Artisans RestaurantExcelentThe food , wine list and are superb . The Owner/Chef is always attentive and friendly.
And the quality of the food is wonderful .6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat findThe best overal experienced this year. Dined for dinner and came back for lunch. outstanding6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWOW what a great placeFood is outstanding and so is the service: attentive and on the spot....not overbearing, but helpful when needed. Jaques Fox has created a gem of a restaurant. Pricey, but good6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed our mealOur waitress (Grace) was attentive without being overly intrusive. The young men who helped her were very nice as well. For the most part we really enjoyed our meal. Wine was excellent and a decent value. Only complaint with food was that the chicken was ever so slightly overcooked. Lobster and risotto were excellent as was escargot (appetizer). My wife enjoyed quail and duck as appetizer and cohia (fish). She enjoyed all of it. Waitress recommended a lemon basil cheesecake and this was a real highlight. No LImoncello on hand however6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMKitchen table & fantastic foodWe thoroughly enjoyed our meal and seeing what goes on in the kitchen. We'll be back for sure...6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place that I will come back toWent for business lunch. Nice food and good service as well as a very good ambiance.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is incredible - tasteThe food is incredible - taste wise - but watch out for the businessman's lunch special -- the portions on the entree are miniscule, we're talking tiny. I'm not one who wants huge portions but the meat and fish entrees were incredibly small. Also, our service was very slow -- repeatedly had to look for/ask for our waiter. The food is awesome tho and the ambiance is good as well.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent RestaurantThe food, service and atmosphere were excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant to others.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe loved every item of ourWe loved every item of our meal and enjoyed sitting at the bar that overlooks the immaculate kitchen. The waiter was terrific and it was a pleasure from beginning to end. The portions were appropriate, and each dish was unique and creative. Here are some highlights: the foie gras and scallop appetizers were divine. My husband loved the Chillean seabass main course, and the napolean for dessert was unique and melted in our mouths.
We will be back soon!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DateMy boyfriend and I went in with high expectations and they went above and beyond. Our server was fantastic and the owner was gracious.
As for the food, all I can say is that our taste-buds are craving Artisans right now. For appetizers we ordered seared scallops and the chef salad. For our entrees, the pistachio crusted sea bass and the lamb.
We were seated towards the entrance of the restaurant in a little booth table that had a romantic feel. However, in the middle of the restaurant is the kitchen and you can sit at the "chefs table" and see them cook. I would suggest reserving a spot there for the experience.
Overall we had a great time with great food. Most definitely coming back to eat at Artisans soon!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food/great atmosphere! The restaurant is hip and vibrant -- great concept -- sort of a theatre in the round where the diners can watch the food being prepared. The menu wasn't extensive, but each of the four of us had a different entree and each one was delicious. The noose level was such that you could carry on conversation and actually near each other. The wait staff was friendly and, for the most part, on top of their game. We will definitely go back and try to get seating around the kitchen area.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Pre-theatre DinnerWe celebrated my nephew's birthday here with lovely dinner prior to seeing a show downtown. The food was simply divine, from all of the appetizers to the array of entrees. Each of us ordered something different, and all raved about their dishes. for appetizers, I highly recommend the duck and the foie gras. As for the entrees, I thoroughly enjoyed my bouilabaisse, which was rustic and flavorful and tasted like the French countryside on a warm afternoon. However, the star of the evening was the pistachio-crusted Chilean sea bass - stellar! Executive Chef Fox checked on us, which we appreciated, and the entire staff was gracious and very concious of our show time. We will definitely return to this wonderful restaurant.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant surpriseThis was a fabulous experience!! I eat out often and this was the best meal that I've had in a while!!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulit was our first time to the restaurant and it was an amazing experience. The food was out of the world, our server was great. Everybody was so nice. We even got to talk to the pastry chef about one of her deserts. It was way better than we thought it would be.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA GemThis restaurant is outstanding. Everything from the ambience and decor to the delicious food was fabulous. The service was very good. I had the red snapper and the artisan salad. My husband had the delicious white bean soup and the sea bass. Both were amazing. We plan to return often5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA memorable eveningThree of us had dinner at Artisans, celebrating our daughter's birthday.
