Diner Reviews
  • "I visited Artisan Bistro for the first time for a birthday celebration of a good friend and I must say it was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. The customer service was great, the waiter was attentive and advised us perfectly on the wine and food, the birthday acknowledgement was over the top! And the bread pudding was to die for! We will definitely come here again and recommend it to all our friends."

  • "The other night we were in Lafayette for one night. A friend suggested Artisan for a superb French dinner. What a delicious experience we had. Kris as our server enhanced our evening with his personality, menu suggestions and timing. The scallops I enjoyed were fabulous as were my husband's octopus and lamb. Portions and presentation were exceptional for a fine dining restaurant. The sauces for our dishes were also special. C'est magnifique. Merci, Chef."

  • "The food at Artisan was incredible! I was amazed at how brilliantly they mixed together flavors and textures. However, we had a 7:15 reservation and weren't seated until about 7:30. Other than that I have absolutely no complaints about the food, ambiance, and service at Artisan."

  • "Very conducive to having a business meeting. Background noise brings up the energy of the restaurant but quiet enough to talk. The table spacing and arrangement make it private enough and the staff is excellent in observing when to come by and when to leave you alone. Its obvious they are professionals and not part time waiters. I had the three course dinner they offer every Wednesday and Sunday and it was exceptional and a fantastic deal not to be missed."

  • "Great food, very fresh tasting. Impeccable service. Handled gluten food allergy well. Nice selection of dinner items and music in the background. My husband's favorite place. Every other restaurant pales by comparison."

  • "Artisan Bistro is located in a former private house with a charming shaded patio (hidden from street view) in the front. The restaurant has several small rooms which feel cozy. All the courses were beautifully presented and were inventive in the combination of ingredients. My only reservation about Artisan is the cost. The delicious dinner for two which included 2 appetizers,2 mains, 1 side, 1 dessert and two glasses of wine was almost $150. We did not order the most expensive items on the menu. This is a "special occasion" restaurant."

  • "From the host to the waiter to the bus boy the attitude and service were very patron-oriented. They went out of their way to even adjust the umbrella to shade us more fully from a hot early evening sun. Our waiter gave very detailed assessments of the appetizers and his recommendation to have the gazpacho was absolutely correct. He also helped to steer us towards an absolutely delicious scallops entrée. He perfectly matched wines for our entrees based on preferences we gave him. A special note, while many restaurants these days insist on removing the plates as each diner finishes their meal at different times, the staff actually noticed that one of us was not finished, and backed away, leaving us more appropriately with plates for each."

  • "My wife and I went to Artisan for our anniversary. We had dined at Artisan 6 months earlier and thought it was great, this time it was fantastic, the food and presentation was creatively done and beautifully presented. I'd put this restaurant up against the top in San Francisco. The service was great, not too in your face, not too stiff and formal, very attentive and knowledgeable."

  • "The food here surpassed my expectations. The 3 courses we selected were equally delicious, beautifully presented, and the wine pairing perfect. The food and ambiance was very very good. Still one of the best overall dining experiences in the East Bay!"

  • "So this is what happens when great ingredients fall into expert hands. Smart service, great drinks, focused well executed menu. Best servers I have had in a long time, everyone was super friendly and the good came out quickly."

  • "This is a restaurant truly worth trying, regardless of where you live in the greater North Bay/Bay Area. I don't think I have every had better gazpacho even in Spain, and our entrees were really delicious. This is a kitchen that obsiously loves cooking and takes great pride in what comes out. Service was flawless, and our server, Joe, was friendly and very professional. One final word: the wine list is very well put together with a nice range of whites and reds for every taste, and our server had perfect recommendations. If you are in a spirits mood, then the full bar makes a very pleasing Vodka Gimlet and, amazingly enough, Picso Sours, the national cocktail of Peru."

  • "First time here for brunch; excellent beef and lobster salad with adequate portion size; sweet potato fries was as good as before but needed to ask for the special sauce this time; though corn soup was too sweet for my taste"

  • "Thank you Artisan Bistro for helping us celebrate John Griffin's Birthday. It worked out perfectly. Your desert choice for John made us all laugh. A memorable meal."

  • "The food was wonderful. I had the Prosciutto & Grilled Peaches which was divine and the Wild King Salmon was delicious. My companion had the Spanish Octopus and the lamb duo which he loved. His favorite was the Onasis Martini that the bartender poured him. It is very romantic and the wait staff was polite and attentive. The perfect ending was the most Bread Pudding. I can't wait to return."

  • "Perfect night-food was amazing. Service top notch. Ambience terrific. Our waiter was not intrusive but made great wine and food suggestions. Service of our meal was perfectly timed-not too long but enough time to make the evening special. We did not feel rushed at all. Best dining out experience I have had in years."

