A word from Artisans at the Lake Placid Lodge
Artisans is an intimate, warm and cozy fire-lit restaurant that extends out to the Lodge’s wide covered porches in fine weather. The high windows and grand porches seem to seat the diner almost upon the lake. The dedicated culinary team offers a full menu based on farm to table cuisine. The cuisine is seasonally inspired and New American in tradition, but voyages wonderfully and mysteriously into the world beyond. The Lodge has an exceptional wine collection that ranges from the modest to the illustrious and a magnificent and romantic dine-in wine cellar for special occasions.

Artisans is open to the public, and seating is limited, so reservations are highly recommended. Dining room service begins each evening at 6pm. Children over the age of twelve are welcome at the Lake Placid Lodge.

Although Artisans is the signature restaurant at the Lake Placid Lodge, one of the classic resorts in the Adirondacks, it also serves a wonderful breakfast with same great view of the lake as at dinner for about 30% of the price. A must try is the french toast that is unlike any other we have ever had. The bread was fresh and very thick and the egg coating more than ample. But the coup de gras is the caramel sauce that is used instead of maple syrup. It is fresh made from real caramels and is melted on the toast. It was quite good except our version had been overcooked a little and tasted slightly burned. Service was impeccable, as one would expect in an upscale restaurant.

the food was incredible and service perfect. we were there for dinner mid-september so it was dark and too cold for the porch but the view in the daytime/summer evenings is great. truly gourmet food-- my husband swears his gnocchi with pork cheeks was the best dish he's ever had in his life. It's a little pricey but worth every penny--actually when you consider the four course prix fixe is $80 it's not that terrible. the wine list was remarkable and the sommelier was great. will definitely go back. bonus--we had a cocktail before dinner with the artist-in-residence--what an amazing person! i don't think I've ever been to a hotel/restaurant with an artist-in-residence let alone meet them!!

If you are going to the Lake Placid area and want a good meal (not inexpensive and No kids under 12), the only real option is the Artisans @ LPL. Can be described as classic modern American, well executed and with generally very competent wait-staff. The 4 course prix fix @ $80 is a bit expensive but portions are large and could be split, or go a-la-carte. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced, even by the glass. And the views during summertime are outstanding. Breakfast is not up to the same standard, unfortunately, for prep or service... not sure why??

Let me start by complementing our main server, Elizabeth. She was a warm and amazing professional. We will remember her years from now as much as the inn and view, which are both amazing. Unfortunately, this is a training ground for other servers. The youth who brought (and apparently plated) desert had brought us Root Beer ice cream to accompany Buttermilk panna cotta. When questioned he told us they had changed the menu two days earlier. (How one handles a mistake is more important than the mistake itself.) The combination of the arrogance of the desert server and the robotic host really had us in shock. We met better talent at lesser restaurants while on vacation. Shame on Artisans at this price point!

This restaurant is beautiful, right on the lake. The food is very good. However, the sommelier, with bottles that go as high as $1700 on his list was completely unfamiliar with what he was selling. Asking him questions also seemed to confuse him further.

If you're looking for a completely restful dining spot, this is it. The food was excellent - flavors married beautifully in each course. We chose the 4-course prix-fixe which was very good with legitimate, flavorful offerings for my vegetarian guest. The service gets 3 stars because we had about 7 different attendants which took away from the personal touch. Dining out on the porch overlooking Lake Placid (aptly named) was absolutely lovely, and the lodge itself is well-appointed in a hunting lodge style - like going back in time. For better or worse, under 12s are not encouraged so it is a very serene dining experience. The lodge is an experience worth seeking; leave your cell phone in the car for full appreciation.

We were there on the 15th of July. Had a table overlooking the lake, with a spectacular view of Whiteface mountain. We both took the four-course meal, and everything was delicious. Even the mixed greens as a starter were uber-fresh. The venison as a main was perfect. The duo of pork was tender and succulent. A very nice touch are the wool blankets on the chairs, for when the temperature dips a bit. Would definitely go back.

We spent a delightful evening at Artisan's. We had a "window" seat overlooking Lake Placid - watching the boats, the mountains, the clouds, etc. They have a four course $80 meal and it was delicious - good choices, well prepared and presented. There was a savory served before the meail; an amuse bouche and extra desserts. We had a nice glass of wine and wonderful service. We sat on the porch and there was a fire going and warm blankets on the chairs if needed. It was my husband's birthday and they brought our dessert with a candle which was nice. Elizabeth was the perfect server.

We chose this place as a special night out during a recent vacation to the wonderful but often touristy Lake Placid Area. We appreciated that they welcome guests over the age of 12. My wife ordered a delicious salmon entree and I ordered veal which was cooked to perfection. For dessert I ordered a panna cotta and my wife got a chocolate tart. Both of which were excellent. Our server was very attentive but not suffocatingly so. They were especially understanding as (in the winter at night) this can be a little difficult to find. It is a great restaurant for a quiet ambiance where you can stay, enjoy your food and linger with your company. Definitely recommend especially to couples looking for a nice romantic evening out.

We have eaten at numerous, high-quality establishments in Manhattan, I would judge this to be comparable. We loved the decor, the location was a walk from our cabin overlooking Lake Placid, which during the day is quite beautiful, and the food, along with the service was excellent. Although we are not oenophiles, we very much enjoyed the wines and drinks, and the selection is extensive. As a pleasant aside, children under 12 are not allowed.

First time having a once in a lifetime experience of a four course meal. Everything was wonderful including the staff and service. For future guests, definitely make room for the complementary dishes. The website underestimates how fancy and great the place really is. I wasn't excepting a four course meal from the website. The nice thing about the menu is that it's ever changing so you don't have the same meal twice.

