A word from Artisanal Fromagerie Bistro & Wine Bar
Artisanal Fromagerie, Bistro and Wine Bar showcases the formidable creativity and passion of Chef-Proprietor Terrance Brennan who adds playful twists to classic French bistro dishes. Selecting only premium ingredients, Brennan’s commitment to the use of artisanal, sustainable and organic products is evident in the quality of each dish. Recalling a bustling Parisian bistro, Artisanal’s handsome Art Deco interior offers the sophisticated French specialties one might expect in Paris. As the name implies, Artisanal features a scrumptious selection of 250 hand-crafted cheeses from around the world. In the back of the dining room is the cheese cave, a temperature and humidity controlled room, where a number of the world’s finest artisanally-made cheeses are aged to optimum ripeness and peak flavor. Adjacent to the dining room is the wine bar, which boosts 75 wines by the glass.Continued

  • "Although I have not been here in a while, Artisinal never disappoints. Everything was delicious and the server did his best to accommodate the finicky eaters in our party. I am sorry I am not in this neighborhood more often."

  • "We were greeted and seated quickly and pleasantly. Water came right away and a waiter came and introduced himself told us he would give us a few minutes and that bread would arrive soon. Ten minutes later a new waiter showed up, introduced himself and told us the specials. Ten minutes later he finally returned to take our order and disappeared. In about 45 minutes our meals arrived. Everything else (bread, water, drinks, etc.) we had to flag down someone to assist us. So, although the food we eventually got was quite good, some of it was cold and it took way too long to arrive."

  • "A great restaurant if you love cheese. We made a meal for four of appetizers, the artisanal fondue, a cheese plate and small dessert. Service was attentive and helpful. Really great meal. "

  • "An otherwise enjoyable lunch experience was marred by a service (or kitchen) fluke. My companion 's hot main course, having been delivered to our table a full 10 minutes before my entree, was cold by the time my steak tartare arrived. This, when delivered, was covered with bread slices despite the fact that I had specified that my order had to be gluten free. A restaurant of this quality (and cost) should not have snafus in such elementary etiquette and dietary requirements."

  • "Whether brunch or lunch all meals have been outstanding. Have the staff choose your cheese plate. They are always spot on. My husbands favorite dish - the hash. The staff always remembers that we enjoy eating in the cheese cave. Ask for this special seating."

  • "I have been here a number of times before , enjoyed it enough to return. I have never had so bad an experience as I did Sunday night . They ran out of baguettes and as we were there for wine and cheese pairings, it certainly detracted by not having the bread. Reservation for 8 pm Sunday evening and they started to put up chairs around us and 'clean' up before 9:30 pm. Dishes were grabbed from our table before we were finished and the entire experience is one which would leave me to recommend staying away at a similar time. My daughter was in from out of town and we were looking forward to this. Quite a disappointment"

  • "My husband's 65th birthday celebration took place here, just the two of us. He ordered the Friday special of Bouillabaisse which he said was fantastic. I had the Chicken under a Brick. It was the most tender chicken I think I have ever had. The flavors in that dish were never ending! Upon recommendation from a friend, we order the mac n cheese as a side dish. Wow, that was delicious. Who knew mac n cheese could be that tasty? We split an order of Crème Brulee. I wish we had ordered two of them! We highly recommend this for anyone who loves great food."

  • "A wonderful space to enjoy a Sunday brunch, especially if you are adventuresome. We tried 4 cheeses, fondue and a brie, mushroom and truffle sandwich. The service was great as well."

  • "The first bite of the skate fish with the blood orange sauce was like an explosion of taste and texture. WOW! Loved it and wanted to go back during my trip to NYC, but alas, no extra time. European portions are perfect for leisurely dining that allows us to enjoy amazing food without being stuffed. I'd highly recommend this restaurant. Great service, very gracious especially since we were there a long time for a business meeting."

  • "Artisanal aims to please and always hits the mark. The wine and cheese selections are delicious and bountiful, the food prepared to perfection and the staff's service is 2nd to none. It's official, I am a regular!"

  • "Great fondue and delicious seafood tower with lots of fresh, tasty shell fish."

  • "Brunch at Artisinal was chosen partly because my friend wanted a good mac & cheese while she was in NYC. It did not disappoint. It was a classic but delicious style with four cheeses. I had pork belly hash and the flavours were great. Our waiter was a bit of a character, which was lovely, but also very professional. It is a big place and was reasonably quiet when we were there so atmosphere was mildly lacking, but still nice. Great for brunch."

  • "Another wonderful dining experience. Had dinner with long time friends whom we had not seen in a while. Requested the cheese cave and the restaurant was able to oblige. Outstanding service, outstanding food and we were never rushed!!!"