  • "5 star in every way! Every single bite was excellent, creative, modern sophisticated yet comfortable and inspiring. A treat for any foodie or serious lover of great cuisine. Can't wait to go back!! Worth a drive for anyone from San Francisco as well- (I live closer) and worth a stay. The staff is so welcoming and addresses your every whim. A jewel of a dining experience-similar in tastes and creativity as the any Michelin stared restaurant."

  • "If you love great food and service, this is your place. The server will assist you in your selection of wines for the meal you've chosen (if you wish). My wife and I have tried nearly everything on the menu, the octopus, salmon, or the Sous Vide Ribeye remain our favorites. The Bread Pudding make a great finish. We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant."

  • "A must visit for any lover of good food and absolutely worth the drive to Lafayette. Exquisite, creative, and delicious menu and impeccable, non-pretentious service. We elected for the three-course tasting and left more than satiated. With an extensive wine list, there's something for every palette. We look forward to coming back for many special, and not-so-special occasions!"

  • "It's really for people with knowledge of food, which doesn't include me but if you want to splurge, this place can't be beat. Try to make your reservations early enough so you can select your table (by the window or on a quiet corner. I had the Sous Vide New York Steak and I found it to be outstanding. My wife had the Nettle & Farro "Risotto" she loved it. I would recommend giving it a try at least once."

  • "Way to go! The farm to table concept is alive and well here at Artisan’s Kitchen. The staff was super friendly and very on top of the service for "friends and family"."

  • "For the second straight time the greeting we received was less than friendly, but then nearly everything else was wonderful. The side sunroom they have is poorly ventilated so summer heat can make these 4-5 tables challenging, as we found out. But the food was near perfection and the service was well coordinated between 3-4 individuals and very attentive while sincerely friendly. The place deserves one of the higher ratings in the East Bay."

  • "The patio is a lovely area for a lunch or brunch and easy to have a private conversation. Our waiter was extremely helpful and friendly. One of our party had a birthday and they had prepared a special menu with her name at the top. I personally enjoyed the French bistro-themed brunch offerings. Frites were authentically French. Wine list good with several offerings by the glass, but pricey."

  • "This was my first time having dinner there. All of the food and beverages we ordered were outstanding! To start, I tried the sangria. I was thrilled to find that the Artisan Sangria is the perfect blend of 3 wines, juice, and fruit (plus some other ingredients). My husband and I each ordered the corn bisque. The flavor of the soup was superb, with Brentwood corn being in season. My rack of lamb/leg of lamb dish was expertly prepared, and the bite I had of my husband's roasted salmon was out of this world. The squash blossom and goat cheese side dish and the bread pudding were also very delicious. We were well taken care of by the wait staff. Kudos to the chef for a wonderful menu!"

  • "Artisan won my admiration on every criteria I could conjure. The cuisine is beyond extraordinary, exquisitely designed and executed with an endless array of one-of-a-kind tastes and textures in beautifully designed presentations. The service, professional yet friendly, pairs well with the incomparable Flora and Fauna menus and the educated wine list. We could hear each other exclaiming over each glorious item in the quiet environment. Every aspect of the restaurant is carefully orchestrated. All the performers are top notch and in sync with the conductor. I have recommended Artisan to a friend who now is planning to celebrate her wedding anniversary at the restaurant this summer. Bravo!"

  • "Artisan lived up to its reputation as one of the finest restaurants in the Bay Area. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by dining at Artisan where we were greeted and immediately taken to our table which was spaced nicely and allowed for privacy but we were still able to take in the attractive interior of the restaurant in its entirety. The three course meal was delicious (best Salmon I've ever had) and my husband’s Rib Eye melted in our mouths! The Chocolate & Raspberry Tart for dessert…I wish I could go back now to have another. The staff attended to our every need and always with a smile. It was a great evening!"

  • "One of the best lunches in the area. Really fresh ingredients expertly prepared. In a hot day the cold Gazpacho soup is a must. A fantastic burger made with Wagyu Angus Beef. Also not to be missed is the Croque Madam prepared with freshly made Mornay sauce. Highly recommended."

  • "Artisan sets the bar in The East Bay for classic, refined dining. No detail is overlooked: Service is exceptional and personalized. The food is truly sublime. The Chef is a master craftsman and magician with flavors. "Must haves" are the warm Octopus and the Gazpacho. Notable entrees include Salmon and the steak. Really, there's not a mediocre dish to be had here. Very fairly priced three course prix fixe, or select what you will a la carte. My "go to" for special occasions or just to share a special meal with friends. I look forward to my next visit."
