There new locationThis was our first time at their new location. The food was oust standing as always but the new set up is like a big room with lots of people pushed together with no privacy.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAt the top in Paso RoblesFour of us shared four starters and two entrees. The food was is generally of very high quality. However, if you're thinking about the razor clams, you'll do better with the clam strips at HoJos. A wine list with a reasonable selection of California wines is offered at low, medium and medium high price points. Our server was attentive without being in our faces, but it took two requests to get water at the beginning of the meal (which is delivered by the bus staff).6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNo surprises here. Great food,No surprises here. Great food, new place decorated with class and the service is just as wonderful. Allot of thought went into this place. Go and enjoy it yourself.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ServiceGreat Food , Great Service! Fun Scene! Just want Paso Needs!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMUnbelievableThe food and service were outstanding. We are still talking about it over a week later. Great time!!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest of PasoArtisan is simply the best in Paso. Go for the mushroom toast, stay for the great mixed drinks. the staff is very friendly and even more knowledgable. The menu offers something for everyone and all the dishes we tried were excellent. We started with the mushroom toast and seafood chowder. the mushroom toast was simply the best dish we had in Paso. The chowder, a white based chowder, was well balanced, rich and hearty.
For entrees we selected hangar steak and rabbit paella. Artisans take on Paella is complex and delicious. Highly recommended.
The wine list highlights the best of the best local wines. The mixed drink list reinvigorates drinks from the '30s and 40's. Seating in the dining room is comfy, but seating at the bar is more fun!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMVery yummy and creativeI had no expectation before coming here but oh my god the food is amazing.
We had shrimp caesar salad, PB&J meatball and gnocci and pistachio cheese cake with cherry compote.
I really love how the shrimps are grilled perfectly in the salad and the meatballs were and veggies matched so nicely. It was on a bit salty side but still the flavor was really nice.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe live in Northern CA. AsWe live in Northern CA. As we head south we make a special effort to stop at Artisan.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding! What a treat. We are so glad we chose to eat here. The food was amazing....don't miss the bone marrow and the mushroom toast.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, with novel mixesGreat food, with novel mixes of very fresh ingredients. Reserve wine list has exceptional wines at fair prices.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMArtisanThe chef is a pure genius!!! The food is always life changing! I took my little sister to lunch who is sooo picky when it comes to gourmet food and her face lit up when she tried it! She LOVED it! Thank you artisan for keeping things fresh and exciting always!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMLocal sourced, World inspiredImagine the freshest straight from the farm ingredients, wild game and an incredibly talented artisan chef painting flavors across your palate. Now add crafted beers and boutique wines created with the same passion and that's your evening at Artisan. The name truly says everything about the restaurant.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the best in PasoThe food here is imaginative and superbly prepared. The server was not as helpful as we would have expected when one of our party asked what dishes could be prepared for a quasi-vegan, but that was the only negative.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Restaurant, Great areaWonderful food, service, wine, and unique location.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience!Artisan lives up to its renown reputation and more. Leaving our hotel for dinner a stranger inquired where we were dining. I told him and he replied oh no! You have to eat at Artisan! Our wine tour guide gave us the same recommendation. Artisan is recommended by anyone who's ever visited Paso and of course the locals. Our server was knowledgeable about the entire menu and very patient (one of our party has several food allergies and she competently determined which entrees could most safely be eaten). Our party of three ordered Caesar and mixed green salads--a great mix of flavors/dressing. Our entrees included boar, scallops and steak--all cooked/presented to perfection. Desserts divine! Artisan's GM is warm, pleasant & unassuming.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMloved the menu! And the taste did not disappoint! Some places get creative in their menu items, but fail to deliver well-crafted tastes, not Artisan, all was fabulous. Will go back to Paso just to eat there!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Great !Been there many times, always surprised in a good way.
Ambitious menu and they back it up on the plate.
IJ5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMUnusual diningWe made our reservation upon other reviews of the restaurant. Upon arrival we were impressed with look and overall feel of the place. Note: they are moving on June 1st
I ordered the meatballs with gnocchi as an appatizer which was delightful. Our entrees were the Wild Boar fillet with pork cheeks and the Rabbit paella, both of which were exotic, delicious and totally amazing!!.
Topped off with a Blueberry Crisp that made me wished I hadn't cleaned my dinner plate. Service was terrific and attentive without hovering.
