A word from Artu
Artu was founded on the most basic Italian technique, great ingredients, simply prepared, that is what Artu is all about.

In February of 1992 Artu opened its doors to the world, starting with outstanding sandwiches and mouth watering roasted meats, we continued to evolve and grow. Since then we have steadily added to our repertoire. From those sandwiches and roasted meats, we have produced old-world comfort food dishes to current interpretations of those classics that still make the most discerning eater reminisce of their childhood.Continued

  • "The North End has many great restaurants and Artu fits right in with them. The food was very good. We wanted a side of garlic oil pasta to go with our entrees and that was no problem. We started with the burrata appetizer and it was incredible. All in all it was a lovely dinner."

  • "The staff was friendly, the locale great, and the aromas appetizing. Our party of 4 good friends started the evening excited for our North End dining experience. The restaurant was crowded - seemed / full for our midweek reservation - but we did not have a long wait to be seated. From then on, though, the service was very, very slow. Staff was pleasant, but the wait between menu delivery and drink orders was very long, then drink to appetizers, equally long. Midway through the meal, we'd ordered a second bottle of wine (and had to flag the wait staff for that!) and then it was never delivered. We were never asked if we wanted dessert. The food was good but not great, and it was reasonably priced. An ok experience, but nohing special."

Artu had everything that we had hoped- good food, good service, a comfortable atmosphere that was both private but not too romantic. I love that they change their menu pending on the season, keeps you wanting to come back and try the newest versions. Overall, recommend Artu!"

  • "I had been here before and had their pizza, which was amazing. Came back for dinner excited to have pizza again and they don't serve pizza at dinner! The food was not good. Very bland. My fish came out raw and I had to send it back. Will not be returning here."

We were all axnious when we got therre due to traffic in Boston, but as soon as our waiter came over, he gave a warm wlecome and chuckle to lighten the mood. Drinks were made to perfection. Shared Calamari was the best I have had; light and not chewey. We all ate everything on our plates. We will be back."

  • "We went to Artu for a business dinner. We were skeptical at first, because it was very quiet without many customers. However, the server was excellent. She made us feel right at home and provided excellent service! The place got busier too. Excellent dinner!"

  • "Went here before a celtics game...it was early but should have taken the fact that the place was empty as a sign to go elsewhere. Waiter was awkward and didn't take our drink order for 10 minutes. I got the special; it was supposed to come with scallops, shrimp and lobster...only came with 3 scallops, and the pasta was stuck together. Bread was terrible. When we came in the waiter asked if we had been there before (we said no), because apparently they recently completely changed the menu. They should go back to the old menu ASAP, because none of the meals that people raved about on yelp or open table are on it anymore. Ended up being over $100 for two sub-par meals and 3 drinks. Spent less at other better NE locations (Fiores, Antico Forno)"

  • "We had my daughters 17th birthday family dinner here. Fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. They ordered a birthday cake from Modern Pastry for us and did a great job cutting and serving the cake. The place was packed but we felt like we were the only ones there!"

  • "The staff at Artu was spot on, from the hostess, bartenders and wait staff. We had a group of 8 and the waitress was attentive to each of us. She would check back at the table from time to time to see that our needs were being met. We were able to sit have good conversation and enjoy our meals without being rushed. In regards to the food, the appetizers were plentiful but some thought the dinner portions on some of the meals were small. But overall the experience was great."

  • "Artu came recommended by another restauranteur from the North End. We had a party of six, half gluten-free. We ended up being a half-hour late for a 6:30 reservation on a Friday night. They were very understanding and accommodating. We had a very responsible waiter who was very attentive to the gluten restrictions. We all had a great time, and would return anytime."

  • "I celebrated my birthday there. I made reservations but we received a medicre table. It was placed in the middle of 2 big groups. We were a small party of 2. I thought they could have sat us someplace cozier. The wine list was great. I liked my dinner but my boyfriend wasn't thrilled with his. There's better places to eat in the North End."

  • "service was OUTSTANDING. The waitress was among the most attentive and through I have ever experienced. The hostess was acomodating and welcoming. The food received mixed reviews. The PEI muscles seemed to lack flavor but then perked up as the sauce had distributed to the bottom of the dish. The Chicken donanto was dry. The veal and lamb dishes received high marks."

