  • "In the middle of nowhere sits Artisanal. The restaurant is associated with the Diamond Creek golf club. Beautiful setting inside and out. Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. Food was amazing. We sat outside and it got quite dark (candle wouldn't stay lit and was not enough light). Valet was a nice touch but hardly needed. Overall truly great find. Fries in duck fat? Oh yes. Will certainly be back."

  • "Another fantastic meal at Artisanal. We have dined here at least a dozen times. Their ability to consistently turn out a fabulous meal is remarkable. My biggest frustration with the restaurant is that you cannot book prime times through Open Table. Too often I must call the restaurant to book an 8 PM table, and then I have to leave a message and wait for a return call. A table is usually available at the desired hour I originally attempted to book on line!! It really is a waste of everyone's time!"

  • "Our business took us to Europe on numerous occasions. My wife and I , and companions have purposely sought out the top dining spots on ever occasion. After many visits to Artisanal, both with friends and family, we must without doubt report the Artisanal is our choice of all time. We find it miraculous that such a venue is within miles of our mountain home at Grandfather Golf and Country Club."

  • "This is THE restaurant in the High Country for foodies. Their menu has always been excellent and expensive, but worth it. This week we went and they have added some pasta dishes that are fabulous and very reasonable to the point that we will consider them more often. In the past this was a 2 times a year only on special occasion place. It is still very special, but the new menu will make us look here more often instead of Zuzdas, Sorentos and Jackalopes. Those other places are excellent, but Artisinal is SPECIAL...."

  • "Perfect night for dining outside on the terrace, cool but comfortable. Both enjoyed gimlet cocktails followed by great salads and NZ Sauvignon Blanc. Dinner for us was lamb loin possibly as good as I have ever enjoyed. Beautiful presentation and enough for a hearty appetite. Finished up with well thought out cheese and remainder of Talley Pinot Noir. We love the food and the atmosphere but for the first time ever our server was very indifferent. Still the best restaurant in the NC mountains !"

  • "We always enjoy the atmosphere, especially the porch by the water. The food selection is always interesting and delicious. The service is top-notch. Reservations are easy. We usually come for special occasions."

  • "Unlike many popular restaurants Artisanal meets, and exceeds, expectations. The setting is delightful, the dishes executed to very high standards, and the service is impeccable. Although not inexpensive Artisanal is an absolute value. It truly delivers. One note to first time visitors: they take the dress code seriously. Men in jeans will be seated on the patio, and even a well-pressed dress shirt and slacks will be a minority. Most male diners are actually wearing a jacket."

  • "You may need a map to find it but there is not a better restaurant within a 100 miles. Maybe more. Beautiful setting and architecture. Fabulous wine list. A five star menu with the freshest ingredients. Our halibut was perfectly prepared. Deconstructed key lime pie a touch of genius. We'll be back!!!"

  • "Our dinner for two was a special occasion and everyone made it extra special. The setting is beautiful, the ambience of the restaurant is perfect, our wait person was knowledgeable and went the extra mile with information and wine samples. We are looking forward to a return visit to try more of the delicious offerings."

  • "Artisinal is truly one of the best restaurants that we have ever had the privilege to enjoy. The atmosphere is wonderful whether inside or out - we love to dine in the lounge! But don't miss the porch... The food is fit for any "foodie"- the chef never disappoints! We have dined here 4 times already this season - and would probably be there even more often if we lived closer!"

  • "We arrived at Artisanal right on time, as did one other couple. The third couple in our party was a little late. The staff rushed us over to a table before the last couple arrived, then proceeded to pretty much ignore us. Once our party was complete, the staff was attentive. The food was good, not great. Many items were pricey. Our final tally was $200 per person, which I admit included several drinks, but no expensive bottles of wine. The valet service was very good."