Once the chef found out about the reason for our dinner, it became a gastronomic wonder!
He prepared some off the menu dishes just for us, and everything was delicious.
He personally came out to visit with us. The service was excellent, and a very good time
was had by all! Thank you Artisans.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AManother fabulous evening at ArtisanEverything at Artisans is incredible - and John as our waiter was just the best. Thanks for another great evening at which I think is Houston's finest in all respects.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my very favorites! This was only my second visit to Artisans, but it is definitely at the top of my favorites list. With so many choices in Houston, this is definitely a place to come for good and contemporary French comfort food. Chef Jacques is usually present in the open kitchen and he is truly a wizard there. For a twist on an old favorite, try the short ribs over purple sweet potatoes and spicy Brussel sprouts. The fish dishes are also all excellent! The newest dessert, chocolate Napolean was amazing and light. If you hit them at the right time there will be French bistro music playing in the background.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMJacques and his staff at ArtisansJacques and his staff at Artisans always deliver fabulous french fare with grace and style. If you love Paris, you will love it here...wonderful food in a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere and great service.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat to experience French foodWe love this place and that is why it is a regular dining spot for us. Start off with the 5 course meal to fully experience what Artisan's has to offer. Make sure to sit at the bar. Foie Gras is a must.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLouisiana FrenchEasy to find restaurant. Had to use valet parking. Had to book in advance and seems to fill up rather quickly. A lot of seating at the bar - but has little elbow room and there are tables right behind you - seems more conducive to lunch, than dinner dinning. Lots of open tables in the main area, but we got seated in a private dinning room - that turned out more to suit us more. The menu read is very delicious sounding, and plates looked beautiful when served. The food was a bit salty and too greasy for my husband, meaning loads of butter. The fish was done to perfection - but my preference would have been a lot less butter and salt, to taste the fish and meal flavors.
Uur server was fantastic. Gracia was impeccable in all manners.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner! We did the five course meal and it was outstanding. The staff were very friendly and helpful.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful place and delicious,Beautiful place and delicious, real traditional French food.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the restaurant! WishLoved the restaurant! Wish they had a Sunday brunch.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal I have had all year-sadBest meal I have had all year-sad I waited to long to go!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMArtisans did not disappoint!Artisans did not disappoint! I would highly recommend it. The short ribs were the best I've had in Houston. The tenderloin was also fabulous! We will definitely go back soon and try some of the other delicious looking dishes that passed by our table on the way to other diners.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a girl's night that totallyHad a girl's night that totally exceeded all expectations! Chef Jacques was a wonderful host, checking in frequently and tending to all of our requests. Fois gras was spectacular, scallops divine. However, the real "stars" were the seabass and the bouillabaisse! We were nearly licking our plates. The desserts (we had 3), were all great. The standout was the polenta with orange and ice cream. What a knock-out!! We will be back.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI enjoyed my lunch again veryI enjoyed my lunch again very much. The service was less attentive this time but everything was delicious and I will be very happy to eat there again.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe business lunch portionsThe business lunch portions were perfect and each dish was excellent. A great value.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect service and food quality.Perfect service and food quality. The sea bass was the best ever!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnificent place, all menuMagnificent place, all menu items we tried were absolutely delicious! and very good size portions!
Chef Fox is a great host and I truly recommend his place 100%. I think I have found my favorite french restaurant :-)4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent AgainArtisans has become one of Houston's premier French restaurants. Excellent food, quality service and a very nice ambience. Wine list needs to be expanded to included more high quality boutique wines and get away from production wineries. My only complaint is the same one I have will almost ALL restaurants....PROVIDE RAW SUGAR CUBES (or ANY sugar cubes) for your EXPRESSO AND COFFEE!!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful neighborhood gem!!This is a real treat, a rare place to find, a genuinely wonderful, down home, great place to eat. The menu is distinct and the food wonderfully prepared. There are numerous items on the menu that can be ordered 'tapas style' and shared with one or two people and you end up with a wonderful, delightful meal. It can be a balanced healthful delight. The service is excellent, not too heavy and not to the point of ignoring you either.