We WILL be back!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently OutstandingArtisan remains one of the finest restaurants in Paso Robles. Casually elegant, great service, and excellent meals.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for a foodie!Excellent menu! Really rare food pairings that will help you test your limits! Super fun atmosphere and unique dessert. Only downside..no full bar.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoy dining here.Always enjoy dining here. Flat iron steak was perfectly cooked!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and food!Artisan seems to attract visitors and locals alike. They support local farmers and have a great menu highlighting in season items from sustainable sources. The wine list is extensive, and also has many local choices. Our server was knowledgeable about the wineries featured, and gave us many tips on good wine, food choices, and places we should visit while in Paso Robles. She was absolutely delightful, and even arranged our cab back to the hotel. Will definitely go back!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat spot in PasoMy husband and I were visiting from out of town and this spot was recommended. The food and service far exceeded our expectations the food was fresh, delicious and original. The servers were very knowledgeable about the wine list and the dessert was fabulous. I am NOT a dessert eater and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious and unique dessert. Highly recommend this restaurant.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat as usualHad another great dinner at Artisan. Can always count on them to do something unusual. While my wife had halibut (done very well, but no surprise they do fish very well), I had a tenderloin of wild boar with pig's cheek. Never had either before, but both were excellent - tender and juicy and tasted wonderful. Only concern is that they are moving to a location nearby that does not have as convenient parking as the current location.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMothers Day BrunchWe were visiting Paso Robles over Mothers Day weekend, and reserved a table for brunch. The prix fixe menu was very good (the regular menu was also an option), and the service was great. The food was very well prepared, with fresh flavors and excellent ingredients. Even though it was Mothers Day, the service was unhurried, friendly and professional. I am not at all surprised that Artisan is one of the top rated restaurants in the area, it was certainly worth a visit.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb DiningVisiting the Paso Robles wine country area, we hoped to find a restaurant to make Mothers Day a little special. Heard some good things about Artisan from a relative. My husband and I were not disappointed. I had the Rabbit Paella, which was delicious, but my husband hit the jackpot with his Abalone Tostada starter and Wild Boar, Pig Cheek over Fennel Risotto entree. He put in the top ten meals that he's ever had, and we've dined in many fine restaurants internationally. We both paired our meals with wine tastings. A nice touch was an descriptive sheet under the three choices. We hadn't been to this wine country in a number of years. It has exploded like so many California wine areas.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent in all respectsAs a bonus they are moving to a trendier area of Paso Robles as of the end of May 2013.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMtoo loudnoise level was excessive. energetic is one thing but this was too much5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMArtisan is such a great spot!I ate here for lunch earlier in April on the recommendation of our wine tour guide. It was amazing then, and just as awesome when we returned. The mushroom toast small plate was absolutely unbelievable. The dessert alone is worth stopping in for. The s'mores are unlike any you've ever eaten, guaranteed! The pistachio cheesecake with cherry topping was great as well. I'm not crazy about the wine selection, but we split a bottle of Shramsburg Blanc de Blancs and were very satisfied with it. I'd recommend this place to anyone stopping in Paso Robles. What a darling little town!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNEVER DISAPPOINTED!For a sure bet, even though we have many, many wonderful top-quality restaurants in the county, we are never disappointed when we choose Artisan for a special occasion! The staff is warm, knowledgeable, fast, and give great service. The appetizers are unique and delightful, the regular menu is diverse and delicious, and the specials are always wonderful. Our favorite place in North County!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur second visit to ArtisanOur second visit to Artisan was just as memorable as our first. Delicious flavors and textures greeted our palate.
At too often, the music got out of hand, both because of the volume and the choice of music. As I looked around the room, Black Sabbath didn't seem like it would have been the first choice of most of the patrons. To the credit of the manager, he did bring the overall level down when we asked.