  • "I took a group of friends to Artisanal for brunch. It is a nice space where you do not feel like other diners are crowding you. The service was good, and the brunch / lunch selections were varied, so everyone found something they liked. The food was pretty good, especially the mushroom / melted cheese sandwich. Artisanal specializes in cheese, and I would like to go back to try their fondues. Great place!"

  • "Had te big grill cheese and soup, soup was amazing grill cheese was ok. 20 min after leaving myself and others who had the big grill cheese did a mad dash for the bathroom."

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants. If you love cheese this is the place for you. We always begin our meal with a cheese fondue and end with a cheese plate. The french onion soup is also fabulous. For the first time we came in on a Wednesday evening and ordered the Dover sole special, which was superb! I also ordered the trout almondine, an all time favorite. We particularly love bringing new people in because we know everyone will be happy with their meal. Upon tasting a dish in the restaurant someone would always involuntarily utter the words, "oh my God!". So now the restaurant has affectionately been referred to in this way. As for dessert, don't hesitate to order the chocolate fondue. "Oh my God!""

  • "Service was the only thing I can recommend ... $18 for a glass of South American wine is a bit much ... as was everything else on the menu The place near the bar was very noisy ... and banquette cushions were torn, worn out and badly needs replacement ... too shabby for the overpriced menu."

  • "Everything about Artisanal is consistently superb save for the first impression - the greeting. The complete lack of interest from the hostess this visit stands out as the only negative of the experience, and it is a shame as overall the place has such a warm and pleasant atmosphere. Our server was delightful and engaging, and the other wait staff were very attentive. I introduced a couple of friends to Artisanal this trip, and the three of us thoroughly enjoyed our bistro lunch; my fish with frites was absolutely delicious. And I will always recommend starting with the gougeres as I love them so. If we could have only bypassed the hostess, lunch would have been strictly brilliant."

  • "We have been coming to Artisinal for years and we have never been disappointed with our experience. If we are away too long, sometimes we forget how much we enjoy the place. The food is wonderful and yet one never gets a feeling of pretentiousness. My only problem is deciding whether or not to have some of their delicious cheese every time I come!"

  • "Pricey, but worth it. We have been twice for brunch, and will undoubtedly return. Don't go if you're on a diet!"
    Dined on 3/23/2014
  • "We had a very poor experience at Artisanal. Food is simple but overpriced. Service needs a big revamp. One waiter had poor knowledge of spirits available and another waiter poured white wine in my red wine glass."

  • "I'd been to Artisanal about a year ago and liked the food and the ambience. That time we had an amazingly capable waiter. This time - not so much. The food was very good. Everyone in our party of 4 was more than satisfied. However, no bread was served with the meal, which I thought odd for a French restaurant. None of us needs extra calories, but you don't get 5 stars without good crusty bread. I'm sure that if we had asked for it they would have brought some, but we shouldn't have to ask. We didn't have dessert either. The place needs to be refurbished a bit. The banquettes were torn and old-looking, the chair I was sitting on had torn caning. We had a reservation, so it seems that they could have put us in a better spot."

  • "Really enjoyed the restaurant. My wife had the Saturday special Lamb Shank, it was terrific. Had the cheese platter and it was great. Would definitely recommend and go back. Our server was terrific and very knowledgeable."

  • "A little disappointing. Was surprised to find they were out of a wine I requested -- a Cotes du Rhone. The first wine the waiter brought me in place of that was not good at all. The boullibaise was not as good as the last time I dined there. That was the reason I returned ,since I loved the boullibaise the first time. Perhaps a new chef??"

  • "We ordered some cheese (nice portiions), the beet and walnut salad and egg omeltte. Everything was presented and/or cooked to prefection. The service was a bit slow but overall we enjoyed the whole experience."

  • "This is an excellent Brasserie/Bistro. Food and service always terrific and the restaurant always seems to be humming with life. We had a bottle of chablis to accompany the soup dujour, chicken under the brick and mussels. for dessert we shared ice cream and sorbet. A great place and remains the best in the city. Lot of new competiton but Artisanal still stands out"

  • "I have spent a lot of time in France and when I want authentic food and atmosphere I go here. The cheese list is diverse and lovely. The escargot is amazing. I am picky and they always construct the meal I want."

  • "Artisanal remains a great bet for a unique dining experience in Manhattan. Lots of folks know about the great (an unusual) fondue options, but not everyone recognizes the other excellent menu selections that also fill the menu."

  • "Exactly what you expect from a NY Bistro. It was crowded not slammed energetic not overwhelming service was quick and attentive and not rushed. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy it was my first time here and I really enjoyed the experience"

  • "If you're headed to a Sunday matinée, Artisanal is a great midtown spot for brunch. Fine French bistro style food is served in a lovely Parisian atmosphere. The selection of cheeses is fantastic, and the entrées are extremely satisfying. I would recommend this restaurant to any foodie."