I think this is a real gem of a place in Hoston. Closer to downtown hotels but in its also special nook!
I highly recommend it to business travelers, families looking fort a special evening out, or for a romantic dinner for two.
The cocktail anad wine list is also special and extensive.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFrench PerfectionAbout a year old but they have quickly ramped-up to deliver quality food and service all within a perfect showcase. The chef's table of 50 seats or so in a semi-circle around the kitchen is alone worthy of a visit. They tend to drive visitors toward pre-fixed multi course meals but that is ok especially if you are not well versed in French cuisine. Downside is that restaurant can quickly become pricey. I would return but would select for those very special occasions. And not a stuffy place...it is fun.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was not my first visitThis was not my first visit to Artisan. This time I took a family group for lunch on Good Friday. The place was empty, which I might otherwise have not been too happy about, but it worked very well for this occasion. We had great and very attentive (but not cloying) service, great food, and it was quiet enough for all of us to get caught up with one another. Previously when I've been there for lunch, it's been usually during the week for lunch, and the food and service have been very good, and there was more interesting people watching. Another thing I appreciated on my most recent visit was that there was no grumbling or attitude on the part of the staff due to the lack of patrons, the ambiance remained very welcoming.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful! We loved everything about Artisans Restaurant from the moment we walked inside. It is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service. We all ordered different entrees and thought each one was delicious. The ambience was peaceful and romantic. We would definitely return to this restaurant and recommend it to anyone looking for delicious food, excellent service and a lovely lunch or dinner.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, fabulous presentation,Great food, fabulous presentation, will go back when in Houston3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMfirst time visit pre-theatre,first time visit pre-theatre, sat at the bar which being open to the kitchen. awesome fish special, gourmet seriously. owner came by to check on our contentment, nice touch. would definately return.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, wonderfulWonderful food, wonderful attentive service and a very cool decor. Add this one to your MUST list.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI went to the restaurant withI went to the restaurant with my husband, daughter and son-in-law. We each ordered something different to eat and we were all pleased with our food. The appetizers were also very yummy! The presentation of the food was impressive and the wait staff was perfect. Everyone was polite and inviting. We also had dessert and coffee. It was a very nice dining experience, We will definitely return very soon!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative and top cuisine,Creative and top cuisine, high quality service and very friendly. Sit at the bar and watch the chefs preparing your meal. Will visit again!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was an awesome diningThis was an awesome dining experience. Wish we lived closer to Houston.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible food, great concept.Incredible food, great concept. Overall enjoyable experience.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA different kind of scenicA different kind of scenic view! Fantastic French food! Seating faces the truely open kitchen format so dinners can watch most food prep and all plating. Foodies/ home-chef's dream concept. Do not miss this spot3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual, Chef Jacques offeredAs usual, Chef Jacques offered a spectacular dinner!! This time, we started with the tomato soup, made with a beef broth (no cream). Excellent, especially the last drops when sopped up into a piece of just-from-the-oven bread! Entree was the incredible salmon, served over the most amazing risotto ever! The suggested wine, a Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, hit just the right notes.
Sitting at the chef's table is always an enjoyable experience. On either side, were people there for the first time (where have they been??), delighting in each course of the Tasting Menu. Great evening! Great meal!!3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great meal. ExtraordinaryAnother great meal. Extraordinary high quality. The boullaibaise (new dish) was a real stand out, as was the lamb tartare appetizer. Dessert was good, but still not in the same league as the rest of the food.2/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAlthough our food was excellentAlthough our food was excellent and plated at approximately the same time, it was disconcerting to see other dishes sit there at the warming table for over 5 minutes waiting for the other entrees to be completed so they could be served. For the price of the entree, I would expect the food to be at the maximum flavor.
The service continues to be very good. The atmosphere is welcoming for a fun or romantic evening, whatever one's pleasure. A truly wonderful restaurant.2/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous four gras! The canard/quail legs/ foie gras appetizer was great!1/29/2013 12:00:00 AM