  • "We had to wait a bit for our table, but once we sat down, everything was wonderful! While we waited, we saw the bartender make several different types of martinis, so that's what we started with & they were great! There were 6 of us - we shared 4 flavorful and interesting apps. Including cheese & sausage platter, roasted vegatables, grilled octopus & bruschetta. Main courses were excellent - all 6 of us were happy with what we got. True standouts were veal osobucco & rigatoni with sausage & broccoli rabe. Shared "La Bomba" ice cream with chocolate desserts. Server Gia was friendly, knowledgeable & got all orders correct (even though she wrote nothing down). We would all go back to Artu in a heartbeat!"

  • "Since I am local to the area, I visit the N. End often and have the few restaurants that I can always count on for a good meal. I hadn't been to Artu since August 2013. My high school girlfriend was in from ME and we were looking forward to catching up over a great dinner at Artu. Well, we sat down, the menu was presented to us and both of us looked at each other and said, "Wow, there really isn't anything on this menu that I would select." Apparently, there is a new Executive Chef that was put in place in Sept. I would never go back."

  • "Made reservations on line which was convenient. The menu was limited. All choices from appetizers to entrées were on one page. The food was good. I took a recommendation from our waiter which was very good and my wife had the special which was also very good. One member of our party had manicotti which was not heated through and was just OK. All in all not a bad choice but will not go out of our way to go back."

  • "My wife and I have a goal of hitting every restaurant in the north end before we leave the area. Next on our list was Artu. We were not impressed. We sat at the bar for at least 5 minutes before anyone even spoke to us. Upon being seated, we sat for another 10 minutes before ANYONE stopped at the table - we didn't even get water service. To Artu's credit, they did address the poor service with a free appetizer. The meat and cheese plate was delicious…and also the highlight of the meal. My wife had the Vitello Carrozella. She said it "tasted like breakfast", but what I found odd was that it was served with nothing. No starch, no veggy. I had the Pollo Donato which was dry and tasted like it was a pre-made frozen entree."

  • "This was my first visit to Artu. What a great place. The staff is very courteous and professional. We had a reservation and got seated right away. Our server was helpful with a choice if wine. The food is very reasonably priced and large portions. We got dessert which was vanilla and chocolate gelato wrapped in dark chocolate. It was incredible. We couldn't stop eating it. Our server made sure everything was good after each item was served. We will definately be back."

  • "I lived in the North end for years and dined at Artu many times. With that said I can say something has changed at Artu and not for the good. Last time there the waiter messed up the drink order, they were out of standard items like fried calamari, and Pollo Arosto, and I have to say it wasn't busy at all. I'm concerned! maybe it was an off night. Hopefully they will take this review to heart and try harder. This long standing North End restaurant has been a longtime gem."

  • "VERY LOUD not the fault of the restaurant but loud non the less. Food was OK. Ordered rolled veal it came with nothing charged $6 to put it over pasta. Went here for an anniversary definitely the wrong place. Tables extremely close to one another. Not intimate."

  • "My husband and I and our two twenty- something daughters had a very nice dinner at Artu on a Thursday night. One of my daughters and I have Celiac disease and need a gluten free meal. We mentioned this to the waiter apron sitting down and he assured us this was not a problem at all. That's all we needed to hear! Dinner was great. We tried the Bolognese sauce over the gluten free pasta and it was delicious. The anti-pasto was very good as well. Everyone had a delicious meal. Very pleasant surprise."

  • "I've been to both the Charles Street and North End locations of Artu, and you can't go wrong with either one. The menu is filled with familiar dishes, like pasta carbonara and eggplant, chicken or veal parmesan, but done in a tasty way, not in a "blah, everyday dish" way. Our group of four was promptly seated and had a great Italian red to compliment the food. The only complaint was that our food took awhile, but it was Friday and the restaurant was very busy. Other than that, I would definitely be back!"

  • "I don't get up to Boston enough, so when I do I want it to be special. The boyfriend and I walked in and heard our name called, and were taken to a corner table by the window, right on time and no waiting. It was perfect for a romantic dinner. Sal, our waiter, was excellent in every way. My shrimp appetizer was unusual, in a balsamic vinegar sauce with arugula. It is a bold thing to have on the menu; I loved it, but can imagine some would consider it overpowering, My Osso Bucco was very good, the sauce delicious and the meat tender. The side of roasted asparagus was great. The Misto salad was fresh and crispy, just the way it should be. The restaurant had a comfortable feel, but upscale."
