Diner Reviews
  • "Have been coming here for 10 years or so. Always enjoyable! Unique menus, not too huge in the helpings, wide range of choices, all delectable. Lovely, festive atmosphere, fine service. "

  • "I had dinner with a friend last Saturday before a play at the Hobby Center. I ordered an organic salad and snapper with crab, and my friend had an off-the-menu vegetarian plate. The food was fine, and service was pleasant. But the restaurant interior looks dingy and dated, especially the carpet. There was this bad smell either from kitchen or bathroom the whole time during our dinner. No, I would not go back again. Your money is better spent at a number of other fine dinning places in Houston."

  • "We ordered the Talapia and it was too salty, as was the soup that came with it."

  • "Artista is tough to get into on the night of a Broadway show at the Hobby Center but is Well worth the drive into town without any other destination in mind. The restaurant is less busy, just as romantic, and the dining is fantastic on a night without the Theater. It is well worth the drive in for dinner alone. Oh, it is still the best dining option for the night of the play but plan to book months in advance."

  • "I had been to artista once before for dinner and was not impressed. However, the convenience before going to the theater made it worth another try. Lunch was delicious!! Best ceviche I've ever had!! Bring $$$$ though."

  • "I always utilize Artista for bringing clients to lunch as it is a good downtown location. The selections are such that it fits every persons need. The create a salad is the best! The service staff is always right on. And........the timing is great as well, no need to have long waits for a good lunch."

  • "We visited Artista for nibbles and cocktails after attending at matinee at the Hobby Center and although we arrived quite early for our reservation we were seated promptly. Our waitstaff was simply SUPERB! The restaurant is very chic with gorgeous decor and the food was very carefully prepared and beautifully presented. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "My husband really likes to get places early, and that includes plays at the Hobby Center. So, in order to make him happy and make me happy as well, we like to dine at Artista at least a few times a year when we are seeing plays. We have always enjoyed the food and they are great at making the menu fit for adults as well as kids."

  • "If you're going to the theatre downtown this is a great place to eat. They get you in and out quickly and the food was great!"

  • "First time there following a matinee of The Wizard of OZ. Early for our reservation but seated immediately. Very attententive but unobstrusive wait staff. Great assistance in helping us make good selections. No rpoblem for plate sharing and accomodating special requests. Food was wonderful - top of the line Cordura fare. We have to go more frequently the the Hobby Center!"

  • "The menu is not vegetarian friendly but the staff are very accomodating. My entree consisted of four of the best vegetable side dishes. I enjoyed a familiar white wine with my entree. I selected the Creme Brulee for dessert and it was excellent. I ordered a Drambuie to accompany dessert. The restaurant was crowded but my husband and I were able to carry on normal conversation. Our server was very busy but acceptably attentive."

  • "The food was good, but the waiter was rushed and unfriendly. We ordered decaf coffee and desert for intermission which was a fun experience, but they served regular coffee which kept us up late that night."

  • "This was the first and last time I will dine here. I like the look of place but I ordered the sea bass which was about $30.00 a plate and it came with some kind of noodles that looked and tasted like a birds nest. The piece of fish was small and the birds nest well if you ever thought what a bird nest taste like that was it. I will say they took it off my ticket but at $30.00 a plate or more you expect to get some food. I could have eaten right next door at the downtown aquarium and for that kind of money you get great food and the aquariums are great to dine next to."

  • "The service was superb. I don't know if I can pay those prices though for just a piece of steak with no side dish, not even a salad."

  • "Wine list is great. Food is superb. Desert was the cherry on top!"

  • "We have dined at Artista since it opened in the Hobby Center, and have lived through many menu/food changes. The last two years the food has been disappointing consistently - overcooked, undercooked, cold when should be hot, etc. And they rarely have the wine listed on their wine list. Seem to be coasting along with captive audience during theater season - what a shame!!"

  • "They did not hold our normal table as reqested #34."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Artista has great food and is perfect for enjoying a leisurely, but time-conscious meal before the theater performance begins. We have been numerous times and have never had any notable problems with food or service. The mascarpone mashed potatoes are to die for, and the steak they come with is delicious and perfectly-cooked as well."

  • "I have been here before a few times and always had a wonderful experience. However, my recent business lunch did not go so well. While the food was as excellent as ever, but the service was strange. The waitress was chastising the other servers in front of us, she had trouble getting our order straight when we were placing it, then when it still came out all wrong she blamed the kitchen. It's hard to believe the kitchen messed up that badly since there were only about 5 other tables of people there at the time. The manager recovered well and gave us free dessert etc., but I think the restaurant should train their wait staff better."

  • "This a convenient place to meet for the theater. Whether it's just for drinks and applizers or meal."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "We were thrilled to find an open table here before the theatre. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we were tempted to linger and miss the opening curtain. The manager came to the table, the wait staff were solicitous about our timing and my food allergies, and the food should have been mentioned much earlier in this review - excellent and well-presented."

  • "Great for a wonderful meal before theatre at Hobby Center, Good choices for all sorts of tastes and great wine selection. Meal was served at a good pace and you didn't feel rushed, I would recommend this to anyone going to theatre"

  • "I am never disappointed with the food or the service at this location. It is wonderful to take friends to dine knowing the evening will be flawless. When attending a play they always watch the clock and make certain we are served and on our way in plenty of time for the show. The waitstaff is attentive and personable. Thanks for many great dinners!!"

  • "The only place to eat if you're going to the Hobby Center. Amazing food & service, and very conveniently located in the Hobby Center. The waitstaff is very aware of the show time and make sure you are finished in time for the show."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "Food and service was great. The Hobby Center did not have a show the night we went so the restaurant was VERY quiet. Almost too quiet. Only 4 other tables were occupied. We were looking for something romantic so it worked out for us."

  • "This was our Valentine/43rd Wedding Anniversary and this restaurant has a romantic ambiance and great views of the Houston skyline. Service was slow due to the crowd waiting to be seated. Unfortunately, the restaurant promised us that our garlic allergy could be handled in the kitchen. This was not the case and we were very disappointed."

  • "Artista and the Houstonian Big Band night for February was an unbelievable experience! We absolutely loved the food and music, and the service was great!"
    Dined on 2/28/2014
  • "This was my second time eating at Artista. It was very good. Just a little disappointed that their were no changes to the menu in the last 8 months. It was good because I got to try what I wanted to try last time, but when we go again it would be nice to see some new items. Everything was very good."

  • "Great staff serving great food; my wife even commented that she felt like Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman". Artista made us feel special."
    Dined on 2/23/2014
  • "We typically associate a wonderful dining experience with Artista and a Broadway Show - park early, avoid lines, great food and service - then a leisurely move into the venue for the production. We watch as others tangle themselves in long lines for parking, seating and "grabbing a quick bite" in the lobby and appreciate that while Artista is to us a special treat, it affords not just food and atmosphere but a total evening experience."

  • "This was a very unassuming title for a dessert but it was wonderful for those that enjoy a fluffy version of cheesecake versus the "dense" version. It was tasty and had very good flavor. Not you run of the mill "vanilla"."

  • "As usual, Artista is a great place to dine. The food is wonderful and the ambiance is just what the doctor ordered after a busy week."