We left well fed and content.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMVery interesting food prep! ExceptThe food was beautifully presented except for a salmon entree, which was ordered "cooked through>" It looked burnt on the top layer. My husband does not complain so it was not sent back. We had waited a long time for the entrees already. I was surprised that the chef would be willing to send out such an error. It was a very busy Sat. night although early (6pm). The other entree, scallops and shrimp was divine!. The sald was carefully made although the buttermilk dressing on the salad was bland.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Experience!Artisan is a wonderful restaurant that utilizes local ingredients and great local wine! Would recommend it to anyone living in or visiting the area as wonderful place to dine.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNoisy but NiceThe menu selections of this restaurant are outstanding. The creativity is exceptional in both the concept and flavoring. The wine choices are good (almost all are Paso Robles wines) and well matched with the food. Service was friendly and attentive. The only negative for this restaurant is the noise level. It is very high to the point of being unpleasant. However, the restaurant is moving to a new location on the town square (a couple of blocks from its present location) in a few months. No doubt the noise complaint will be addressed at the new location as it is a common complaint of many reviewers.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food and serviceWe had a fantastic meal. The server was very knowledgeable and directed us into some great selections. The lamb was so tasteful and the gravy divine. Great wines that paired well with the food.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDelight to the PalateThe food here is so good you just want to keep tasting more. The chiefs do wonders with wild (wild boar) and local (grass fed beef and rabbit) meats and vegetables. The accompaniments are added flavors and nuances to the entrees. I would recommend this restauarnt to all my foodie friends. Looking forward to your move this summer5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSalty entrees were a deal-breakerEverything was fabulous -- great starters, fantastic wine list, inventive cheese course, great service. But the entrees were too salty to eat. Bummer!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a great experience!Always a great experience! Perfect for lunch and dinner. Definitely one of Paso's best!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding place to eatSmall and absolutely wonderful neighborhood restaurant in Paso Robles. Had a lot of small plates between us instead of traditional 3 courses, so effectively made our own tasting menu with wines by the glass; great wine list especially for glasses as well as whole bottles. Fresh, creative food and amazing value for money. The potato ravioli with oxtail gravy, in particular...and the pistachio cheesecake...couple of omg moments right there. Staff very friendly, knowledgeable and all round great service. Can't fault it.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent but itFood was excellent but it took over 45 mins. to get it. Restaurant seemed to be understaffed. Our waitress was trying very hard to give good service but there were just too many tables for one person to serve.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner. Courses areGreat dinner. Courses are not huge, this is a plus. Make a reservation.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWho knew Paso Robles couldWho knew Paso Robles could be the home to such a special restaurant. The freshness of the food and the unique preparation and presentation made this a truly memorable meal. The service was top notch - I felt like I was in a European Bistro where we were allowed to enjoy each course without being pushed on to the next. Wish there were places like this in Los Angeles! I will be back on my next visit!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food & service!Charming restaurant with great food and great service. Very attentive and delicious meals. We were a party of 4 and each got something different on the menu for starters, entrees and desserts. Everyone raved about their respective dishes. We will be back the next time we are in Paso Robles!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I were pleasantlyMy husband and I were pleasantly surprised to have such an excellent meal at this unpretentious restaurant. The locally grown vegetables were so fresh, I realized that there is a difference between produce that we buy in stores and that which has just been picked. Our salmon with wild rice was the best dishes that we have had in a very long time.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMArtisan has consistently wellArtisan has consistently well done food, lots of layered flavors and interesting combinations. But the timing of the service seems to be their achilles heel. A first course will come out immediately, sometimes before a wine glass is even filled. And then there is a very long wait for the main course, easily 20 minutes. If you do not order a bottle of wine, you may or may not have a 2nd glass of wine in time to enjoy your steak. Always friendly, but simply not quick enough for the pacing of a great meal.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFour of us enjoyed ArtisanFour of us enjoyed Artisan on a Fri. evening. Our 8:00 reservations were honored
on time. It is a very busy place. Our wait person was very friendly and attentive.
While the menu is not extensive (a good thing in our opinion) we all found entrees
we enjoyed. All in all, a grand experience.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat selection of foods,Great selection of foods, prepared perfectly. Rockin cheesecake4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been here many times,We have been here many times, it's the hottest restaurant in Paso and is always crowded. One thing that I have noticed is that the appetizers are smaller than most places, for the price anyway, most places you can share, not here... They are pretty good nonetheless. Another thing worth mentioning is that more than one time I have said, this looks nice, tastes good, but isn't easy to eat, so maybe that's something the chef should consider? Other than that, it's very good! They have a varied menu of different meats that you don't usually see, (although my wife won't let me eat most of it), and fish dishes...4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth a detour......wish theWorth a detour......wish the Kobayashis had a restaurant in Los Anglees, too!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved the food, service andLoved the food, service and the wine was top notch! We went there without a reservation on another night and sat at the bar. The halibut cheek appetizer was the bomb!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
