Selecting only premium ingredients, Brennan’s commitment to the use of artisanal, sustainable and organic products is evident in the quality of each dish. Recalling a bustling Parisian bistro, Artisanal’s handsome Art Deco interior offers the sophisticated French specialties one might expect in Paris. As the name implies, Artisanal features a scrumptious selection of 250 hand-crafted cheeses from around the world. In the back of the dining room is the cheese cave, a temperature and humidity controlled room, where a number of the world’s finest artisanally-made cheeses are aged to optimum ripeness and peak flavor. The cheese course was a perfect dessert. The best part is that they left us alone. We were there with friends for 3 1/2 hours and had a great time. If I have any complaint at all, it is that there are very few wine bargains."

  • "We had the misfortune to eat at this restaurant July 14th- Bastille Day. The service was awful- the poor waitress we had was overwhelmed by too many tables and neglected us and our neighbors. When we asked to speak to the manager, Kathy came over and was almost polite and completely useless. The food was poor and poorly served- orders sent out wrong, meat overcooked. When the bill came and it was incorrect, we asked to speak to the manager again (after the wait staff had come over to apologize and suggest we speak to the new management). Kathy hid in the corner and ignored us. This is a bad midtown restaurant, period. In New York City, there are abundant opportunities to eat well... Dont waste your time here."

  • "I arrived at 6PM and the restaurant was unpleasantly warm despite only a few diners being present. Also, te restaurant had run out of sparkling water on a hot day! I ordered my prior favorite appetizer, grilled octopus, only to find the a smaller portion of octopus hidden under a mountain of potatoes. The charming brasserie ambiance was much diminished to loud, truly awful, background music. On the plus side, my steak was excellent and the service was helpful and attentive, I am not, however, inclined to return."

  • "I have never written a review like this one....but I really expect something better when a restaurant is this expensive. My husband's beef was dry. The risotto unexciting. My brother's fish was way too salty. They did not bring bread to the table, I had to ask. The cocktails were not very good and small for the $$$. Olives and a twist were not given with the Martini as requested. We had to call the waiter over and ask for them...then add them ourself. POOR. The beet salad had no flavor. Find another place with more bang for your buck. Blahhh. Never again."

  • "The food was of good quality and pleasant flavors. Had to ask for bread and butter. Drink pricing was outrageous, and the pours were not very generous. I enjoy the place better for lunch. We sat at the end of a bench near the front and the manager just opened the door to the street without even a "would you mind", the nioce atmosphere was suddenly erased by the noise of passing trucks on 32nd St. Maybe just an off night in the summer"

  • "Always great, however for the first time the food was not. Chicken under a brick-skin was not cooked right. Undercooked and fatty around the edges. The chicken meat was tasty. Our other entree-steak au poivre, was a lump of beef properly cooked but tasted more like a Madagascar sauce than au poivre that we usually get in a bistro. The pepper sauce caught your throat. Accompaniments were perfect. An outstanding has to be given to the dessert, chocolate tart with caramel ice cream."

  • "I was recommended to come to the restaurant for their great cheese and wine selection so we really kept to this closely. We entered the restaurant to a friendly hostess and were seated from our reservation. We had a waiter that took our drink order but didn't see him back for a long time and had to actually get up and tell the hostess and she actually mentioned she apologized and that they only had 2 servers for the entire restaurant tonight so they were under staffed but still the manager didn't do anything. It wasn't the servers fault, he really redeemed himself by helping and surprising us with an amazing cheese selection in our cheese plate we ordered which was delicious!! I would recommend adding in honey to it which I always do."

We skipped desert because we were so sweaty and felt gross. We will absolutely not return without being told the AC has been fixed and working. Food was very good but the atmosphere was terrible."

  • "We are 3 childhood friends meeting for a catch-up. Well-seated in the back as requested. Our waiter was a bit TOO attentive initially, but ultimately picked up our slow meal vibe! I had the pork belly hash and poached egg minus the chipotle sauce and it was perfectly seasoned and prepared. My friends were also happy with their choices of cold cauliflower soup, 1/2 grilled cheese sandwich and salad. Quiet reigned despite many tables being filled. One criticism: we split the bill three ways, and they list 3 possible tip choices, normally a helpful addition, BUT after I left I realized that the tip listed on each of our checks was for the total check! Leaving in a hurry, we missed the logic of the excessive tip suggestion. Careful!"

  • "One of my "go to" restaurants for many years, but this time several things indicated that it has seen better days, although the food (and the cheese!) remain great. Here's my experience this time: they had my reservation for the wrong time, claiming someone had moved the reservation time (p.s. I had not changed anything); it was an unusually warm and sticky day and the air conditioning was BARELY on (they have better AC in France these days!); the staff was harried and seemed like they were 2d or 3rd string (clearly have cut back on what is being spent on the waitstaff); the banquette was lumpy with a patched up cover. I hope the owners wake up before they destroy what good will they've managed to build over the years."

  • "I met friends from Toronto in NYC and took them to Artisanal for their first fondue. It was a hit despite a hair that made an appearance in the fondue (staff took the bowl away and returned with a new one). Waitstaff was attentive in a relaxed way, i.e. they didn't rush us which was nice. The restaurant was good busy with approx 2/3 of the table occupied and the noise level did not inhibit conversation. Artisanal has always been a be-back when I'm in the city. This was my third visit to it. "