The only thing this place has going for them is the view. Our waitress was friendly but quiet. She had no personality which made the little conversation we had to make with her awkward. We dined at Artisans on Valentines Day. There was a mediocre food selection at best. The food that we did choose was barely edible. The ambiance itself was stuffy. Unfriendly staff, dreary music and the most overpriced meal I've ever eaten. Would tell friends to stay far away from this place.

the food was excellent, with really interesting and delicious choices that you would expect to find at a fine dining restaurant in NYC. but most impressive was the service. i indicated i was pregant and that i would like a chocolate-y mocktail, and they overheard me saying i liked smores and went out of their way to make me a smores mocktail which was awesome (even including a homemade toasted marshmallow from the pastry chef). even though i didnt ask specifically, they also went through all the items in the dishes we ordered to make sure they were pregancy friendly

In a word, Artisans is "delightful". With its perch overlooking Lake Placid's southwest shore, one might think the draw is sublime sunsets. Not to be outdone (and, since the sun must set) ... attention easily pivots to the other star at Artisans - its food. It is seasonal and impeccable... visually gorgeous compositions. Libations are superb, hand-crafted cocktails and an extensive, accessible wine list. Our most recent and winter visit to Artisans was a party of 7, that I admit with both delight and slight embarrassment, was over-indulged by talented chef and skilled staff. In summer, dining outdoors on the wraparound veranda with a smaller party is even nicer and more intimate. Artisans ... wonderful.

This is a beautiful resort, and the restaurants are equally as stunning. I think the menu was a bit ambitious for the Chef in residence, and the food did not meet my standards for a gastronomic eatery. We ate in a lovely small annex room with a fireplace, and it was so hot in there it was hard to enjoy the meal at all. The management was very apologetic, and moved us into the pub room for complimentary dessert, but they really need to figure out climate control.

  • I ordered the evening speciality

I ordered the evening speciality - rack of lamb. It turned out to be especially bad. The waiter made a point of returning to ask how I wanted the lamb cooked having failed to ask when I ordered. Notwithstanding his apparent interest the lamb came well cooked although I had requested medium. It turned out not to matter as Instead of tender lamb I found myself with what chewed like day old mutton. I returned the meal to the kitchen and although the waiter enquired if I would like to order something else, no one other - not the chef, not a restaurant supervisor - came to the table to hear my complaint or try to resolve the cause of my unhappiness. This occurred at what is advertised as the best restaurant in Lake Placid. I will not return.

Great restaurant, great food, 1st class service, nice ambiance -- with prices to match. Outstanding location on the shores of Lake Placid, comfortable room, and doting (most of the time) attention. Classic building with authentic Adirondacks feel. While we had a wonderful meal and dining experience, we wish we had eaten in the adjoining, far more informal (and lively), pub. We would have eaten and imbibed more there, absent $18 appetizers.

Chef Nathan Rich creates delicious food, period. It is sophisticated but non- intimidating. I have been to artisans a few times before and it has been excellent in the past. This time the food was only mediocre. The desserts were especially not so good. The pastry chef is trying to be a little too fancy while neglecting good flavor. Disappointing for a relais and chateaux restaurant. I inquired if the chef was the same as the previous times I have been there and he was. I think he is slacking off a bit.

Artisans is an eclectic restaurant that's part of the Lake Placid Lodge in Lake Placid, NY. I had high expectations going in but was somewhat disappointed with the execution of my meal. I ordered the pheasant wrapped in prosciutto. It wasn't terrible per say, however, the side items (kale and potato purée) were room temperature. Add to that the servings were minuscule for the amount they were charging. Furthermore, we were seated 20 minutes late for 9:15 reservation. Artisans provides a great, cozy ambiance. The drinks and bar atmosphere were outstanding but the overall experience was a disappointment. Artisans has a tremendous amount of potential and they can start by being more customer friendly and by better executing their key dishes.

My husband and I were very disappointed with the service at Artisans considering the cost of the meal. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were told our table was not quite ready. When we were taken to our table, it was in a room that held 5 tables, two of which were occupied, so why did we have to wait when, clearly, 3 of the tables were empty. Instead of spreading out the diners amongst the tables, we were all put near each other which caused everyone to have to whisper. The service took FOREVER and all we had was an appetizer and an entree and the restaurant wasn't full. I was hoping that due to the wait my dinner was going to be outstanding. It was good but not great. Until we hear the service has improved, we will not be returning.

    Dined on 8/26/2013
Dinner (and dessert) was wonderful, the service impeccable and even though it was raining, wonderful to be able to sit outside and overlook the lake. The only setback was the amuse-bouche - the chef sent around lamb's heart on a little spoon. This was a little gross and the chef should probably be a little more "safe" and not so creative and understand that patrons do not want to send back a complimentary offering. Still, a wonderful experience.

A unique dining experience in the Adirondacks... small but varied menu, well prepared, and the kitchen is happy to take special needs into account, unlike many high-end kitchens that have prima donna chefs who force their creations on their guests, in a take-it-or-leave-it manner. The view in the evening of the lake and mountains is spectacular, the service was excellent. Figure on New York City prices if you are on any type of budget. No children allowed, nor would they probably enjoy the menu.

Superb views of Lake Placid from the meandering porch and dining room. Staff is a little inexperienced but earnest and eager. Excellent wine list. A not overlong, well-designed menu with emphasis on game and wildfowl and local vegetables and other ingredients. Hallways and dining room and bar decorated with high quality 19th c. Adirondack scenic paintings.