  • "“There is no love sincerer than the love of food.” ― George Bernard Shaw It is my humble opinion as a self-described "foodie" that both the chef and his staff have a sincere love of the food that they carefully and artistically prepare. Most importantly, the food is absolutely delicious, with layers of flavor - I think that you just can't go wrong here. In addition, we have found that even the wait staff sincerely appreciate the food and create a wonderful dining experience. I have dined at Artisinal a few times now and each time, I have found the food and the service absolutely wonderful!"

  • "Delightfully presented fare (e.g.,meat cuts painstakingly prepared -- free of any fat or gristle), great variety of traditional and new tastes served in a setting of elegant, artful surroundings. Truly a five star place."

  • "This is the special occasion restaurant to enjoy in the High Country. The food is excellent. Delicious and artistically presented. The staff is extremely attentive and friendly. The only time I have ever had an Assistant Waiter take my doggie bag & claim check to the car valet so they would be waiting for me at the door upon leaving. The covered deck has a great stream and forest view. Not inexpensive but I felt I got good value. Treat yourself!"

  • "Have been here several times and never a disappointment. We ate on the terrace and service was perfect. Food was delicious. The calamari is amazing, everything we tried was great. Can't wait to go back next summer."

  • "We had a superb evening at Artisanal. We had an early dinner on the back porch while the evening sun was still reflecting off the leaves and the stream was active with spring water - the ambiance was exceptional. We had an appetizer of Kusshi raw oysters in the half shell that were outstanding, a perfectly prepared Halibut steak, seared golden and moist interior with a side of grilled asparagus, steamed Prince Edward Island mussels and a side of farro, a perfectly matched Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc from Malborough NZ, and a gelato and whipped cream on a puff pastry and fresh strawberries. Service was impeccable and we could not have had a more satisfying experience on my fifth visit -always the culinary highlight of my time in Banner Elk."

  • "My fiance and I went here during our mountain trip and found it very enjoyable. The food was reasonably priced and the service was great. I ordered the 28oz "cowboy steak" and my fiance ordered the lamb. Both were cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. We didn't feel rushed to eat nor did we feel like we had to wait for our food. Overall I would not hesitate to go back for another dinner. "

  • "Food was good overall as always, but everything else is different. Entire menu is a la carte and expensive. Staff is new and inexperienced...bar service slow. We had to wait for our table despite making reservations several weeks ago. Could not order appetizers immediately, because we were told the chef will only take the entire meal order at one time....gee I thought we were the customer? Artisinal no longer has that special edge."

  • "This was our first visit to Artisanal and we loved it. Beautiful setting, interior very well done. Attentive but not over-bearing wait staff, prompt service, very good selection of wine by the glass, well prepared and presented food. Priced fairly, good value."

  • "The large room with the horse made of vines made the first impression that you were in a restaurant that was special. All of the wait staff in blue starched shirts looked great. They were attentive and very friendly and made you feel very comfortable. When courses was presented they put both persons food or drink down at the same time. Our first courses - Tuna Tartar and Raw oysters. The Tuna Tartar was perfectly seasoned with crunchy morsels of toasted pop corn. The oysters were small and delicious and from the pacific northwest and the extra horseradish was fresh and hot which is very important to us. My husband had soft shell crab that was divine and my snapper was some of the best fish I have ever tasted. I recommend this restaurant. "

  • "My husband took me to this restaurant as a Christmas present. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside with a large open kitchen, mountain-rustic decor, overlooking a quaint pasture. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer; the calamari was the best we've ever had. I ordered the flat iron steak with kale and sweet potato puree, and it was simply amazing. The steak was cooked perfectly and the kale was delicious. My husband ordered the monkfish which was also very tasty. The service was impeccable; our waitress, Harriett, was friendly and attentive, and there were numerous food runners available for any other requests. Anyone looking for a special night in Banner Elk has to go here."

  • "This is a beautiful dining venue and service is impeccable. The food prices are somewhat high, but presentation and food quality are very notable, as is the table setting and amenities. I would recommend this as a wonderful dining place to celebrate a special occasion."
