomend their caprese appitizer. The mozzarella was mouth-wateringly delicious. Small portion compare to other NE restaurants but still very good. "

  • "I was looking for an enjoyable Mother's Day Lunch with my family and I found it. There service was attentive - prompt yet never intrusive. We always had everything we needed. The food was perfection! Five people, five different meals - all were spectacular."

  • "We went to ARTU to celebrate a graduation. We were lucky that due to needing a place to go mid afternoon we were able to secure a last minute reservation between the lunch and dinner crowd. We also had the option of ordering off the lunch menu ( 3 of us did ) and/or the dinner menu ( 2 of us ordered off the dinner menu). The service was perfect. The food was delicious, however the portions were small on the dinner menu orders. The best part were the homemade sangria ($14 glass), although pricey it was a large glass and you could choose red or white. Our party choose both and we loved them both!!"

  • "Nothing special for the North End, as evidenced by the lack of patrons. I had expected the restaurant to be packed, like most other NE restaurants; but this was not the case. Food and service was OK. Décor/ambiance was fair. I'm glad we tried it, but there are much better places in the North End for Italian."

  • "The waiter was very good and helpful. We asked his opinion when we were trying to decide between two appetizers and then when I was trying to decide on a pasta dish. I am a vegetarian so thought I really only had two choices, but he then recommended a pasta that I could get without anchovy and that is what I went with and it was delicious. "

  • "Having lived in the N End for several years, my fiance and I had frequented Artu. Unfortunately it seems like things have changed at my longtime favorite. We don't plan on returning for a sit-down meal - we'll stick with the bar (where we typically get great service) and maybe just a few appetizers (love the bruscetta and salumi & formaggi). Unfortunately, our server was very unprofessional, rude, inexperienced, and truly ruined what was a special day, my bridal shower. He was very disrepectful when I sent back a turned glass of wine (Garnacha which tasted like pure vinegar but per his report tasted fine). Lastly, the shrimp scampi was bland, lacking garlic or lemon in the dish. I hope that Artu will take this as constructive feedback."

  • "I had high expectations since this place was highly recommended. From the minutes I walked in I knew it was going to be bad. The staff acted so busy even though there was only 5 other customers. We were seated at then ignored for 15 minutes. When I waitresses finally came to see us, only after my husband complained, she brought us bread and water and left again. She kept walking by and literally ignoring our table. She went to every other table she had but actually made a point of ignoring us. We complained again and she finally came by. She didn't know the menu, and they ran out of basic Italian items like spaghetti and lasagna. She brought the wrong order. We said enough and left. Don't eat there. "

  • "When we arrived, everything was ready, no waiting around and took us right to the table. This was great because we had 3 little kids with us. The server was very accommodating and understanding with the children. we were able to have a beautiful meal that was enjoyable with 3 little kids, the staff and server made us feel right at home. The food is top notch and this place is right around the corner from Mike's Pastry, which was awesome. Bring color books or something to entertain children as the only setback is they did not provide crayons or books."

  • "Overall the food was enjoyed by our party. Although the flavor of my seafood dish was delicious, all the fish was overcooked. We felt a bit rushed even though it was not a packed night."

  • "I went with a friend on a busy night in the city. They forgot about is in the corner, but the food was still tops. There were loud groups on either side of us. It was hard to have a convo. Not a sweet little romantic dpot, but still a good time."

  • "It is a little off the "main drag" so to speak, so it does not get the traffic of other restaurants. It was very good nonetheless."

  • "Always rewarding. Food is outstanding and waitstaff are wonderful. Just go you wont be disappointed."

  • "The North End has many great restaurants and Artu fits right in with them. The food was very good. We wanted a side of garlic oil pasta to go with our entrees and that was no problem. We started with the burrata appetizer and it was incredible. All in all it was a lovely dinner."

  • "The staff was friendly, the locale great, and the aromas appetizing. Our party of 4 good friends started the evening excited for our North End dining experience. The restaurant was crowded - seemed / full for our midweek reservation - but we did not have a long wait to be seated. From then on, though, the service was very, very slow. Staff was pleasant, but the wait between menu delivery and drink orders was very long, then drink to appetizers, equally long. Midway through the meal, we'd ordered a second bottle of wine (and had to flag the wait staff for that!) and then it was never delivered. We were never asked if we wanted dessert. The food was good but not great, and it was reasonably priced. An ok experience, but nohing special."

  • "I had been here before and had their pizza, which was amazing. Came back for dinner excited to have pizza again and they don't serve pizza at dinner! The food was not good. Very bland. My fish came out raw and I had to send it back. Will not be returning here."

  • "Artu was an oustanding night out with friends! We were all axnious when we got therre due to traffic in Boston, but as soon as our waiter came over, he gave a warm wlecome and chuckle to lighten the mood. Drinks were made to perfection. Shared Calamari was the best I have had; light and not chewey. We all ate everything on our plates. We will be back."

  • "We went to Artu for a business dinner. We were skeptical at first, because it was very quiet without many customers. However, the server was excellent. She made us feel right at home and provided excellent service! The place got busier too. Excellent dinner!"

  • "We had my daughters 17th birthday family dinner here. Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. They ordered a birthday cake from Modern Pastry for us and did a great job cutting and serving the cake. The place was packed but we felt like we were the only ones there!"

  • "The staff at Artu was spot on, from the hostess, bartenders and wait staff. We had a group of 8 and the waitress was attentive to each of us. She would check back at the table from time to time to see that our needs were being met. We were able to sit have good conversation and enjoy our meals without being rushed. In regards to the food, the appetizers were plentiful but some thought the dinner portions on some of the meals were small. But overall the experience was great."

  • "Went here before a celtics game...it was early but should have taken the fact that the place was empty as a sign to go elsewhere. Waiter was awkward and didn't take our drink order for 10 minutes. I got the special; it was supposed to come with scallops, shrimp and lobster...only came with 3 scallops, and the pasta was stuck together. Bread was terrible. When we came in the waiter asked if we had been there before (we said no), because apparently they recently completely changed the menu. They should go back to the old menu ASAP, because none of the meals that people raved about on yelp or open table are on it anymore. Ended up being over $100 for two sub-par meals and 3 drinks. Spent less at other better NE locations (Fiores, Antico Forno)"

  • "I celebrated my birthday there. I made reservations but we received a medicre table. It was placed in the middle of 2 big groups. We were a small party of 2. I thought they could have sat us someplace cozier. The wine list was great. I liked my dinner but my boyfriend wasn't thrilled with his. There's better places to eat in the North End."

  • "Artu came recommended by another restauranteur from the North End. We had a party of six, half gluten-free. We ended up being a half-hour late for a 6:30 reservation on a Friday night. They were very understanding and accommodating. We had a very responsible waiter who was very attentive to the gluten restrictions. We all had a great time, and would return anytime."

  • "My girlfriend and I had an awesome dining experience at Artu and plan to come back. Artu had everything that we had hoped- good food, good service, a comfortable atmosphere that was both private but not too romantic. I love that they change their menu pending on the season, keeps you wanting to come back and try the newest versions. Overall, recommend Artu!"

  • "service was OUTSTANDING. The waitress was among the most attentive and through I have ever experienced. The hostess was acomodating and welcoming. The food received mixed reviews. The PEI muscles seemed to lack flavor but then perked up as the sauce had distributed to the bottom of the dish. The Chicken donanto was dry. The veal and lamb dishes received high marks."
